The room was dim, lit only by the glowing monitors tracking Earth's post-battle state. Smoke lingered in the air. Heroes sat or stood in silence, nursing wounds, digesting the scale of what had just transpired. But the atmosphere turned sharp the moment Aiden walked in.
Nick Fury slammed his hand on the briefing table, standing tall, his one eye burning with restrained fury.
"So you're telling me," he said slowly, voice like cold steel, "that you just let him live?"
Aiden, still wearing the scorched remnants of his battle-worn cloak, didn't flinch. He was too tired for politics. "Yes," he replied bluntly. "As I keep explaining, his daughter made it clear—Galactus is not just some monster. He's a natural disaster. You don't put wildfires on trial. You don't arrest an earthquake. You don't kill them. They're part of the system. Same as him."
Fury's lips curled in disgust. "I don't give a damn about cosmic balance or universal cycles. That thing tried to destroy our world. That makes it our enemy. Period."
Aiden's eyes narrowed, sharp like blades. He took a step forward.
"Well, fuck you, Fury," he said, his voice cold and brimming with exhaustion-fueled venom. "I was the one out there—me. Not you. You were in here barking orders while I was out in space getting pounded by a walking apocalypse. You wanna make a choice like that? Be my guest. Next time he shows up, you can try killing him. See how that goes."
The room went dead silent.
"What if he does come back?" Fury pressed, voice rising with frustration.
"Then I'll deal with him," Aiden snapped. "I'll kill him. On sight. That's my promise. But until then, be grateful we didn't all end up as celestial appetizers."
He turned, muttering as he walked toward the exit. "Now excuse me… I'm going to sleep for five days straight. I'm beat."
Fury stood, fuming silently as Aiden disappeared down the corridor.
Tony Stark broke the silence with a long exhale, raising an eyebrow as he looked toward Fury. "You're pushing too hard. He made a call none of us could've made—and frankly? We're alive because of it. Be grateful for that."
Fury gritted his teeth but didn't speak.
Steve Rogers folded his arms. "He is. We all are. But Tony… can we really afford to put all our hopes in someone with that much power?"
Thor leaned forward, eyes serious. "The boy has the soul of a warrior and the fire of a god. He has fought alongside us, bled beside us. To question him now—after what he's done—is unwise. Dangerous, even."
Natasha, seated in the corner with her legs crossed, added dryly, "He has godlike power and the temper of a hormonal teenager. Kid's juggling five—maybe six—girlfriends like it's no big deal. You sure he's the future you wanna rest Earth on?"
"Oh now we're judging playboys?" Tony smirked.
Thor let out a short laugh. "Where there is greatness, there will always be admiration—especially from women. It is no fault. The boy has power, yes, but also purpose. I've seen what lies in his heart. There is no evil there."
He then added, voice grave, "But let's say—hypothetically—he was evil. Could any of us stop him now? You saw what he did to Galactus. One of his forms wiped the floor with most of us. And now he's even stronger. It would be foolish to provoke him, especially now."
Tony nodded. "Give him what he wants. The pardon for Wanda and her team. Let the kid live how he wants—he earned that much. Hell, he earned more than we can even give."
All eyes turned back to Fury, who clenched his jaw. He didn't like it. Not one bit. But he wasn't stupid.
He finally spoke, voice low. "You're right… We need to focus on recovery. Rebuilding. We can't afford an internal war right now."
He slowly reached for his communicator.
"I'll call the President," he muttered. "The pardon will go through."
He paused, gaze hard.
"Let's just pray… that kid never turns against us."
...
The sun was high and golden over the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific. Waves lapped rhythmically against the shore, a gentle soundtrack to the peace that had finally arrived. Aiden Blake, bare-chested and lounging in nothing but his dark shorts, reclined on a sleek, high-end beach chair nestled in the soft sands of his new private beachfront property.
To his left and right sat Valeria and Gwen, both soaking up the sun in matching white bikinis — much to their mutual annoyance when they realized it earlier. Gwen had gone beet red. Valeria had just smirked. Jubilation had laughed for thirty minutes straight. But Aiden? He hadn't complained once.
The mansion behind them was one of two homes he had purchased with his newly acquired wealth. Following the Galactus incident, the President of the United States had awarded Aiden the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian could receive. Tony Stark had added his own thanks in the form of a $100 million gift, saying, "A kid like you should be living like royalty. Earth owes you that much."
With a shrug and a smile, Aiden had done exactly that—he bought one beach mansion for himself, and another down the coast for his parents. He'd moved them out of New York immediately. That city had seen enough trauma. Here in Los Angeles, life could finally slow down… even if just a little.
As Aiden sipped from a cold coconut drink, he watched Noriko and Kitty race into the waves, splashing each other like kids. Not far off, Jubilee was attempting skateboard tricks on the paved patio, each one more ungraceful than the last. Aiden couldn't help but smile.
Then came Rogue, stepping out of the house with her usual confident swagger, wearing a black bikini that matched the streak in her hair. She held up a hand to block the sun as she approached Aiden, casting her shadow over his chest.
"So…" she smirked. "You ain't gonna join us? Water's perfect."
Aiden tilted his head back, eyes hidden by dark shades. "Nope. I'm having a great time right here—basking in the sun, and enjoying the very entertaining view of my girls playing around."
Rogue rolled her eyes, grinning. "Sheesh. You are so boring."
"I call it recharging. Big difference."
Valeria stood up, stretching with a satisfied sigh. "Well, I'm going back in. This sun's too hot anyway." She glanced down at Gwen, raising a brow. "Try not to hog him for too long."
Aiden couldn't help but admire her as she walked toward the waves, her bikini glowing under the sun. Gwen caught him staring and smirked.
"They really knew what they were doing when they picked those bikinis," she murmured. Then she leaned toward him, her voice softening. "You know… I didn't think I'd be okay with this kind of relationship."
Before he could speak, she stood up and straddled his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing a kiss to his lips—slow, deep, and full of warmth.
"But now…" she whispered, their foreheads touching, "I love it."
Aiden smiled, pulling her closer. "Me too. I'm glad you gave it a chance, Gwen. You've made me really happy."
"Oh?" she smirked, brushing her nose against his. "Then come on. Let's not keep the others waiting."
She stood up, pulling his hand.
"It wouldn't be fair for me to have you all to myself now, would it?"
Aiden chuckled as he let himself be pulled to his feet. "Alright, alright. You win."
As he followed her toward the surf, waves of peace rolled over him—different from any battle, more satisfying than any victory. It wasn't just that Earth had survived.
For once, he was living.
