The more they reminisced about those beautiful times, the harder it was for the Elves to tolerate the Merfolk's desecration of their faith.

"It was the Merfolk who first betrayed God, and also forsaken the ancient covenant!"
The impassioned Elves could not accept the Merfolk's harsh demands; beneath the Holy Scripture, they could not accept the daughter of an unknown Divine as their deity.
