U.A. Training Field Gamma – Combat Coordination Drill, Period 3
The training field buzzed with energy. Steel walls, shifting terrain, and hidden obstacles created a simulated urban environment. Today's goal? Coordination with non-standard hero types. And standing like a massive monument of twitching tendrils and golden-eyed muscle was: Nyxia.
He loomed silently, framed by the rising smoke of simulated destruction, waiting patiently as Class 1-A gathered in a semi-circle around Aizawa.
"Your task is simple," Aizawa said, barely concealing a smirk. "Coordinate with Nyxia. Survive. Complete the objective. Learn something."
Bakugo folded her arms, growling.
"Tch. This guy can barely talk. How the hell are we supposed to coordinate?"
Midoriya, already scribbling frantically, whispered, "He communicates through body gestures and limited writing. But I think he also responds to emotional energy like intent and urgency."
Iida nodded sharply.
"Then we must be exceptionally clear in our intentions! Treat this as an exercise in adaptive teamwork!"
Pairings appeared on the digital screen:
Midoriya & Nyxia – Rescue Scenario
Bakugo & Nyxia – Target Subdual
Uraraka & Nyxia – Structural Collapse Response
Todoroki & Nyxia – Fire Containment Drill
Aoyama & Nyxia – ??? (glitched text)
ROUND ONE: Midoriya & Nyxia
Smoke billowed through simulated city blocks. A group of civilian dummies were trapped inside a half-collapsed building.
Midoriya, eyes wide, turned to Nyxia. "We need to get through this debris and rescue the civilians without causing further collapse!"
Nyxia tilted his monstrous head, processing.
Then, with a precise movement, he extended a single gorilla arm, gently tapping Midoriya's shoulder and pointing toward the weakest support column.
Midoriya gasped. "You understand structural physics?! You can see the stress points?!"
Nyxia gave a thumbs-up… then used a tendril to carefully stabilize the wall while his other arm scooped civilians out like an expert crane operator.
Objective cleared.
Aizawa muttered into his recorder.
"Better control than some licensed pros…"
ROUND TWO: Bakugo & Nyxia
"Here's the plan, freak," Bakugo snapped, cracking his knuckles. "You stay outta my way, I take out the target."
Nyxia didn't move.
A giant mech target dropped from above.
Bakugo blasted forward and immediately got backhanded by the mech's laser.
Nyxia's gorilla arm shot out like a blur, catching Bakugo midair and slamming the mech into a wall with a tentacle whip.
"…I had it," Bakugo muttered, still in Nyxia's hand.
Nyxia slowly tilted his head again.
Then booped Bakugo's forehead with a tentacle.
Bakugo snarled. "I'LL KILL YOU."
A thumbs-up was his only response.
ROUND THREE: Uraraka & Nyxia
The drill involved lifting debris and keeping a collapsing bridge stable long enough to save a "bus" of civilians.
Uraraka, floating a chunk of concrete, huffed. "I need support to keep the beams stable!"
Nyxia gently coiled a tendril beneath the beam, lifted it with surgical precision, and wrapped another tendril around the structure's weak points, creating a living scaffolding.
Together, they got everyone out.
Uraraka smiled at him, high-fiving a tendril.
"Teamwork, Nyxia! You're awesome!"
Nyxia blinked all his eyes rapidly.
It might have been a blush.
ROUND FOUR: Todoroki & Nyxia
Massive artificial fires roared across a chemical plant sim. Todoroki prepped an ice wave but paused.
"Too much ice could cause a pressure buildup."
Nyxia gently pushed him back with a tendril, stepped forward, and opened his void-mass chest cavity.
A blast of cold, extinguished the fire entirely. Cold mist shimmered as Todoroki stared.
"…He just manipulated the cold," he muttered.
Nyxia offered him a small pebble… that had frozen into a tiny snowflake sculpture.
BONUS ROUND: Aoyama & Nyxia
Objective:Confuse the staff.
Aoyama struck a pose.
"Mon ami Nyxia! It is time to dazzle them with our elegance!"
Nyxia slowly moved behind him and formed… a flower crown made of writhing code-tendrils.
Aoyama fainted in pure joy.
Later, back in the viewing room…
Nezu watched the feed, sipping tea.
"He's adapting faster than we anticipated."
Aizawa nodded.
"He's learning their rhythms. Feeling emotions. Not just copying them. He's becoming part of the class."
Nezu smiled.
"Then perhaps soon… the world will see not a monster… but a hero."
After the rigorous training session with Class 1-A, Nyxia lumbered silently down the reinforced corridor connecting the Hero Course building to the Support Department. His massive form cast long, twitching shadows each golden eye blinking and scanning curiously as he moved. The hallway had been widened for his passage… reinforced recently with adamant plating after he tore through a vending machine by accident last week.
He paused in front of the lab door labeled:
🔧 "SUPPORT DEPARTMENT – CUSTOM GEAR DESIGN"
Authorized Entry Only
Then, as if summoned, the door exploded open with a whomp of smoke and a chaotic burst of sparks.
Mei Hatsume, wild-eyed and grinning like a woman on the edge of invention-induced mania, stood there in a soot-streaked apron, goggles pushed to her forehead.
"NYXIA! You're here!! Ohhhhhh, I've been waiting to get my hands on you"
Nyxia tilted his monstrous head.
One eye blinked.
Then another.
Then a dozen blinked in unison.
"I MEAN your biomechanical readings, not your you-you. Don't worry, I'm professional. Mostly."
Nyxia raised a tentacle and wrote quickly on the whiteboard strapped to his forearm:
"I don't need gear."
Mei blinked.
Then laughed. "Wrong! You don't need conventional gear. But you're being sent out with public heroes. With civilians. With people who don't understand you."
She zipped around him like a blur, measuring tendrils, tapping voidstone-like plates on his limbs, and scribbling notes furiously.
"We're not trying to weaponize you. You're already that. We're trying to interface you."
Nyxia paused.
Then wrote:
"…Explain."
Mei clapped her hands, activating a hologram that flickered into view. It showed:
A holographic display mounted on his shoulder, translating his gestures into simple messages (e.g. Rescue in progress, Remain calm, Stand back).
A field beacon that emits a friendly signal to ally hero support units, preventing accidental attacks.
A set of aesthetic modulations small, harmless lights along his body that pulse with calming blue light when civilians are nearby.
And lastly… a custom collar engraved with a chime that plays soothing tones when his emotional state spikes. "It's called the 'Gentle Giant Protocol.'"
Mei grinned.
"Because the more people can understand you… the more they'll trust you."
Nyxia's gaze lingered on the hologram.
Then, he pulled out a folded drawing from his side pouch something Marisov gave him before he left Evolto. It was crude but cute: a drawing of Nyxia holding hands with Class 1-A, surrounded by flowers and sunshine.
He slowly nodded.
Mei's grin turned proud.
"Let's make you seen, big guy."
Later that evening, as Nyxia returned to his dorm, several students noticed:
A small light-halo blinked softly from his left shoulder.
A new digital panel near his wrist displayed short words: "Good evening", "Nice effort in training today", and "I'm happy to be here."
Uraraka waved. "Nyxia, is that new?"
Nyxia blinked then held up his wrist.
"Thank you for being my friends."
As the sun dipped behind the skyline, casting long golden rays over U.A. High, the students of Class 1-A filtered out of the massive front gate. Chatter filled the air complaints about the upcoming end-of-term exam, excitement about study groups, and the usual laughter and teasing that came after a long day.
Midoriya: "We should meet at the dorm study hall around 6, right?"
Iida: "Indeed! Let's review the basics and support each other as true classmates should!"
Bakugo: "Tch. I'm not babysitting extras."
Kirishima: "C'mon, man! It'll be fun. You can yell at the books instead of us!"
Laughter erupted again.
But as they moved toward the city, someone looked back Yaoyorozu and nudged the others.
"Look…"
Standing near the gate massive, still, quiet was Nyxia.
His monstrous frame loomed over the entrance, but his presence wasn't frightening. Far from it. With a pair of comically tiny glasses still balanced on his snout, Nyxia gently waved one of his massive gorilla arms at the class as they departed.
The golden eyes on his chest blinked warmly.
One of his tentacles raised a sign, like a polite traffic message:
"Good luck on your studies!"
(Little smiley face drawn next to it)
Uraraka giggled. "Awww, he's such a sweetheart."
Sero: "He looks like a kaiju substitute teacher waving off a field trip."
Todoroki, quietly: "I find it… comforting."
Ashido spun around and waved enthusiastically. "Bye, Nyxiaaaa!"
As the students disappeared down the road, Nyxia remained at the gate, watching them go.
The wind rustled the trees behind him.
His tentacles curled slightly in contentment.
Even though he could barely speak... even though he came from a world of code, chaos, and memory
For the first time in a long while,
he felt like a classmate.
