In the tsunami, Paul's hand was injured by a barracuda. To ensure his arm recovered full normal function, Flynn Taylor decided to take Paul directly to a hospital in Paris for treatment.
At the same time, there were several other critical patients who also had to be transferred to the large hospitals in Paris promptly, including Monica's husband. Consequently, a group of people took Flynn Taylor's helicopter to Paris.

Paul's surgery went very smoothly, his hand was saved, but he still had to be observed in the hospital for a few more days.
Ave Carlisle, with the little creatures in tow, stayed day and night in the VIP ward, while Flynn Taylor ran the errands.
Early in the morning, as Flynn Taylor entered the ward with a variety of breakfast items, he found no sign of Paul or Ave. Only the two little creatures were lying on the floor, playing with Transformers.
He asked, "Where are Daddy and Mommy?"
