He was gone, my baby was gone , like he vanished into thin air.
The crib was empty.
The blanket I had swaddled him in…gone. Even the little fox plush Mama Sage had sewn for him was missing,It was like he'd never existed.
I dropped to my knees once more , gasping, choking on air that suddenly felt too thick to breathe. My hands shook violently as I reached under the bed, checked the cabinets, opened and slammed drawers I'd already checked.
"Asher!" I screamed, my voice breaking, raw and hoarse. "Asher!"
Lucinda burst through the door behind me, her face pale as paper. "What—Elena—what happened?!"
"He's gone!" I cried, scrambling to my feet and grabbing the front of her coat. "He's GONE, Lucinda!"
"What do you mean gone? Who is…." You paused the moment she realized Asher wasn't in his crib.
" How?What happened?"
" Ama-Amanda…." I stammered fighting but tears.
" Amanda? Maybe she moved him , but I didn't give any orders for him to be moved."
