Within an hour Chara could hear her Father's parade of knights preparing for his arrival, she and Marvo stood in Vlad's office with Ichabod standing over Marvo to protect him from any possible harm, apparently unaware he was soon destined for freedom as Chara looked at his aura, like many docile looking slaves, he was daydreaming about killing her, Vlad, and Marvo with King, although she imagined Marvo would soon be sided with King joining in the imaginary ass kicking.
Vlad's Office was on the uppermost level of the Colosseum, a messy room with a massive oak table that Vlad was sitting behind, looking through the massive pile of letters, only growing larger as a tiered-looking slave continued to bring in more.
In response to more mail, Vlad struck the slave across the mouth, he desperately rushed out the door once he got to his feet, knowing no matter what he did Vlad was likely to hit him again for any reason given.
Soon the door to Vlad's office opened and in entered both her father King Connor Elizabeth and the very same brother who had struck her the previous day Eric Elizabeth, his mind was still clouded with what he would do to his sister if he got the chance, having long since assured himself that since they didn't share a mother it was fine to take her as his concubine when the opportunity finally arrived.
"I told you this was a waste of effort," Eric said as soon as he opened the door, directing his words to his sister, "You are nothing but a problem, someone needs to whip that bleeding heart of yours into shape, and I've just about had it with waiting, maybe I should-"
Connor slapped his son into silence, and Chara could tell he was about to slap her to as he approached, Ichabod following Marvo's orders stood between them with a simple warning to Connor.
"My collar only activates if I hit people who don't have one or haven't hit me," he told the King, "I suggest you walk on by sir," Connor lowered his hand as Marvo took up the space between Chara and the King from the other side.
"What has my daughter done now?" He demanded "Here just one day and already made a mess of-"
"I did nothing wrong," Chara said firmly.
"You will follow your brother as he escorts you home," Connor hissed back, "I'll punish you properly when-"
"No," Chara said firmly, her father and brother glaring at her, "I did nothing wrong,"
"Sir let her stay," Vlad said with a puff, "I think with the proper punishment, overseen by me, she can make up for this mess she has-"
"I didn't fucking do anything," Chara said as her voice quivered with rage, as she so rarely cared to defend herself, a third proclamation of innocent was all she needed to sway the King that something was amiss.
"What happened," He demanded.
"Well if you look to the note I-"
"Not you," Connor said with a venomous tone as he turned to the only other person he knew the be in the spectator's box, "Marvo," He said in a far friendly tone than any other had ever heard from him, almost like he was prepared the grovel if the man requested it, "my dearest friend, you have never been one to steer me wrong, did you by chance see what happened?"
"Oh it was a glorious shit show," Marvo laughed back, "let me tell you, that man of yours might need to learn a bit of history," Connor looked somewhat confused for just a moment before Marvo finished his thought, "Tried to make a Kent Carterson out of me,"
The King's entire body seize up momentarily before he slowly looked back at Vlad, he laughed, a sweet laugh, a friendly laugh, the laugh Vlad had heard many times before the King ordered an execution.
"Vlad," he said as he put his hands on the desk, "Vladie, my old friend, my dearest confidant," King walked around the desk and up to Vlad as he set his hand on the man's shoulder, "Did you threaten a Merchant?"
"Well sir," Vlad swallowed a lump in his throat, "Technically I wasn't able to properly vocalize the threat so I didn't really threaten him," Connor looked at Vlad, and chuckled.
"Oh I see, he…he stopped you before you could make the threat then, yeah?" Connor asked as he seemed to inspect the mail on Vlads desk.
"Yes sir, I was just-" Connor turned and Punched Vlad, who flopped towards the ground, barely managing to catch himself on the desk.
"Are you stupid!" Connor demanded, "Are you?" Vlad gave no answer and Connor gave him a swift kick before walking away in outrage, "It was barely more than thirty years ago when the Country of Poales, destined to be the world's next major superpower, was left in ruins when the King, having only just taken his deceased fathers place, cut off the head of the Merchant Kent Carterson and sent it to the Merchant's guild headquarters in the country of Emmer, demanding they comply with his list of demands that Kent had denied,"
Connor sighed as he looked out the window, "Turns out it's hard to make demands of a group that had major affiliations and members on every continent, humans may be genetically and physically superior that every other race," Chara glanced over to Ichadob, who looked back at her when he saw her trying not to chuckle at the statement, Her imaginary death became less drawn out in response.
"But that can only take you so far when hundreds of countries who let those disgusting affronts to nature walk free set up ships and armed forces to set up an embargo on all fronts, any goods could leave Poales, but nothing, not even gold, was allowed back in, The King was dead within a month,"
Chara was interested as to what happened next, but already knew that Connor had recited the part he most cared about, "I will not end up dead because you can't keep your shit together, Fix this mess, or I'll throw you into the ring with that Elf and an aphrodisiac and see if you're an 'elf lover',"
Without so much as a look in her direction, her Father made his way out of the room, calling back as he did so, "Eric help Vlad and your Sister fix this,"
"Of course Father," Eric said as the door shut, "Now, let's make it easy, I'm told the King has a high regard for his little slaves, so we'll just strike the rule about him being allowed to keep them and make him watch as their disposed of, moral crushed, too sad to fight, blah-blah all your problems are fixed you're welcome,"
"That's a stupid plan," Chara replied without hesitation, Eric rolled his eyes as she spoke, "In case you didn't listen or Vlad forgot to mention it, King broke his anti-magic cuffs because Vlad ignored the basic rules of the Colosseum, I fail to see how, let's do the exact thing again but worse, is going to fix anything,"
"Yes sister the big bad elf is scary," Eric waved her off, "Vlad collect the two women and this King, I'll just snap their necks and be done with this crap,"
"Yeah no," Vlad replied without hesitation, Eric looked back and Vlad offered a compromise, "Why don't you fight him? Unless you also think the big bad elf is scary,"
"Whatever, bring him to the arena so I can end this,"
"Oh, this I will enjoy," Chara, Marvo, and Ichabod followed Eric out as Vlad stayed in his office to try and placate the nobles he had enraged.
Once Eric was out of sight, Chara turned to Marvo and handed him the envelope she had promised him in exchange for making sure her father knew Vlad was to blame.
"Sorry Captain, Marvo shook his head, "Old Connor did what he always does, cut me off at the start, tell a story of his own, then leave,"
"It's fine," She said as Marvo took the envelope before adding, "Now hurry, you and Ichabod have a boat to catch and only two days to get there,"
"Right," Marvo had asked for a letter of recommendation from the Royal Family for immediate travel to elf country, his cover story was that he was testing if a Giant might help him get a good haul, in truth he was meeting a group of 'bandits' who where going to rob him blind, and take Ichabod with them to start his new life free of chains, "Come on we gotta get moving you, big palooka,"
Marvo and Ichabod began walking away, and out of curiosity Chara said one last thing, "Have fun Ichabod," She called to him, he looked back at her suspiciously, "I hope you like wherever they take you," Seeing he didn't understand her words Chara walked away, taking solace that the Giant might realize that his escape had been orchestrated.
