Buck was willing to risk it, partly because he wanted money, but more so because he believed the Gardener could truly save his life.

Buck had heard of the Gardener's name long ago; to him, the Gardener was mysterious, powerful, like a meteor streaking across the sky, swiftly becoming the new uncrowned king in the underworld.
