Dubian Che tucked the reed into his mouth and tried playing a short phrase.
The unfamiliar oboe quickly became an extension of him.
"I'm fine now," he said, removing the reed from his mouth.
The members of the Yunbei Wind Ensemble watched him with shining eyes, except for Kito Chiri sitting next to him. She was staring into space with a contemplative look in her eyes.
"Please play another piece!" Chisako firmly requested.
The sheer beauty of the simple scales was impressive, and in the hands of a skilled player, they truly were magnificent.
"Aren't we supposed to be playing an ensemble?" Dubian Che said.
"It's okay!" A petite girl with her fists clenched and her tiptoes on the ground shouted enthusiastically.
Dubian Che was startled by her fervor and thought for a moment, "Well, a short piece should be fine for now."
A few basic exercises spread slowly from the oboe, producing a heart-fluttering, goosebump-inducing timbre that penetrated the entire music room.
