Chapter 48 - Working together

Weyland: "Erase all traces that could lead back to us working together."

Weyland says into his small microphone while hiding behind a wall in a dark corner.

He waits for a response, but after a while silence is the only thing he gets.

Weyland: "This is serious; I might get in trouble for it."

He says again, hoping for a response.

???: "Alright, all traces are removed. Are you happy now, Weyland?"

Weyland exhales; finally, he got the response he has been waiting for.

???: "Did you finish your mission?"

Weyland: "Yes, I have successfully hindered of…"

???: "Great, now fall back; your mission is done."

Weyland: "Just to be clear, this was the last time we ever talked. I don't know you, and you don't know me."

???: "Yes, yes, of course."

Weyland: "If not, I will find you."

???: "Is this a threat, Sergeant?"

Weyland: "Depends."

Both fall into silence. Weyland becomes angry, but he is able to keep it down.

???: "It was nice to have known you."

Weyland: "Whatever."

Weyland drops the microphone to the ground, followed by him stomping on it, breaking it into pieces.

Weyland then leaves the corner, making sure that his metal arm is hidden before walking out of the town.

Jack: "Here's the plan. He has the map, and we have the ship and materials to get us there. Why don't we work together?"

Emilia: "First of all, didn't you two fight?"

Ichiro: "He literally threw me off the ship; I can't trust him."

Emilia: "Exactly, and we have little to no information about him, while he knows a lot about us."

Manu chuckles a little; he finds the little argumentation the group has funny.

Manu: "I am an ICD agent. I know you guys won't trust me, but we all have a reason to go there and beat those guys up, right?"

Henry: "He is right; that guy has been terrorizing us for a long time now. I don't mind working together with him."

Jack: "That bounty has been a burden for way too long."

Emilia looks at Jack and Henry in disbelief; she then shakes her head, not understanding their thought process.

Emilia: "Jack, you hardly trust people, and now you say we should work together with someone that attacked you out of nowhere?"

Jack: "If he were one of them, wouldn't he be after that stupid stone?"

Manu: "Stone?"

The group falls into silence; they hadn't explained their full situation.

Manu: "What stone? Wait, why do you guys even want to go to Transylvania?"

No one responds to Manu; silence had fallen over the ship.

Manu: "Guys, you can trust me."

Ichiro: "I don't know if we can."

Ichiro, still angry at Manu that he threw him off the ship, is siding with Emilia.

Ichiro: "I say we can get there without him."

Jack: "And I say we should use his help."

Emilia: "How can you even trust him, Jack? What is your plan?"

Confused by Jack, Emilia tries to find out what his plan is. She knows that Jack wouldn't just trust him for no reason at all.

Jack: "Why don't we do a vote?"

Emilia: "Alright, whoever is against having him on board should raise their hands."

Emilia raises her hand; she looks around for who else has raised their hands. She and Ichiro are the only ones who did.

Emilia: "Lenny? He attacked you too. You are smart; why do you guys even trust him?"

Lenny: "I know, but I always decide to go with my big brother. That's how we survived."

Emilia shakes her head again; she walks to her quarters without a word.

Ichiro walks up to Manu; he stares him in his eyes.

Ichiro: "I hope we can trust you."

He then leaves to go to his quarters too.

Henry, Lenny, Jack, and Manu are the only ones remaining on the deck.

Manu sighs; he wipes the sweat away from his head.

Manu: "And I thought you guys would kick me out."

Jack: "Don't make me regret this."

Manu: "Sorry, but why do you trust me in the first place?"

Jack: "I heard stories about the silver flash, and Emilia was right with one thing: I don't trust you; I am just using you."

Manu: "I can live with that."

After a while the sun slowly goes down. Weyland had been walking for a while now.

Suddenly he stops. He notices the person in a hood standing before him.

He knows that this person isn't just a friendly bystander; that person came for him.

Weyland: "And here I thought we had settled everything."

???: "You know why I'm here?"

The mysterious person says with a voice full of energy.

Weyland: "The hood, the black metal bottom attached to it, but here I thought HE would send someone higher than the number 6."

???: "HE didn't send me, ya know? And you should be feeling honored that 6 is the one coming for you."

Weyland: "If HE didn't send you, then who did?"

???: "Why would I tell you?"

Weyland: "The Border-baron, I didn't know someone of your caliber would go around and do jobs for him."

???: "I'm not taking orders from that prick; see this as a thing between old friends."

Weyland: "So HE didn't send you."

???: "You are nothing but a puzzle piece for HIM; why would he care about your life?"

Weyland: "Maybe because I am a burden to your organization, I have been causing trouble for you guys for a long time now."

???: "You have done nothing; your actions have gone unnoticed for a reason—they haven't stopped anything."

Weyland gets angry; he goes into a fighting stance, revealing his metal arm.

Weyland: "After all, it is only the number 6 I have to take on."

???: "Yes, that's what I like about pricks like you, but I thought you would know that we aren't listed by strength."

He says with a long smile, revealing his sharp teeth.

Weyland: "And I thought you would know that I am not an easy fight."
