"Choose the Secret treasure-level Pokémon items you want before you leave!"
Before Chris left the office, Stephen handed him a tablet.
Through this device, Chris could browse the Pokémon items in the official repository and select three Secret treasure-level Items.
The government's resources were truly impressive.
Hundreds of Secret treasure-level Pokémon items—rare in the outside world—were displayed on the screen!
Looking through them, Chris could barely contain his excitement.
He needed to choose carefully.
When he returned to his seat, his fried dough stick was gone.
Chris glanced at Eliana, but the girl pretended not to notice.
In retaliation, Chris snatched the brown sugar bread she hadn't eaten yet. The girl shot him an annoyed look and scribbled a protest note.
Chris ignored her, munching on the brown sugar bread while selecting the Secret treasure-level items he wanted.
When choosing items, he needed to consider what he already had and what he lacked.
First was equipment for his main Pokémon.
In his primary team, Tyranitar had Smooth Rock, and when it finished absorbing that, Chris planned to give it the "Larvitar Ribbon."
Garchomp carried Landorus's Treasure, but as a legendary item, it couldn't be absorbed, while the previous Secret treasure-level "Dragon Fang" had already been consumed. He could acquire another dragon treasure for Garchomp to absorb during normal training.
Gardevoir currently held a Gracidea, which like Landorus's Treasure couldn't be absorbed, so he also wanted to obtain a Psychic or Fairy-type Secret treasure for it.
Thinking about it, Gardevoir hadn't yet absorbed any Secret treasure-level items.
As his current trump card, its priority was higher than his other Pokémon.
Gyarados wore a Rain Veil but had never consumed a Secret treasure-level item.
Greninja had "Kings Rock," which it hadn't absorbed yet, so that could wait.
Finally, there was Blaziken, which currently held nothing, as its previous Charcoal had been consumed.
Four Pokémon in his main team lacked Secret treasure-level items to absorb.
Unfortunately, he could only select three Secret treasures at present.
Chris's plan was:
Provide a Psychic Secret treasure for Gardevoir.
Give Gyarados something that enhanced Water or Flying types.
He'd heard that Pokémon had limits to how many Secret treasures they could absorb, varying by species.
But since these two had never absorbed Secret treasure-level items, they needed to be prioritized.
For the third Secret treasure, Chris quickly selected the dragon item with the highest value, intending it for Garchomp.
Given the opportunity to choose, it made sense to take the most valuable option.
With his priorities established, Chris began searching through the Pokémon Investigators' repository.
First, he sought a Dragon-type Secret treasure. Due to the rarity of Dragon-type items, there were only two available in the entire official collection.
Chris chose the one better suited for Garchomp:
Battle Armor·Dragon Fang: Increases Dragon-type move power by 40%, provides a 50% chance to raise user's Defense and Special Defense during physical attacks, and reduces damage from super-effective moves by 33%.
Chris recalled that Garchomp's previous dragon Secret treasure was called Crackling Dragon Fang. Its effect was: increases Dragon-type move power by 40%, provides a 30% chance to lower opponent's Defense during physical attacks, and enhances weather-based bonuses.
One lowered the opponent's Defense, while the other raised the user's defenses.
If Garchomp could possess both abilities simultaneously, it would be formidable both offensively and defensively!
"I wonder if Garchomp can absorb two Secret treasure-level items?" Chris pondered hopefully.
He'd place the order first—if Garchomp couldn't absorb it, he could save it for a future pokemon.
The second item was for Gardevoir's Psychic abilities.
Psychic-type items were few, only seven in total. Chris selected the one most suitable for Gardevoir:
Mysterious·Twisted Spoon: Increases Psychic-type move power by 40%, enhances Calm Mind's effect, and strengthens Future Sight.
This treasure's effect was straightforward—primarily improving "Calm Mind" and "Future Sight."
The enhancement to Calm Mind wasn't just about improving Special Attack in battle. During training, a better Calm Mind effect meant Gardevoir's Special Attack would develop more rapidly.
As for Future Sight, Chris had always envisioned Gardevoir not as a pure attacker.
Psychic-types were known for their utility, with Teleport and Future Sight being particularly impressive moves.
Therefore, Chris hoped that while improving Gardevoir's offensive capability, both Teleport and Future Sight would be enhanced. During the border operation, Future Sight had proven extremely valuable.
Unfortunately, the repository didn't offer any items that specifically enhanced Teleport. Otherwise, Chris might have selected that instead.
Lastly came the Secret treasure selection for Red Gyarados.
He wanted something that enhanced either Water or Flying attributes.
There were more options for these types.
Chris positioned Red Gyarados as a pure attacker, so the Secret treasure's attributes should complement this role.
Among the various effects available, Chris finally settled on a Water-type Secret treasure called "Thousand Armies·Mystic Water."
Thousand Armies·Mystic Water: Increases Water-type move power by 40% and increases the weight of water used in Water-type moves. This weight increase scales with the Pokémon's Attack stat.
Increased water weight.
When Chris saw this ability, the move that immediately came to mind was "Surf."
Surf's attack method involved striking opponents with massive waves!
If the water's weight increased, even by just 10%, it would effectively boost the power of Surf's summoned waves by that amount!
Chris suspected the effect wouldn't be so modest, especially since the increase correlated with the Pokémon's Attack stat.
He decided to let Gyarados test it out.
The method would be simple: have Gyarados expel one liter of water before equipping Thousand Armies·Mystic Water, then again afterward, and compare the weight difference.
Additionally, moves like Hydro Pump derived much of their damage from impact force.
Increasing the water's weight would enhance these Water moves' power to a significant extent.
He just wondered—would the heavier water flow create any burden for the Pokémon itself?
