From my understanding, Klein Gantrow was a smart and logical man who did everything rationally. Sure, he wasn't the strongest in Seman's army but his rational mind and strategies made up for it.
He had the most wins or more accurately, satisfying battle reports than anyone in Seman's army. So he in fact is the second most important person in Seman's group… second to Nance who not only is the strongest but also the second in command.
