Kane's voice thundered in my skull, furious and protective. I didn't think I just moved.
The door flung open beneath my grip like it had been waiting for me. There Blake stood just behind her, arms half-raised as if unsure whether to comfort or walk away. His scent screamed hesitation.
That feeling came into my head immediately, seeing them together. I don't want to see him with her, not just him but any other man. I want to be the one to be the cause of her happiness no one else.
"Back off," I growled, my voice barely human.
Emma looked up, startled, her eyes wide and unfocused, as though she wasn't sure if I was a savior or a threat. That did something to me.
I scooped her up without a word, her body far too light in my arms. She didn't fight me. That silence… that's what scared me most.
The door slammed shut behind us. I didn't wait.
