How could Deadpool have any connection with the TVA?
In Alex's mind, these two groups should have nothing to do with each other—even in the comics, Deadpool never had any interaction with them.
To be honest, if it weren't for the Marvel series Loki introducing the Time Variant Authority, many people might have forgotten there was even such a group managing timelines outside the main one.
Alex gently lifted his head, staring at the streaks of sunlight piercing through the tree canopy above.
The TVA showing up here was definitely no coincidence. Although Alex wanted to find excuses to explain the current situation, he knew deep down this timeline was no longer the familiar X-Men universe.
Looking down at Pierce lying on his back beneath him, Alex asked, "Now, tell me exactly where Deadpool went. I don't want to ask this again."
Pierce gasped for breath but nodded.
He was already terrified. He had never encountered anything so strange before—the man in front of him and the group that had just appeared were clearly not mutants, but some unknown existence.
To save his life, Pierce didn't hesitate to answer Alex's question.
"Deadpool was taken away by a group of people. I saw it with my own eyes, just moments ago. We've been chasing Wade Wilson—that's who you call Deadpool—this whole time."
"I know who Deadpool is. Keep talking." Alex stared at Pierce.
Pierce sat up and said solemnly, "I don't know what those people are. I only know they wore very advanced gear, steel helmets, and strange masks. They have the ability to pause time."
"Pause time? Are you sure?" Alex frowned.
"Pausing time is impossible. Even if I try my hardest, I can't truly pause time in an absolute sense. If time is paused, then all matter would be frozen, including light and sound. That means if time were paused, you wouldn't see or hear anything at all."
"It's not exactly pausing time—it's more like stopping or slowing down the time on our bodies. The bullets I fired were even slower than a normal walking pace, and our movements were restricted, becoming extremely slow. But our brains were still running at normal time speed," Pierce thought for a moment and said.
"If that's the case, it actually sounds reasonable."
Alex nodded thoughtfully. Manipulating time was the TVA's specialty—they could use technology above the timeline level to control the flow of time within it. This was quite similar to Alex's previous operations in the Zombie Hero Universe.
Although both greatly slowed down everyone's bodily time flow, achieving a near time-stop effect, the difference was that Alex used magical energy while the TVA used technology.
After pondering a moment, Alex continued, "What else did they say? I need all the intel on what happened after those people arrived."
"Wait, don't you have telepathic powers like Charles? Your voice just appeared in my mind. Why didn't you just read my memories directly?" Pierce couldn't help but ask.
"Do you think I didn't want to?" Alex rolled his eyes. "To suppress the power of the Time Reset Device, I've mobilized a huge amount of energy, and it hasn't settled yet. If I forcibly read your memories now, your brain probably wouldn't be able to handle it."
Hearing that, Pierce quickly moved back a bit, trying to keep his distance. After a pause, he continued, "I don't know who they are. They called themselves TVA law enforcement officers. Their armor had an orange symbol—the letters 'TVA'. They appeared suddenly, came straight to take Deadpool, and somehow knew everything about me."
That wasn't surprising. Since the TVA showed up here, it meant everything in this universe was under their surveillance. Not only Pierce, but even his experiences in alternate universes were known to the TVA.
"Oh, right."
Pierce suddenly remembered something and said urgently, "Their weapons were strange sticks with glowing parts on top. I suspect they were laser weapons, but they didn't use them. Also, when they left, they opened an orange portal."
"A rectangular, semi-transparent portal?" Alex's gaze sharpened.
"That's right, exactly that!" Pierce quickly replied.
As soon as he finished speaking, Alex felt everything around him suddenly quiet down.
A terrifying but highly plausible theory sprang up in his mind—one that could perfectly explain the current situation: the X-Men movie universe had been absorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
It was like missing the forest for the trees.
Before this, Alex had been wondering why the TVA would appear in this place at all.
After all, before he traveled here, Loki had just transcended the multiverse level and become the story god controlling all timelines. The TVA had always operated only within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, never involving other worlds.
But then Alex suddenly realized something. Before he traveled, Disney had already successfully acquired Fox. That meant, with a reasonable excuse, the X-Men universe could easily be merged into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After all, in Doctor Strange 2 and WandaVision, members of Fox's X-Men appeared as easter eggs and setups. So it wasn't impossible for this kind of thing to happen.
"Is this also a kind of contamination?"
Alex frowned tightly, feeling a slight tension growing inside.
If things really were as he suspected, then the trouble would be huge.
For a long time, Alex's greatest strength had been his knowledge of various universes. He was well aware of many cosmic matters, which gave him the time and means to prepare in advance.
But now, things were different. For what was about to happen, he had absolutely no preparation.
"So this time, I can only rely on my brain, huh."
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly, hiding the unrest in his heart behind a calm expression.
"Master, that's all I know." Seeing Alex remain silent, Pierce didn't dare to act rashly.
Hearing this, Alex snapped back to reality. He looked down at Pierce and nodded lightly. "That's none of your concern anymore. Let's go."
"Really?" Pierce's eyes widened. To be honest, he never expected this man before him to actually spare his life.
Although he didn't know who this guy was, when he saw Petra, Pierce already knew his chances were slim. His hands were stained with the blood of countless mutants, and Petra would never let him go.
And Petra had clearly now joined forces with this man. Pierce was mentally prepared to be killed.
Alex glanced at Pierce but didn't answer. Instead, he casually waved his hand, as if dismissing him.
Seeing Alex's gesture, Pierce felt a huge relief. He quickly got up and ran off without even bothering to pick up his weapon, afraid Alex would change his mind.
Some of the mercenaries who were still conscious saw Pierce run and hurried to follow his footsteps, leaving only the unconscious ones collapsed on the ground.
Alex watched Pierce's figure disappear into the distance, then came over to Petra's side. "If you want, you can go after them and kill them. I won't stop you."
Hearing this, Petra looked at Alex in surprise. A faint light flickered in her eyes, but she soon lowered her gaze.
"Forget it," she sighed, teeth clenched.
"If it were the old me, I'd have killed him in the most extreme way. But now, none of this matters anymore. This world is already doomed."
Alex tilted his head, looking at Petra.
She continued, "Just now, I heard you shout 'Time Resetter.' You must mean that little gadget in your hand. Though I don't know what it is exactly, that destructive energy isn't something to joke about."
After speaking, Petra looked up again and asked, "Mr. Crow, tell me honestly — is this thing's purpose really to completely destroy our world?"
Silent in the shadows, a breeze stirred the branches and leaves of the forest. As they swayed, a ray of sunlight shone directly onto Alex's right shoulder, spreading down to his left waist.
After a long pause, Alex finally moved. He didn't deny it but slowly nodded.
"The Time Resetter, as its name suggests, is a device that restarts the timeline. Once it detonates, everyone in this world will disappear."
"So, for those gods, our world is basically dispensable," Petra said bitterly, her smile filled with sorrow and desolation. But she quickly suppressed these emotions.
Looking seriously at Alex's face, Petra said, "Mr. Crow, this so-called TVA is probably the real reason for your trip here, isn't it?"
"It wasn't originally, but now, it is."
Alex's original target had been Deadpool, but since all this happened and Deadpool was taken away, he now directly pointed his focus at the TVA.
"Well then."
Petra bowed humbly, dropping to one knee. Eyes fixed on Alex's feet, she said each word carefully:"As a member of the X-Men reserves, please allow me to lend you my strength."
