Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Ice, Paintballs and The History of Vampirism

Raven hummed as he infused a bit of mana into a small pair of blue gems twirling in his hands, of course said small amount of mana was enough to nuke England in its entirety and have enough laying around for something else.

His other hand was holding a Grimoire on Ice Magic. He hound found it interesting. It wasn't the strongest element around, sitting carefully in the middle, good offense and defensive capabilities, but it was great support magic.

He was studying the three version of ice magic that humanity employed.

Wizards didn't really have much that was "Ice Magic", but rather it was mostly transfiguration, the rare ice spells were weak and more for home use, like making ice cubes.

Magus' magecraft had lots ice spells in comparison, but their potency was quite lackluster in some cases, but don't underestimate their usefulness, or the rare few outliers.

Then again, the outliers could also be mostly related to those with a lot of prana to be used. Lorelei is a great example of this, she could cast elemental spells up to her standard, said standard was city level destruction to be considered properly learnt.

The less said about Mages and their spells, the limit was mana and the limits of the spell, or even just a spell that was raw mana usage to summon the elements.

He decided to try and make his own spell involving the use of all three different class of magics. The calculation capacity of mages, the imagination limits of wizardry, and the versatility of magecraft.

Power and Control.

So with a bit of a thrum of his mana, he had the calculations start forming in the air as he thought them up, slowly arranging them in the needed way to let the spell circle take shape in a small form. Slowly shrinking to accommodate for more room.

"Achoo!" He went wide eye as he sneezed and suddenly the whole room was covered in burning hot ice.

"Why!? Owwwwwwwwwww!" He groaned as he realized there was multiple pieces of ice stuck inside his body. "Who talked about me!? I'll fucking kill them!" Raven snarled out as he started removing the ice.

Bloody shards of ice were extracted from his body, and he paused as he noted one was stabbed into his head, and yet he was able to think fine. Like straight in the brain, and he was thinking just fine.

"Do I stab myself in the head further to test this?" He asked himself unsure, then shook his head, even he recognized that was a stupid thing to do, and he did a lot of stupid things daily.

Hermione Granger shivered as she tucked her Time-Turner back into her shirt.

"Why do I suddenly feel like I'm in danger?" She asked herself as she looked around for anything.

She quickly decided to make her way to her class, while avoiding a certain hallways to not run into herself.

Because apparently if you run into yourself, you can damage the fabric of Space-Time.

Raven giggled softly as he held a finger gun out and "pulled" the trigger, instead of bullets, small icicles shot out instead.

"Pew!" He mimicked the sounds of Star Wars blaster shots, because why not?

"Wait… I'm more then capable of making Lightsabers." Raven felt a feral grin form on his face as he cackled away. The house elf who was supposed to come get him decided to come back later.

"Welcome to Raven Inanis' lessons on dueling. Today we will be going over the most important part of your lessons." Raven said with a cheerful(read sinister), smile.

Rose, The Twins, Longbottom and Granger all shivered as they stood in front of him.

"Dodging." He revealed as spell circles started glowing all around him, he had invented a paintball spell just for this occasion. Also totally not for prank wars, totally not… ok maybe a little.

"Now, each of these spell formulas will lock onto one of you and fire paintballs, your goal, dodge them. Rose, red. George, blue. Fred, green. Granger, purple. Longbottom, yellow. Good luck~" Raven said with cheerfulness as he let the spells go off.

He started off on the light setting, slow, to let them try and get used to it. Then he cranked it up five notches.

The twins obviously had no issue avoiding them at all at the current speed, Rose wasn't struggling much, he mused she could use some dance lessons to fix her balance issues. The two regular humans were struggling immensely though at this level and had received a few hits.

"Longbottom and Granger, dead." He snapped his fingers as their spells stopped firing at them, and turned towards Rose and The Twins. Then fired at them.

"The only good enemy, is a dead enemy." Raven said before he increased the size of the spell circles as they started firing more paintballs and even having movement to them.

"Dodging is an art." Raven began as he summoned his wand and waved it, the terrain shifting about with changes. The smooth ground now becoming uneven, cracks forming, rocks appearing and trees popping up.

"So is situational awareness. Now the fun part, all out fire." Raven said as he snapped his fingers and dematerialized his wand as the paintballs started firing much faster.

Three hours later, everyone's was covered in paint, Raven happily was eating candy while they were suffering. He had vanished it afterwards to prevent Rose from burning him.

Raven looked around at the defense classroom. He was in charge of teaching the class properly about dead apostles.

Of course he probably knew more then anyone about them in this school, but still, the point stands. Then again, he also understood what Albus wanted for him to teach these kids about them for.

Wand wavers were idiots.

They believed themselves all that, so he should teach them what the top of the world looks like. Dead Apostles were a nasty threat for the lower echelons of all supernatural factions, less said about ancestors the better, those annoying punks.

Raven glanced at his watch and smiled, a single heavy clap of his hands had everyone stop talking and turn towards him where he stood leaning against the desk.

"Hello everyone, welcome to Defense Against The Dark Arts, as or as I know some of you like to call it, DADA, today we will be going over something important to you all." Raven smiled, mentally he decided he would get a cloak, mostly for dramatic flare, having it swoosh out when he threw his hands out would be nice.

"Vampirism. Now who can tell me about vampires?" Raven asked and he randomly picked one of the students.

"Vampires are a night time species that burn up in the sun. They survive off blood and can turn people into vampires with a bite." The Slytherin said boredly.

"5 points for such a lackluster answer Mr. Graneson." Raven said as he created an image of a shadowy figure with glowing red eyes.

"Vampires do require blood as substance, they can go without it, but eventually they will slowly get weaker and weaker till they just stop existing. It is a very painful process, however stronger vampires can last for years without drinking blood. Vampires have a basic hierarchy, ghouls, fledglings, vampires and elders. Ghouls are those who failed to transform properly and lost themselves. Fledglings are newly turned vampires. Vampires are those who have learnt all they can under their sire. Elders are those who have lived for over 300 years." Raven spoke and then offered a mysterious smile.

"Now who can tell me the origin of vampires?" He asked them all. No had an answer.

"No one knows the origin of vampires! They just appeared one day." A Ravenclaw said confidently and Raven felt disappointed in his old housemate.

"-5 points to Ravenclaw, Mr. Ackles. If you had opened your textbook properly to page 457, paragraph 8, instead of looking at something you shouldn't have, you would know the origin of Vampires." Raven declared as everyone immediately started flipping their books to that page.

"In the time before Christ, there was only dead apostles, let's call them vampires on steroids. One was somehow captured by the oddest pair, a wizard, one Jenlial Jenkins, and a magus, one Frank Gruton, managed to capture a very weakened dead apostle." Raven said as he removed the shadowy figure he had made earlier.

Now it changed to that figure on a dissection table and two shadowy figures standing over it holding surgical tools.

"For months on end they studied the dead apostle, they wanted to understand its origin, the power of dead apostles and make it their own. The longevity. Strength. Mana. Mystery. All of it." Raven said as the shadowy figures started dissecting the one strapped to the table.

"Sir-" "Professor" "Professor Inanis, if they were so strong, how come the dead apostle couldn't escape them?"

"Good question Ms. Smith. Just like vampires need blood, dead apostles use blood to regain strength, this one had just gotten in a fight and was exhausted and injured. He hadn't been able to get any blood to heal or replenish himself, however unlike vampires, dead apostles can survive without blood, it's just a torturous and tough life, they must use their own power to suppress their bloodlust and desires to drain a being of their life force." Raven said with a smile and awarded 20 points.

"Now eventually a mistake happened, the two scientist somehow injested the blood of the dead apostle they had been working on, containing the venom used to transform a being and many other things. However in that moment, somehow, the dead apostle gained blood to drink and managed to regain its strength and escape, but not before stabbing the two through the chest with their arm, leaving the two to die in slow agony, unable to move due to their broken and ripped out spines." Raven revealed as he let his face form a even more mysterious smile.

"The two should have died, alone and in pain, but their formula had a requirement, what is a vampire? Dead. Their heart doesn't beat. So when the two died, the vampiric strain began and so came back to undead life, the first vampires." Raven said as he snapped his fingers and the the shadowy figures disappeared, they had kept changing to narritate his story.

"Now, all of you will write a three page long essay on vampires and what you can find on dead apostles. Extra credit to anyone who can write whatever they can find on dead apostle ancestors, the extra credit will only be given if the information is factual and correct. Be sure to cite your sources and references. Next class we will properly go over dead apostles." Raven ordered before he dismissed everyone.

He took that moment to sit around for 15 minutes reading a book, idly noting it was time of the full moon, so Lupin was probably busy preparing to howl at the moon.

"I should go get some samples from him tonight." Raven mused with a grin.

The next morning Remus Lupin woke up with a new scar on his arm, almost enterly faded somehow already, and feeling a particularly new fear of birds and blue light.

This chapter had me rewrite it a few times, vampiric origins was something I had to think about how I wanted it to be.

Obviously True Ancestors were the beginning from Brunestud, then we had Dead Apostle Ancestors, Dead Apostles and then Ghouls.

So I thought why not make vampires a failed experiment to replicate dead apostles abilities and powers by two idiots in the past, many people experiment on them in the present, but in the past, their information was less known, so it makes sense some issues would happen, and since dead apostles are by loose terms, very loose terms, considered alive, it only makes sense that vampires be considered dead due to their non bearing heart, officially classifying them as undead.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter, feel free to comment any questions you have, I'll happily answer them, unless it reveals spoilers, which I'll say so.

Anyways, tata dear readers!

Until next time!

Bye~
