Chapter 346 - Chapter 346: Demi-Gods, "Games," and "Purity"  (Bonus Chapter 1)

Ratatatat!

Bright red energy beams sliced through an entire squad of demon soldiers, their heads blown apart by Soap and his team's hard-light rifles. Some of the fallen, brainless corpses continued twitching in a futile attempt to move their nonexistent heads, but they could only stagger briefly before collapsing fully. Burning them to ash seemed to be the only way to kill these twisted beings completely.

Meanwhile, the Greek demi-gods' custom .75-cal explosive rounds proved even more effective. Each round exploded on impact, releasing bursts of fire and ethereal energy that engulfed the demon soldiers, destroying them with finality. Faint golden-red pulses radiated with each shot, signifying the "blessing" infused by Hera herself.

After the establishment of the Human Empire and the formalization of the Heretic Inquisition, Hera had signed an official contract with the empire, becoming a formal member of the Inquisition. Hera's psychic abilities were instrumental in enchanting the ammunition, a role suited to her skills since Athena, despite her strength, was a warrior focused on combat tactics and engaging high-threat demons in single combat.

In modern society, Hera and Athena were not only recognized as supporters of the Human Empire but also celebrated through media and entertainment, with popular games and films such as Wrath of Sparta and Fall of the Gods depicting legendary battles alongside humans. These projects reintroduced the myths of Hera and Athena, indirectly bolstering Hera's divine strength through renewed attention.

Now, in the battle of Earth-13, the explosive rounds imbued by Hera had a devastating impact on the demon forces, proving far superior to Earth-13's flamethrowers. The human soldiers from Earth-13 and the nun, still entrenched in their makeshift defenses, were both amazed and perplexed by the sight. They witnessed the arrival of Soap and the Greek demi-gods from the southeast, observing particularly the four demi-gods who stood over seven feet tall, clad in armor exuding a "divine" aura.

"Knights! They're knights!"

"The Empire hasn't abandoned us!"

The soldiers were invigorated, rallying with newfound hope.

The nun, however, remained silent, recognizing that these powerful figures were not part of the "Empire" she knew. Nonetheless, she adhered to the principle that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and resolved to lead her soldiers towards these newcomers in a breakout attempt. Gripping her sword, she pointed toward the demi-gods and called out, "The Church and the Empire stand with us! Let's break through and bring back intelligence on the demon forces. Charge!"

"Charge!"

The surviving soldiers left their trenches, aiming to join the demi-gods. However, they were soon intercepted by pure demon creatures—horrors beyond description, with grotesque forms like tangled masses of tentacles, spines, and grotesque eyes set in mutilated flesh. Others had humanoid forms with massive, sharp-edged bone blades for arms. The soldiers' weapons proved ineffective against these demons, whose unnatural resilience shrugged off gunfire.

Fortunately, the Black Falcon pilots, spotting the soldiers' predicament, directed their gauss cannons at the high-threat demons. Simultaneously, Soap, the advance team, and the demi-gods increased their pace, advancing to provide aid.

Boom! Boom!

Suddenly, the ground trembled as an enormous, red-skinned minotaur, nearly five meters tall, entered the fray. The nun narrowly dodged its massive bone club as it swung with terrifying speed, gouging the ground where she had stood. Stepping back to gain distance, she swung her greatsword, slicing into the beast's leg and drawing a spray of glowing red blood, though failing to sever its limb. Enraged, the minotaur retaliated, kicking her hard in the abdomen and sending her flying into a nearby trench.

Seeing their strongest fighter felled in seconds, the remaining soldiers hesitated, demoralized. Officers attempted to rally them, directing fire toward the minotaur, but the bullets barely scratched its tough hide. The beast laughed darkly, sensing no one left on the field capable of challenging it. As it turned toward the soldiers, ready to continue its slaughter, several explosive rounds charged with Hera's energy struck its side. The blasts shredded its flesh and exposed the bones beneath, with ethereal fire consuming its body until it collapsed as a smoldering skeleton.

The four demi-gods, having quickly crossed the battlefield, joined the soldiers' lines and continued firing, their blessed rounds tearing through the demons and twisted humans alike. Soap and the advance team arrived soon after, coordinating their fire with the demi-gods.

The human soldiers could only see the red light beams seemingly materializing out of thin air, while the demi-gods fought alongside them with their explosive rounds. When the demi-gods exhausted their ammo, they calmly stowed their guns and drew enchanted swords from their belts. Each blade radiated a pure golden glow, infused with Sun Yang's energy, enveloping the battlefield in purifying fire. The moment these swords touched a demon, the creature would be incinerated to ash by the golden flames.

As the ground shook and the poisonous fog around them briefly cleared, it became apparent that the demons stood no chance against this relentless assault. However, despite their advantage, Soap and the others could not protect all the human soldiers. Their numbers dwindled rapidly, with fewer than seventy soldiers left fighting.

Just then, the Shadow Wing and several Luna transport ships carrying elite reinforcements arrived, shifting the balance decisively. Emerging from the trench, the nun, bruised but still standing, noticed Soap deactivating his camouflage and stepping toward her. He looked at her with a calm resolve and said, "Ma'am, please come with us."
