Kiera paused for a moment.
She finally made up her mind and said directly, "Actually, Grandma hasn't forgotten you… My medicine works really well, she…"
"I know."
Lewis responded with those three words, cutting Kiera off mid-sentence, leaving her slightly stunned.
"You know?"
"Yeah." Lewis lowered his head and gave a bitter smile, "Don't you remember? Grandma used to have Alzheimer's. Every time she had an episode, the only person she would recognize was me. She once said she would never forget me."
Kiera froze in place.
Instinctively, Lewis reached into his pocket, wanting to light a cigarette, but he paused and withdrew his hand. He looked out the window at the dark clouds in the distance.
