Chapter 109 - Chapter 109

Trixy was stunned as Sam led her off the stage, her hand tingling more than hurting. She was feeling what the members of Goldmoon were feeling, which was love and acceptance, not just of Trishanna as their new Luna, but also of her as Sam's mate, which made her the Beta female. She wasn't sure what that meant here, but in her home realm, it held great significance. She told herself that she would visit her special library and the one in the pack as soon as she got a chance. She stood to one side of the stage, her eyes on her mate. He had to return to duty, but his eyes kept glancing at hers, his love echoing deep within. She could feel the bond between them grow with this new development, and she couldn't wait to explore it. Could it help her conceive faster? She placed a hand on her empty womb, trying not to let hope rise too much. Sam's gaze flickered to her stomach and back at her face, his comfort evident as she could almost feel him whispering comfort in her mind.

She nodded and dropped her hand. No matter what, she was not alone, and they would face this new life together. Speaking of not being alone, she looked through the crowd, trying to find her brother. She knew he was close and wondered why Bradley hadn't called him forward to welcome him with the ritual. As her eyes scanned the crowd again, they stopped on the female who was objecting to James's announcement of Tishanna being the new Luna. Trixy shook her head. Some women don't know how to take rejection gracefully, but was she any different a few years ago? She scanned the trees, wondering if that was where her brother was. It was possible as he did a lot of spying on cheating men or women, almost like a private detective, as well as security for hire. He fit in with the warriors, and she shouldn't be surprised if he'd volunteered to help with security. Maybe he didn't plan to stay with the pack, and that thought made her sad. They have always been together, fighting and fussing and supporting as they only had each other, but as her gaze drifted back to her mate, maybe her brother felt confident that now she has her place in this world and he is now free to find his, even if it's not in the same place.

She looked back at the crowd, her eyes falling on the woman, Candice, was her name and noticed she was acting a bit off. She looked so mad, rage filled her eyes, but she tried to keep her gaze on the ground. As she was elevated, Trixy could see her hands balled into fists, her body tensed. Hey, you didn't survive the life she lived and the jobs she's had without picking up a thing or two about people's intentions through body language, and right now, Candice's stance said that there could be trouble. The only problem was that Trixy couldn't tell how much trouble it would be. She kept her eyes on her, watching for any sign. There, Candice turned and looked at one of the trees a bit behind her on her left, rubbing the side of her eye with her forefinger while having her pinky in the air, wiggling it back and forth three times. That was a signal, but for what? For people to throw rotten veggies at Trishanna?

She tried reaching out to Bruno using their twin abilities, hoping that her new role didn't affect her. She didn't know how, but he always found her when she needed him. A movement in the treeline made her eyes shift, and before she could pinpoint what it was that drew her attention, a streak of blue hit the stage. She turned, horrified at the sound as it tore through the thick curtains that made up the backdrop to the stage. The crowd erupted in a panic, everyone scrambling, a lot of the pregnant females holding their bellies and running for cover. A few more blue strikes hit the ground, making the crowd scatter as the attacks seemed random, except for the first one. Like they were trying to cause chaos. Her eyes swung back to Candice, but it was hard to find her in the crowd. She was short, but Trixy tapped into her power and found her. She jumped off the stage and headed straight for her, wishing she could link with her mate, but she knew that Sam had already shifted, leading many wolves toward the woods.

While everyone just scattered, it appeared that Candice was heading for a particular path. She headed for one of the cabins, but instead of rushing inside where some of the men and even the pregnant female warriors were trying to usher non-combatants to safety, she ran around it, heading into the woods, away from where the attacks came from. Trixy followed, her hands glowing as she was sure that this woman knew something and may even be part of the attack, and as a new member of Goldmoon, the female Beta no less, attacking the Luna was a form of treason. She was thankful that Candice was an omega, or else she might have lost her, but Trixy simply tapped into her powers, taking a bit from her mate. She boosted her vision and increased her speed, her only thought to capture her and bring her to Sam for questioning.

Candice turned, and when she saw that she was being followed, she tried to run faster. This was not what she expected to happen when she agreed to help the strange person who reached out to her a few days before. She was just at the local bar, wanting to burn off some steam, mad that Alpha James ignored her every time he came over. It pissed her off that even though her senses were weaker that a wolf, she could still smell the scent of 'Trash' all over him. She'd slammed back her fifth drink and then headed outside, needing to find someone to distract her, to ensure her that she still had what it takes to pull a man, even if he didn't want to. She wanted someone new, as she'd been with most of the guys in the bar. light harmless fun before they crawled back to the home or the hole they'd come from. As she looked up and down the dark streets, the one light flickering above her head, a tall figure walked up to her. She couldn't tell much from their face, which was covered in a hat and a hood, but their physique was delightful. She all but purred, hoping that this person was wild in bed; the shy, quiet ones always were.

He stepped forward, sniffing, a slow smile curling his lips. "A shifter, and one possibly from Alpha James's pack?" Candice tilted her head, curious about how he guessed that. She smiled. "It seems my reputation precedes me", she purred, licking her lips slowly, angling her body so the tall man would catch a good eyeful of her goods. Being short in these situations always played to her advantage as one look at her breasts in her favourite push-up bra and most men lost their train of thought, never looking into her eyes again. She felt his gaze drop, an appreciative hum in his throat, but he looked back at her face. His smile grew. "Yes, I have heard some lovely things about you and I think you will do quite nicely". He stepped closer, running one finger down her cheek. "So soft," he whispered. "I would love to play with you, my dear, but I must first deal with something." He sighed, "Maybe you could help me with what I came to do, and then I can help you soothe that itch you have. And I can assure you that you will be satisfied". Candice had heard that before, but this was the first time she believed that this man in front of her might just deliver. Even James never really fulfilled her; she just tolerated it in hopes that he would choose her or at least she would bear his child and secure a place in the pack. "What do you need?" she asked, a smile on her lips.

Candie cursed herself. What did she get herself into, for she was sure that strange man was part ot the attack. It was so simple, just go along as usual, and if there was anything new, relay the information, and they'd come up with some signals. He assured her that she would not be harmed, but she never thought that he would launch an attack. Shit, if Alpha James or Alpha Bradley found out about her role in this, she could kiss her life goodbye. She shouldn't have spent the money that man gave her on new clothes and shoes. Her aunt always told her to save for rainy days. If she had it, she would have been able to run away and maybe start a new life. That five thousand dollars in cash could have done so much. Now, what did she have? A new dress that was torn and dirty, her new shoes had already lost one heel. Damn Alpha James, he didn't even look at her once.

She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't realise that the girl with the purple streaks had changed her direction and now appeared at her side. One shove and Candice tumbled to the ground. Trixy reigned in her powers, not wanting to use them and expose herself if it could be avoided. Candice staggered to her feet, her hand raised like claws, but she knew she didn't stand a chance. While she spent all of her time maintaining her body, it was for show, but this woman clearly knew how to fight. Still, she wasn't going down, and Candice launched herself. She may not have warrior training, but she's been in a few catfights, and she knows how to fight dirty. Tirxy braced herself, knowing this fight would not be fair. She smiled as this is what she's used to.

Cndice rushed at her, then dodged at the last second, making the woman unstable. She leaned to one side and used her shoulder to shove her to the ground. She pounced then, slapping and hitting, pulling her hair. Trixy defended herself, and when she got the chance, she rolled them over, pinning Candice to the ground with her body, but Candice never played fair. She grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it in Trixy's eyes. She pulled back, mad that some of it got in her mouth. She was tired of this little game and raised her hand, ready to be done with it, when a man's grip stopped her from landing the punch that would have knocked Candice out. She turned, ready to unleash her frustration at the new threat, but stopped when she realised that it was Bruno. "What?" she asked, frustrated. Candice took the moment of her distraction and her free hand to slap Trixy, her manicured nails leaving a trail of blood from two of her fingers slowly running down her cheek. Trixy's eyes glowed, her gaze still on her brother. "She's gonna pay for that", she grunted through clenched teeth, but Bruno wasn't looking at her, but at the woman lying beneath her, still squirming to get away. A look that she's never seen before. He looked confused, upset and hopeful. Trixy's eyes moved back and forth between the two of them, Candice now still as she looked up at the new arrival, her expression mirroring his. Just what was going on?

She stood, keeping a hand on Candice's arm, pulling her to her feet. She, of course, renewed her effort to escape. "Look, bro, I don't know what the hell is happening with you, but she is sus as hell. I'm taking her to Sam for questioning." Bruno looked hurt by her words, his eyes unable to stray away from the little she devil who pulled, but not as hard as before. "Come on, little miss Sunshine, I'm sure my mate will love to talk to you." Trixy began to drag her back to where they were, but she dug in her heels. Trixy sighed, already tired of her, and with a swift move, she struck the back of her neck, making Candice go limp as she lost consciousness. Bruno frowned at her. "You didn't need to do that", he growled. Trixy huffed, "If you thought that I was going to play tug-of-war with her all the way back, you've lost your damn mind." She bent to half lift, half drag her, when Bruno stepped in. "Let me", he offered and with a touch she's only ever seen him use whenever he teneded to hurt animals, especially cats, he lifted her in his arms like some damned lost princess. Trixy just watched him, her mouth open at the tenderness she rarely even received from her big brother unless she was sick, almost unto death. Bruno was several steps away when she snapped out of it, "Hey, wait up." When she caught up with him, the look on his face as he stared down at the sleeping woman made her pull back. "Bruno, just what the hell is going on with you?" she demanded, hoping that what she thought was not true, but his words shattered that hope.

"I think," he swallowed. "Trix, I think she is my mate".
