"No."
Olivia turned around slowly, her face blank with shock. "Excuse me?"
"I said no," I repeated.
She stared at me like I had grown two heads. "What the hell do you mean, no?"
I met her gaze, my body aching, my ribs burning with every breath I took.
"I mean we are not calling off the marriage."
She laughed like she could not believe what she was hearing.
"And why exactly not?"
"You seem to be forgetting this marriage was a contract for one year, Olivia… we are not cutting it off till then."
"You think now is the time to pull the contract card?" she asked. "After everything you have done? After everything that is happening?"
"It still stands."
"You can't be serious."
"I am."
"God," she hissed, turning away like she could not even look at me. "Of all the things you could say right now…"
"I am sorry," I said, quietly. "I did not expect things to end up like this. But I can't give you a divorce."
She spun back toward me, eyes blazing. "You can't?"
