Once dad and I got home, I went straight to bed. I didn't talk to Max at all during normal school. Kat and Damian kept to themselves, they knew something was wrong with me. My classes were done, at least at the Academy. I was successfully advanced in both being a witch, and a werewolf.
It did help on the werewolf part that she knew everything there was already. I had questioned why I was passing my classes so effortlessly. They told me that the classes were there to help us train, to control our powers, but it was mainly about intuition, and interpretation. Kat was a little jealous, I could tell. The more I knew, the powerful I became.
My power has been as strong as it could be. I had learned everything, I was fast pacing, it was like my mind couldn't get enough. It wasn't slowing down for me to take it in. It just soaked it up, knew it, and I was done. It also helped that I could speed read. It didn't take me long to complete a whole year's worth of school work within three weeks. It was crazy, I could never have done that before.
I was getting stronger, it was crazy how it wasn't happening for anyone else. It was like it knew what to do all on its own. My power with its own mind. Cassie's schedule was free now, she made her way to the school library once more. She went there going back to the prophecy. She could hear it calling out to her, stronger this time.
Cassie saw Rory across from her, was it trying to tell her something? She was almost certain that it was about Rory. She flipped open the book, reading the prophecy quietly to herself. Cassie noticed how Rory was watching her. He came over to her.
He cleared his throat, "I know it was you in the woods the other day."
Cassie not glancing up, still looking at the prophecy. A hollow feeling starting to take place. "Are you okay?" She asked, not denying it.
"I will be. Just don't tell anyone about it. He's not out much less with his parents."
Cassie shut the book, looking up at Rory, "Your secret's safe with me. There is something I need to talk to you about though."
Rory looked at her puzzled, she gestured for them to sit down at the table, taking the book with them. "I think there is a prophecy about you."
He raised his eyebrows, "What do you mean?"
Cassie opened up the book to him, "This was calling to me, and it just seemed some of the things happening are related to you."
Rory was clueless, "What do you mean?"
"Well, you're one of the only crossbreds I know here, and we're friends. I think it called to me, because it knew we would either be friends, or bring us together to figure it out."
"Cassie, that's crazy talk." He said starting to get up. I put my hand on his arm.
"Wait please, just hear me out more?" I asked, pleading with him.
Rory looked down at me, and then at the book. He shook his head, and took a seat again. "You better make this good."
Cassie smiled at him, "There are still some parts that I haven't figured out yet." Rory only shook his head in understanding.
Cassie brought up the first line, "A chosen crossbred, born of the creation of betrayal. With this line, obviously the crossbred makes sense for you. As far as the betrayal, with prophecies it can be metaphorically speaking. I thought about you, and Ethan."
Rory glared down at the paper, "I mean my parents did have an affair, but the Ethan thing could also make sense I guess."
"There 's another part about unleashing the trails of thous Heaven's, and thou Hell's. Also, unleashing the powers given of thou Heavens, and thou Hells." Cassie said, Rory just looking at her.
"What does that mean?"
"When I was in the woods, I came across a rock looking thing. It had on it, Portae ad caelum et infernum, which I thought was weird. It was right after you and Ethan. So, I looked it up, and you'll never guess what it means."
"Don't keep holding it in, what does it mean?"
"The gates to heaven and hell" Rory gasped at it.
"I know, I thought that was eerie too."
"That's crazy," Rory muttered underneath his breath.
"I know there are still some parts I don't know about, and I am still unsure of. I think finding you, and making sure we don't make this come true. We won't unleash heaven, and hell upon our worlds."
Rory only nodded at me, "Anything else I should know?"
Cassie shrugged, "Just be careful and cautious, you know about it now."
"I have to admit I am nervous now."
"Why?"
"The prophecy basically predicts me bringing an end to both of our worlds."
Cassie frowned at him, "Don't let it worry you too much. But the thing with prophecies can mean literally everything."
"That so helps me Cassie," Rory uttered more nervously now.
Cassie laughed at him, "I think that's why I am here, why I was called. I am supposed to help you, but I don't know how yet."
"Maybe you're my bewitching magic." Rory said, laughing.
"Wait what?"
"Yeah, you're a witch, bewitching, it's actually comically funny if you think about it."
Witch. The prophecy could be about different people. Cassie didn't think about that part. She started to think more about it. Cassie thought, how would that fit into Rory? She looked around, anyone could be a danger to him. She shrugged it off, if it happened she would be there to deal with it. Cassie went to put up the book, when the page flipped, it was on the Headmistress Aofnx. Alongside her, was the infamous Mr. Mason.
His mustache almost reminded me of a French man. I was looking at the picture, how they stood so close together. What I hadn't noticed before was Aunt Marley, the mole present on her face, the little detail. She was really close to Mr. Mason.
My eyes went over to the little piece of jewelry she had around her wrist. It was a dangling purple jewel. Cassie thought about the Headmistress, she wore that, around her own wrist. What kept throwing Cassie was the mole. What was going on here?
Maybe if she had the picture of her mom, it would make sense? Sitting there, Cassie closed her eyes. They had learned to conjure things from a simple spell. She concentrated her thoughts on the photo of her mom and dad. Also, the photo of when Cassie was a baby with her mom. It was sitting on her bedside table.
"Photos bring memories, bring ease to me with my mother." Cassie whispered, thinking about both photos. When she opened her eyes, there they were. She laughed, it had worked.
Cassie held up the photos, she noticed that her mom was wearing the same purple jewel. What the hell. She got up, closed the book, and took the photos with her. Cassie was fuming, and storming out of the library. She told the Headmistress she would find something out.
She had some sort of proof she guessed, and was about to go confront her about it too. Before putting the book up, she took a quick picture on her phone. Then, Cassie put the book up. She found herself walking into the Headmistress office the next thing.
"You bitch." I said to her, bursting in her office. Mr. Roger was sitting across from her.
"Miss Brooks, dear, what are you doing here?" He asked her, glancing around.
"I need to speak with the Headmistress, alone, and now!" She said demandingly, she could feel her power rising in her body.
"I don't think that's a good idea. I'd like to stay.." Mr. Roger said, tilting his head, and clapping his hands together.
Cassie stopped, she watched him, and then it hit her. His mannerisms, they were familiar. Why were they familiar? "Fine. I told you I would figure it out eventually."
Cassie had no clue, but she was about to bait the Headmistress into confessing everything. "And what is that Cassie?" The Headmistress replied, not glancing up from her computer.
Cassie pulled out her phone, pulling up the photo from the history book. The Headmistress glanced, and shrugged her shoulders. "That's my Aunt Marley, you know, my mom's twin sister. See that little purple jewel, you're wearing that right now." I said, pointing at her wrist.
The Headmistress Aofnx quickly covered it. "That doesn't prove anything."
"No, you're right, but my mom, and Aunt Marley were close. She gave me the whole story." Cassie pulled out the photos she had conjured earlier. She was pointing at the purple jewel on her mom's wrist with the photo of her as a baby.
"Who is that?" The Headmistress asked nonchalantly.
"My mom of course. See the purple jewel. Same exact one you're wearing right now."
"What are you trying to imply here Cassie?"
"You killed my mother, and took the jewel. I don't know why Aunt Marley has it too, but I just know you were there the night my mother was murdered. Awfully convenient to be wearing the same thing she wore."
The Headmistress laughed at me. She was doubled over with laughter. "I don't understand what you think is so funny?"
"Nothing, you thought I killed your mother. Kiddo, if you had been paying any attention you'd have noticed what's been happening in front of you this entire time."
She said kiddo, the only people who have called me that were my mom and dad. Dad said he started it, because mom always called me that.
"No."
"Yes, little one."
"You can't be." I whispered starting to back out the door. I didn't notice that Mr. Rogers was blocking it. He ushered me over to my seat in front of her.
"That's impossible though." I uttered underneath my breath.
"Is it though, I mean Cassie you knew deep down that I was your mother, somewhere somehow."
"But if you're alive, what about Aunt Marley?"
The Headmistress waved her hand at Mr. Rogers, revealing Aunt Marley, "Hello dear Cassie, it's been a minute since I last saw you." He said in her voice.
"But how did you do the spell for the wolf?" I asked him.
"Fairies are very skillful with magic. You're not the only one who can cast spells, and incantations in this world." Mr. Roger said, scarily eyeballing me. Shudders ran down my spine.
"You can't be my mom though, she's dead." I spoke to The Headmistress Aofnx.
"You're right your mom is dead, she's been dead for a long time now. I, however, have been alive, and thriving. But I am still your mother, biologically that is."
"What do you mean?"
"Did it ever occur to you to understand where your mother's name came from?"
"No?" Cassie said questioningly.
With that, the Headmistress withdrew her hand, spelling out the letters of her name, "My full name, Lady Reganomie Aofnx, when you switch the letters around, Meganie Ladronya Fox, your mother's name in the human world."
"Your name was hidden this entire time?"
"I told you if you had been paying any attention you would have figured it out. You would have figured out that I changed my name when I met your father. That I had disguised Mr. Roger's as your poor dear very dead Aunt Marley."
"No this can't be true."
"If you were smarter than that you would have figured out I was Mr. Mason's first wife, the one who murdered him too."
"What?" Cassie said, shocked to her core.
"Fayne Gemadlor Niaox.. Take those letters, and they spell out the rest like your mother's name."
"But you are my mother?"
"Yes I am, but now we are just strangers."
"Did you ever love me? Love my dad?"
"No."
My voice caught in my throat, "What I don't understand is you. What exactly are you to be this heartless?"
The Headmistress laughed at me, "Cassie, I am the most powerful being in this universe, across all worlds."
"So, then, what does that make me? Am I more powerful? Is that why you sent Jack to me?"
"Yes, you were created from my magic, from the blood of your father, and the blood of Mr. Mason. You are extremely powerful, with the blood of a witch, demon, a wolf, and a vampire coursing through your veins. You are immortal, you are the abomination to come."
"Why send Jack to kill me, why not yourself?"
"I sent Jack to see if you were any remote supernatural, there was no real effect that the spell would work. I mean I am powerful, but magic is always circumstantial. When he said you were human, it didn't sound like a fair trade."
"Fair trade?"
"To kill you myself, it wouldn't be a fair fight now would it. You would go looking for me one day. Children always do that with a parent that's not there."
"What about now, do you plan to kill me?"
The Headmistress hesitated, "Oh, I absolutely plan on it."
Cassie held up her hand, "Before you do, explain to me how the hell both men even fell for you."
"You should know Cassie, you get your good looks from your momma." The Headmistress said, winking at Cassie.
Cassie rolled her eyes, "So, you're telling me that there wasn't any epic between you and my dad. Or you and Mr.Mason?"
"My first husband was an idiot. A very powerful vampire, but still an idiot. You would think immortality would teach you something."
"Why create me though, just to kill me?"
"I told you, to instill the fear of why I am the most powerful creature here."
Cassie raised her eyebrows at her. "Just for the record you are not winning the best parent award."
"Oh, I know."
"I don't see what my dad saw in you."
"He didn't like me for my personality. I remember your father in his wolf form, so attractive, and so demanding. I was surprised when he passed off being Alpha onto the heathen known as Mike's father."
"Dad was an Alpha?"
"Of course, I am only attracted to powerful men, sweet Cassie."
There was a knock on the door. "We're busy, come back later."
The door was jammed open, in the doorway stood Jack, and beside him there was Damian. He had a worried look on his face. They entered the room, Mr. Roger looming right behind them.
"What are you two doing here?"
"We came to get Cassie." Damian said, stepping towards me, and grabbing my hand.
What was he doing here? "Damian, what are you doing here?"
"We came to rescue you." I glanced at Jack, and Damian.
"Rescue her, you're just going to get yourselves killed in the process. Damian, Jack just come back over here. You both did what you needed to do to get Cassie here."
I jerked my arm back from Damian, "You were a part of this?"
"Cassie I -, " I cut him off, "Save it Damian."
I felt my power surging forward, everything that I had ever felt coming together. I took the anger I was feeling with me. The betrayal. Of my own mother. Of my friend Damian. All of it. I could feel Bexley starting to squirm, she was uncomfortable by my new found rage.
I looked around the room, my eyes on fire. I could tell they were glowing. My demon side is coming out of me. "You're all going to regret this."
With that I charged forward, putting my hands in front of me, pushing Mr. Roger's out the door. He was unconscious across the hall. A hole the shape of him in the wall. I held my hands up, holding my mother, and Damian against the wall. They were pinned using my powers.
I looked at Jack, a grin formed on my face. I started running to him, "Gaetlio," I opened the portal taking him with me into the woods.
We stumbled into the reservation area, somewhere in the woods. I began to search for the rock that was the gates to Heaven, or Hell. I grabbed Jack's hand, forcing him to come with me. When we finally reached the rock, I could tell everyone was looking for me.
I could sense it, unlocking another part of myself made me stronger. My demon powers were still radiating in me. I could feel the presence almost like a tingling feeling.. We can upon the rock, I whispered, "Porfaile," the gates semi- bursting open. Almost halfway.
Black, like a swarm of it, came flooding out. Red, like the color of blood demanding it. Then, white, purity of the soul. The gates weren't fully opened, until I remembered a part of the prophecy. The one I am realizing was truly about me.
I bit into my skin, drawing blood, covering the rock. The prophecy echoing in my mind. I hoped it worked, it wasn't metaphorical at all. It was about people. I had the blood of all four of them. "What are you doing?" Jack uttered a surprise in his voice.
"Going to Hell, and you're coming with me." The gates fully came open. Dragging Jack behind her, Cassie entered the iron gates of Hell. Before leaving, she turned around, just in the distance was Damian, Kat, Max, her dad, and the Headmistress. Until next time we meet.
