Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Plans

"To extinguish the flame of the Floie family? It sounds as though you have some sort of scheme, Mistress." Cas questioned the girl's declaration, much like a butler would his master. Alix motioned for the boy to follow her.

"Scheming is the basic skill of any good sorcerer, Mind Slave. You should have picked that up by this point." Cas nodded respectfully to Alix. "Of course, Mistress."

"Now, I must begin to make moves. A focused assault of this level must be paid in kind. That bastard had the audacity to bring my father into this, so it's only fair that I go for his family." Alix sneered as she thought about her plan.

...Are we sure this girl is a good person? Just asking. Anyway, Alix entered her-uh I mean, Inengway's office with determination in her eyes. "We start today's lesson now!" Eric was sitting in the room eating with his uncle. "Isn't it a bit early? I mean it's only lunch-"

"Nonesense! It is never too early to learn about magic." Alix exclaimed boldly. Eric was bewildered. He had never seen the girl this excited about their lesson before. "What about the rest of our classes?" Alix calmed herself down and stared at Eric exhaustedly.

"Look, I have a few things that I have to do after school so we're doing the lessons now. I am not changing my mind so hurry and get ready."

"But my-"

"Get ready."

"Yes Mama Wolf I'll be there in just a moment!" Eric basically swallowed the rest of his food whole as he hurried to get ready for his lesson with Alix. He sat in his normal spot next to Cas and whispered to his fellow student. "Hey, isn't Mama Wolf more energetic than usual today?" Cas shrugged, "I believe the Mistress is just excited thinking about her future plans."

"What plans?"

"Have you not been informed?"

"Of course I haven't been informed I've got my own things to be worried about!"

"Then it does not concern an ingrate such as yourself." Eric looked at Cas bewildered. "Why are you like this dude?"

"It is how I was born, Eric."

"Enough talking, I will now begin." Eric and Cas switched their focus to their tutor. "Now today I will be introducing you both to a topic that I have been exploring myself recently. Unexplained magical phenomenon."

"Wait, what? Why would we be talking about something like that?" Eric exclaimed. "I understand your apprehension. This is quite honestly a niche topic that will likely not come up often in our lives." Alix stated. "However, I do believe that there is some benefit in talking about this as it can give insights about certain events or even further improve your spell casting ability by understanding this type of occurrence."

Eric slunk back in chair and nodded. "Fine~" He said with boredom ever present in his voice. "The idea that you are a spellcaster never ceases to amaze me, Holiday." Alix sighed.

"My name is Eric HOLLAND!"

Alix continued with the lesson. "In our world there are many events that occur through mana or magical phenomenon. However, some of these phenomenon seemingly have no explanation. Such as the Unending Sea storm that continues to rage and expand across Pesin to this day." Eric and Cas nodded along. Eric falling asleep as the girl continued her explanation.

"One of these unexplained magical phenomenon actually happened here around a month ago." Cas pitched into the conversation. "You mean the explosion at Lake Opin. I heard that they still do not know what caused that situation as when people arrived at the scene the lake was still empty."

Alix nodded. "That one was actually me, so it is not exactly unexplainable. Though I do not fully understand how I blew up the lake myself so it still should fit the criteria."

Eric sat straight up and stared at the girl in awe. "You blew up the lake. I heard people say all sorts of things happened with that thing . Like the lack of fish in the water enticed some big monster to move in and so there was actually some sort of leviathan or something in there. But instead it was you?"

"Yep. I was just testing a spell." Eric and Cas sat with there mouths agape. "What spell were you testing that blew up a lake. I heard that it basically rained for the rest of the day because of that." Cas nodded agreeing.

"That brings me to the point that I mentioned earlier. Mr personal researching of this topic..." Alix explained the details of her recent experiences. The fish, the rat, and the human all connected by the strings extending from Alix.

"That does sound quite interesting. And you do not understand why these events have been occurring?" Alix shook her head at Cas. "No clue. I also do not expect either one of you to understand it either. I just felt like I should probably tell you as one is also connected to Cas."

"Why didn't you connect one to me?" Eric questioned. Alix shrugged. "It just never happened for you." Eric turned to the fish on the table and stared at him intensely. "Are you telling me this floating freak is somehow better than me?"

"Does this dude have some sort o' problem with me, Lexi? Why is he glarin' at me?" Mo scowled at the boy.

"Because he is a fool, Mo." Eric turned to the girl perplexed. "Wait, did he say something just now? Do you two talk behind my back?" Eric exasperated.

Alix rolled her eyes, "You have nothing to worry about, Holiday. Just sit down so I can finish my lesson. I am almost done." Eric slumped down into his chair as Alix continued her lesson. After a few more minutes she wrapped things up.

"Now, I have other matters to attend to so you two are free to do whatever you want to do today." Alix grabbed her bag as she moved to leave but was prevented from doing so by none other than Cas.

"Mistress, would you be willing to answer another inquiry of mine?" Alix frowned at the boy. "What is it, Mind Slave?"

"Thank you for listening. I would just like to understand more about that spell that you mentioned that you were making." Alix stared at the boy intently. "What do you want to know about it?" Seeing that the girl was willing to answer his question Cas continued.

"Why haven't you told me about this spell that you are making? You have been teaching me the ways of Sorcery for a month now but, and pardon me if this is rude, you never mentioned being stuck on a spell that you were making." Alix sighed.

"Look, the spell does not concern you. It is merely a pet project that I have been working on for a while now."

"Project?" Cas cocked his head to the side, clearly wanting to know more. Alix stared at the boy before rolling her eyes, "I am trying to make sorcery spells that anyone can make use of. Not just the spellcaster."

"Why?"

"So that anyone with the interest can experience magic. Happy?" Cas's eyes widened at the girl's proclamation. "Yes. I am very happy with that response Mistress." Alix nodded and moved to leave as Cas called out one last thing.

"If you ever wish to teach anyone the spell, please know that I am always willing to be an experiment of yours." Alix waved her hand at the boy and left the room with Cas leaving shortly afterwards. Eric was the only one left in the room as he leaned back in his chair deep in thought.

'Unexplained Magical Phenomenon, huh. I wonder if that's what they'd call this thing?' Eric placed his hand on his stomach gently but still winced when he made contact. He hopped up and sighed. "Guess it's feeding time." Eric marched out of the room with purpose

It seemed like everyone had plans that they were going to fulfill. The plans must have been important or else they would not have forgotten something.

Or some one, so to speak. Mo was left sitting on the table pouting, "Lexi! Ya forgot to grab me!" Mo called out but got no response from the preoccupied girl. He scoffed. "Fine! I had something that I wanted to practice doing anyway. May as well use this time to do it."

Mo began to focus on the water in his bowl. He had been practicing this technique of his for a while now with no success. "I'll impress Lexi with this, for sure! What it would be useful for I don't know but I do know that it'll be really cool if I can pull it off!" Mo focused as the day continued to pass.

He would make no progress that day either.
