'What is going on?' Leah asked herself, slightly dazed. The nurse had helped her back to her room minutes ago, but she barely registered anything.
She thought it was a hallucination the first time, but then she asked the nurse, and her eyes were not messing with her. She had somehow ended up in someone else's body after her accident.
'Was this some weird dream?' It certainly did not feel like one to her. So, was that woman from earlier right? Was she her daughter now? Had she somehow taken hostage of someone's body like a vengeful spirit?
That woman called her child, like she was her mother. She was most likely in the body of her daughter after all; it made sense for her to think that she was her daughter.
There was nothing hanging in the walls of the room. In fact, apart from the bed and the small sofa, there was nothing else here, and she really had to know what was going on around her, and if this situation was permanent.
The thought of not knowing what was going on around her made her nervous. She was afraid the doctors and anyone else she told would think she was crazy if she said anything.
Would she return to her original body? Or would she die for good? Both options were very unappealing to her. She did not want to die, and returning to her old body likely meant that Aiden would find her again. The mere thought of that monster made her shudder.
She would do anything to be free of him.
With the thought of Aiden Ji, another thought settled in her mind. With a new body, did it mean she was finally free from him? Subconsciously, tears fell from her face. She covered her face with her palms and sighed amidst her tears.
Could she finally live a free and carefree life? It felt too good to be true. She could not allow herself become too happy prematurely. What if she did and she woke up locked up in that house again? No that would be too cruel. Wouldn't that mean that like with everyone else, the gods liked to play with her too?
She shook her head vigorously. No, no. she had to believe that she would be here, at least for a little while.
If it was true that she was in someone else's body, she had to accept that fact, not that it was difficult for someone like her who wanted nothing more than to escape her life. No one who cared a little could do anything, and all that mattered to everyone else was seeing her down and destroyed.
A cynical smile formed on her face at the thought of her family. She seemed to be at the pinnacle of the world, the envy of many socialites and celebrities alike, but like with everyone else, it was all a front. She worked hard to gain a footing in Xinglin Entertainment, just so maybe her mother would love her, but in hindsight, she was stupid for doing anything for that reason. Her mother thought of nothing but herself, and what would benefit her. She knew all that subconsciously, yet closed her mind to it, like anyone who wanted their love reciprocated would.
She never understood why the only recipient of her mother's love was her stepsister Meyer, but it was so clear to her when it was too late. Meyer was her father's most precious, of course she would side with her to gain the favor of her husband.
Her heart had grown cold long ago, and she thought nothing could ever hurt her any more than living with the indifferent and cold-blooded Song family had dealt her.
She had never been so wrong about anything in her life. That monster took everything else she had and destroyed it. Every dream she had as a child, everything she worked so hard for turned to dust. She could never understand why Aiden hated her so much until much later, when she broke down in front of him from sheer frustration and grief. It was only then that he was satisfied enough to tell her everything.
The memory of that day was still very vivid and etched into her heart. His cold countenance was gone, replaced by extreme satisfaction at seeing her that way.
Leah shook her head and slapped her cheeks. There was no point in thinking about it. She was no longer a part of their lives, and she had to go on with hers.
She could live freely now.
But what was she going to do with herself? She had no idea whose body she had occupied, and what this person did for a living. All she knew was that her name was Hazel, and that her mother seemed concerned about her. She did not even fully know what happened to the original owner of this body.
She had to figure out what was going on around her, so she would know what to do next. But how would she get that information? There was next to nothing here, and she could not possibly ask the woman when she came if she was her mother. The woman was quite worried earlier. What if she grew suspicious?
It would have been so much easier if that was the case though.
She lay down and stared at the ceiling. She had to find a way around this situation. She would keep a low profile for now, so she would know how to behave around everyone.
The first step was to try to get information from the doctor without sounding suspicious. It was also best if she remained silent and listened to what the woman said when she came. That might help her find out more information until she was actually discharged and could do her own digging.
She lay on her bed with a heavy sigh. All that had to wait, it seemed. She just had to be patient. Of course, if this in itself was not just a very vivid dream.
