Chapter 15 - Turn Back

ring ring... ring ring...

The phone rang, signaling the night shift had begun. I let the rings of the phone continue on until the sound became nothing but faded, muffled sounds. It wasn't until I hovered my finger over the 'accept' button and pressed it that everything turned back to normal.

ring ring... click!

"Hello, hello? Hey! Hey, wow, day 4. I knew you could do it. Hey, listen, I might not be around to send you a message tomorrow."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The banging noises coming from the other end of the line caught my attention during the phone call. This is way different than the previous nights.

"It's—it's been a bad night here for me. Um. I'm kind of glad that I recorded my messages for you. Ehm... Uh, when I did."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

This didn't sound good for the phone guy. Someone or something was banging on his door. Could it be Foxy? Or Bonnie?

"Uh, hey, do me a favor. Maybe sometime, you could check inside those suits in the back room?"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"I'm gonna try to hold out until someone checks. Maybe it won't be so bad."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Check the suits?--Is there another backroom?

"Uh, I always wondered what was in all those empty heads back there. You know..."

Freddy's lullaby began to play in the background, followed by a ghoulish moan. It sounded like Bonnie's.

"Oh...Oh no..."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Golden Freddy's recognizable screech abruptly interrupted the call, cutting it short. So, they weren't just after me this whole time—they attacked any guard that worked here. But why? Why attack innocent nightguards? What's the point?

De de dum dum dum do do...

Ha ha... Ah ha ha...

The troublemakers are awake. The night has just begun. As soon as I activated the security tablet, the show stage camera welcomed me. None of the animatronics were present, including Freddy. I checked on Foxy first and found him peeking out of his purple cove with his one silver eye staring intently at the camera. I quickly flipped through multiple cameras to locate where Chica, Freddy, and Bonnie had gone. Bonnie was in the backstage room—Chica and Freddy were both in the bathrooms. I returned the camera to the pirate's cove to monitor Foxy. We don't want him to attack us.

So far, everything seemed fine. The animatronics weren't pushing that hard, and there wasn't any sign of the imposter Golden Freddy. I took a long, deep breath. Everything will be alright. You will make it through this night. After that, it's just one more night. What could go wrong?

A laughter that sounded like it belonged to a little girl echoed around the pizzeria. The laughter sent goosebumps on my arms and shivers through my spine. I looked around the office, trying to locate the source of the laughter—but nothing was there. I flipped through the cameras, but I couldn't find anything. Where did the laughter come from?

Without warning, the Golden Freddy imposter appeared in front of me, glitching and twitching violently. The violence of his movements made it seem as if he was furious. Distorted, garbled noises buzzed from his mouth as he spoke

"I see you haven't learned your lesson," the Golden Freddy imposter said. "You keep returning... acting like the loyal lapdog you are."

"It's not like I've received my week's pay," I muttered. "How else am I supposed to get what I worked hard for?" The imposter wasn't amused.

"You'd risk your life for a worthless paycheck rather than live? Humans are truly foolish creatures."

"Try paying bills first, then come talk to me," I shot back. "Speaking of which... why are you even here?" The imposter straightened, his silver, piercing eyes locking onto mine.

"To find out why you're still here, even as the animatronics try to kill you. Why are you so obsessed with this place? Why stay of your own will?"

"Well, number one: I want to be paid. Number two: Cassidy claimed she knows who I really am. Number three: I haven't put in my two weeks' notice yet."

"Haven't you considered that you've made an idiotic choice coming here in the first place?"

"I have. But I don't know who I am. I don't know my family. I don't even know where I came from. Wouldn't you make the same dumb choice to find out?"

The imposter opened his mouth to reply but stopped.

"What's the point... if your family doesn't even remember you?" he asked, voice lower. "if it's been years? Years enough for them to forget about you—because somebody decided to murder you?"

"I--I may not be in the same shoes as you. But I'm sure your family still thinks of you."

"How can you be certain of that?" Have you seen them? Spoke to them?"

"N-no..."

"Then how do you know? The answer is, you don't. You don't know anything. You don't know what happened here years ago. You don't realize that you're part of something bigger. You don't even realize..."

The imposter leaned in, glitching more violently.

"̶̗̭͓͌̈́Ý̷̥̿Ō̵͕̼̊U̷͈̤̔ ̴͉̳̈́͑͝A̶̟̍̉Ȑ̸̼̀͛͜E̵͓̪̪̋̂͐ ̵͍̈́͝Á̶͕̭̒́ ̵̦͋̐M̶̨̟͠U̸̫̬͖͠R̴͍͕͓̈̌͝D̵̻͇̂̑͠E̵̛̫̟͐̄R̶͕͓̆È̵̘Ṛ̸̽"̵̤̮̥͒̑͒

My stomach twisted. What? That can't be true—I haven't killed anyone.

"You must be thinking to yourself, 'How is that possible?' I haven't done anything!' You may not possess your previous memories, but I know what really happened."

"I—I don't understand--"

The imposter's silver eyes became much brighter. as if someone turned their high beams on a car.

"YOU WATCHED AS I WAS STUFFED INTO A SUIT--BRUTALLY. LEFT TO ROT. TO DIE. AND YOU TALK ABOUT MY FAMILY?" The imposter's sudden voice raise startled me where I sat. I rolled back in the security chair to distance myself from the imposter, who was leaning in violently. The atmosphere became more pressurized. The aura of the room changed significantly. Fear was tearing me apart.

"YOU'RE THE REASON THEY THINK OF ME INSTEAD OF SEEING ME. YOU TOOK THEM FROM ME!"

"I--I still don't understand what you're saying. I haven't done anything!" I shouted. My ears began to ring from how loud the imposter's voice became.

"Of course you don't. And maybe you never will. But your family? They'll pay. É̵̙V̷̫̌Ȅ̴̻R̵̦͘Y̵̧̚.̵͉̒ ̸̯̽L̵̟̑A̷͍̅S̵̱͌T̵̹̃.̶͇͋ ̴̹̇Ọ̵͛N̸͖͊E̵̩͑.̶̱͘ ̸̲̏Ỏ̶̫F̸̤́.̶͙̀ ̴̖̄Ṯ̶͛H̵̳͘E̷͉̋M̴̨͠.̵̋ͅ"

Suddenly, he lunged forward. The imposter Golden Freddy sent a deep, bloodcurdling scream so loud it made my ears bleed. I placed my arms in front of me in a defensive stance to block the imposter's sudden attack. The imposter pushed me back hard enough for me to fall backwards on the security chair. I closed my eyes and braced for impact. In a second, I hit the floor with a thud.

I slowly opened my eyes, adjusting to the lighting of the office. The imposter Golden Freddy was no longer in the office with me. My head and back ached with pain, but I had to get up. The night was still going on. I groaned as I got up from the floor and picked up the security chair to stand it upright. After doing so, I immediately checked both security doors for any signs of animatronics. There weren't any.

I settled down on the security chair to take a breather. Who is my family, and what have they done to deserve this much hate? especially from one person. The last time I checked, I hadn't killed anyone. I haven't watched anyone die before. What was he talking about? This doesn't make sense. Why is he accusing me of something I haven't done? Metallic footsteps became audible to my left despite the tinnitus I contracted from the imposter's scream. I illuminated the hall to find Bonnie in the office window, staring with his jaw hanging open. Bonnie was emitting the same garbled noise as the imposter Golden Freddy. I closed the door. I can't sit around and keep questioning—I need to finish the night.

A few minutes passed by when the tinnitus cleared and the blood near my ear dried up. I picked up the security tablet and looked around to locate the animatronics. Chica was in the bathrooms, Freddy was in the dining room, and Bonnie was in the backstage room. I opened the left door to conserve power.

De de dum dum de de dum dum do do de do

I clicked on the pirate's cove camera to find Foxy already out of his hiding place, ready to run.

Ha ha ha... ah ha ha

Freddy moved somewhere. I located him shortly after in the right hallway camera. Maybe the animatronics do have some intelligent life. It looks like Freddy and Foxy will attack at the same time. The only problem is when. A loud pitter-patter of feet played in the left hallway. Foxy is coming. In a flash, I closed the door to prevent Foxy from entering the office.

Ha ha... ah ha ha ha

Foxy arrived and banged on the door three times before retreating to his cove. I opened the door and quickly went to the right door. Freddy definitely moved. I lit up the right hallway but found nobody there. Where was Freddy? Did he go back? I poked my head out to look down the hall, but I didn't find Freddy there. My next move was to look behind the door.

A low, ghoulish moan emitted from behind me. I turned around instantly to find Freddy behind me with his jaw open to the size of my head. Freddy lunged forward and tried to bite my head. I moved back in time to get back inside and close the door.

Ha ha ha ha... ha ha...

Sweat dripped from my face. My breathing became scarce. I shook in fear. I will never, EVER do that again. I almost fucking died. I almost had my head torn off... From now on, the cameras are my best friend. I can't be ignorant and careless anymore. This is my life on the line. I sat back down on the security chair and flipped through the cameras. Freddy camped at the right door, Bonnie was in the left hallway, Chica was in the right hallway, and Foxy was still in his cove. It's the mischievous duo's turn. I took a moment to glance at the power percentage and time. I had 40 percent left, and it was 3:30 AM. I lost 59% in a span of about 4 hours. That alone tells me something isn't right. Am I really losing that much power? how much juice does the generator really have?

Metallic animatronic footsteps captured my attention as they came from both sides of the office. Freddy was still present, so I knew I didn't need to close the right door, but I did need to close the left one. I quickly closed the left door before Bonnie arrived. Both Chica and Bonnie were at my doors, staring at me with malice. I looked at the power percentage to find it had gone down to 35 percent, and it was draining quickly. It is 4 AM. The usage bar showed 4 bars being used—it was in the red. Aside from the doors, what could be using power? I looked around the office to find some clues. The only electrically powered items in the office were the TVs on top of the table, the fan, and the tablet. The office wall connected the tablet to an outlet. Will the power usage decrease if I unplug the tablet?

I unplugged the tablet from the outlet. Nothing happened to the tablet. It was still operational. The power usage bar decreased by one unit and returned to a yellow status. Nice! I turned my attention back to doors. I checked the left door first—Bonnie was not present. I opened it. I did the same to the right door—Chica was also absent. Before I opened the door, I checked the camera for Freddy. Freddy was no longer in the corner of the hall. I opened the right door—relieved that the power can finally rest at last.

de de dum dum de dum dum do do...

Shit... I forgot about Foxy. I quickly flipped the camera to display Foxy's cove. Unexpectedly, the familiar pitter-patter came rushing. I barely had enough time to switch the camera to see Foxy running down the hall. I rushed to the door and pressed the red button to close it. The door didn't close. It made an error sound when I pressed it. I pushed it multiple times, even going as far as hitting it several times. It wouldn't budge. I checked the power percentage and found it was at 20 percent. I had plenty of power still. By the time I turned back to the door controls, it was already too late.

With a bewildering scream, Foxy lunged at me, knocking me down. I crossed my arms in front of me defensively as I went down with a thud. Foxy sat on top of me and raised his sharp metal hook. He swung his hook down, aiming for my head. I grasp his hook using both hands just in time. The animatronic had overwhelming strength. The hook slowly came down as the fatigue settled in. I squinted my eyes in hopelessness. I looked into Foxy's single, piercing silver eye that glinted in anger. His cracked jaw moved with lust for blood. I closed my eyes fully and embraced where I was.

This is it. I'm going to die...
