Effect: Imprisoned within a unique space, unable to leave.
Restriction: Applies only to intelligent beings traveling from the Dark Continent to Lake Mobius.
This power helped Overlord counteract the curse but left him completely trapped, stripped of his freedom.
Was this a stroke of luck, or misfortune?
He tried every ounce of his strength but couldn't break free from the restriction. It was as if his immense power was meaningless within this space.
Left with no alternatives, Overlord—isolated and furious—began cursing Kamamo and the Gatekeeper daily, if only to remind himself of his existence.
Time passed—years, decades, perhaps centuries. The undead bone demons like Overlord live unnaturally long lives, but even so, his spirit began to decay.
And then, after what felt like an eternity, the first human adventurers appeared.
Though they were relatively strong by human standards, they were no match for Overlord, who hailed from the Dark Continent. He easily overwhelmed them.
For the first time in ages, Overlord found distraction from his solitude. From the adventurers, he learned the lingua franca of the Six Continents and uncovered peculiar items capable of dispelling grudges.
(T/N: The lingua franca a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different.)
These discoveries reignited his hope—perhaps humans might possess the means to help him escape this eternal prison.
At the same time, Overlord learned more about the outside world:
The Six Continents The Hunter Association The V5 Coalition
To Overlord, humans were weak, feeble creatures. Yet, they had claimed what he saw as paradise—a rich and safe world known as the Six Continents.
In his eyes, the Six Continents were heaven compared to the harsh Dark Continent.
Yet humans, with all their flaws, ruled this paradise. Worse, they waged countless wars, driven by greed for even more.
"Why?" Overlord seethed.
"How can humans live in such comfort while we, the undead bone demons, are cursed and exiled?"
His envy and disdain for humanity grew. He resolved to lead his kind out of their prison and claim the paradise they deserved.
For decades—perhaps centuries—Overlord devised a plan. He began spreading rumors about his domain:
Tales of secret treasures Claims of a gateway to the Dark Continent
Humans, ever eager to explore and conquer, were drawn to these rumors like moths to flame.
Adventurers came in droves, only to meet their end at Overlord's hands. Most were too weak to entertain him, though he occasionally found some challenge in members of the V5's exploration teams.
Still, despite his victories, Overlord could not escape. Each new group brought hope—and disappointment.
Over time, the flow of adventurers dwindled. Overlord's domain became infamous, deterring all but the most foolhardy.
Just as impatience gnawed at him, a new group of adventurers arrived—better equipped than most.
Initially, Overlord dismissed them as yet another source of fleeting amusement. But this time, humanity surprised him.
As Overlord toyed with the adventurers and began slaughtering them, one of them produced a violin and played a haunting melody.
To Overlord's shock, the music amplified the player's strength while sapping his own.
More importantly, the melody caused the boundaries of his prison to waver—an unprecedented event.
Realizing the significance, Overlord quickly subdued the musician. Searching his possessions, Overlord discovered an ominous sheet of music: a piece of the Sonata of Darkness.
Overlord then turned his attention to the remaining adventurers. Among them, one possessed a rare Nen ability:
Nen: Field of Sound
Effect: Detects information based on the timbre and pitch of voices. Can record, amplify, and replay sounds.
Restriction: Ineffective if the sound is muffled or altered by machines like voice changers.
This ability allowed the user to replicate and amplify the Sonata of Darkness. With the power of two sonatas at his disposal, Overlord saw a glimmer of hope.
Unfortunately for the adventurers, their strength and the Sonata of Darkness's power were no match for Overlord's undead army and his peak combat prowess.
As the adventurers fell one by one, Overlord forced the musician to play the Sonata of Darkness again, amplifying the sound to reverberate throughout the canyon.
Though this briefly destabilized the prison's boundary, the Sonata of Darkness's backlash took a toll on the musicians. Both were ensnared by the Sonata's dark energy, immobilized as if bound by invisible chains.
Their inability to move rendered them helpless. Worse, the undead bone demons—who feed on resentment and death—had no use for feeding living humans.
With no food and no way to escape, the two adventurers ultimately succumbed to starvation.
Overlord, once again alone, fell into despair. Even with humanity's ingenuity and power, his prison remained unbroken.
