Chapter 52 - MHA : Chapter 52 : The Race II

Aizawa grunted, and Peter could feel the man rolling his eyes even from his place in the air.

"Annoying."

...

Peter saw a flying camera zoom in on him, he looked at it mid-air and placed his hand over his heart in a mocking manner while making his lenses portray a hurt expression.

As Peter flew forwards, he switched hands and shot yet another web toward the closet 0-P's head, and started to swing again.

The line connected in the distance, and Peter swung forward what must've been 50 feet before his spider-sense started to blare in his ears.

He frantically shot a web with his free hand and pulled himself to the side just in time to dodge a giant glacier piercing its way through everything in its path.

Now coated in a thick layer of frost, every single robot in sight stood still and rocked dangerously, the creaking of their joints trying to move sounded through the stadium as the crowd went quiet before it started to cheer louder.

Holy shit.

Who the hell does that!? The robots could fall now if a light breeze came by!

"Woah! Looks like Parker's progress has been put on ice by none other than Shoto Todoroki! We can see that others in the front of the crowd have taken advantage of this and sprung forward!"

" While incredibly reckless, Todoroki has carefully frozen the robots as to impede movement from other students, mainly targeting Parker in this strategy. "

Todoroki did all of this just to screw him over?

What a dick.

He thought they bonded over that talk on the roof!

Peter rocketed to the ground, barely able to cushion his fall with the frozen mass of a 1-P below him.

Ow.

Shaking off the cold, Peter turned around while unsteady rising to his feet to see Todoroki rocket past him.

After him came Bakugo and Nejire, then came Iida before Rumi bounced by.

"Later, loser!" She laughed as Peter tried to ignore the soreness in his limbs.

Looking over the frozen robots, it was obvious that if he tried to swing on them they would collapse and potentially hurt others.

Guess he was doing this on foot now.

Great, just when he was starting to have fun!

Shaking his head, Peter started to sprint forwards while flicking his wrist and pushing out used cartridges, reaching into his jacket and pulling out new ones.

"Hey, Peter!" A sheepish voice called from beside him, Peter turned his head while letting his spider-sense guide him as to not crash into anything and let out a chuckle.

Riding a green board that hovered a few inches off the ground was none other than Izuku Midoriya, the bit equipped with red gauntlets, goggles along with a green tactical vest.

Peter had to admit, he looked pretty cool.

"Hey, man! How's it going?" Peter dodged to the side to avoid a toppling 2-P, with Izuku dodging to the left before the two met back up.

"G-Great! I've been working on this hoverboard for about a m-month but got it working yesterday! W-Wanna hitch a r-ride? That fall you took looked pretty rough."

Thinking about it, Peter noted that the board was keeping pace with him and how they were still about 50 feet away from the front of the race.

Also, he was in quite a bit of pain right now.

Like, quite a bit.

Wordlessly, Peter hopped onto the hoverboard and stuck to it by his feet, sighing in relief at the chance to take a breather for a bit.

"Thanks, McFly. Let's go!"

As the two teens tailed the front runners, Peter couldn't help but grin at how far his friend had come when it came to tech.

He couldn't help but feel proud of him.

"Uh, McFly? Is that a-another old movie reference?"

Peter frowned, his lenses mimicking his expression as Izuku weaved around the various frozen robots.

Remember when he said he was proud of him?

He takes it back.

"Just go…"

The masked teen leaned to the side just as they exited the robo inferno, his lenses squinting as he looked into the distance of the next obstacle approaching about 100 feet away from them.

A giant chasm with the only thin wires and unstable platforms the only way across.

This whole thing was just one big SAW trap, wasn't it?

"The front runners seem to have made it past the robo inferno and made it to the next obstacle up! The Fall!"

Peter watched as both Todoroki and Iida stopped at the edge of the chasm, Rumi simply started to hop from line to line while Bakugo and Nejire flew across.

Yeah, he wasn't getting outdone.

"Thanks for the ride, but I gotta bounce!" Patting Izuku on the shoulder just as they reached the edge, he gracefully flipped off of the board and shot a web at the nearest pillar that held up a platform.

Pulling himself forward, he turned fo see Izuku grinning at him while Todoroki and Iida held frustrated expressions.

Wait, he got why Todoroki was frustrated, but what did he do to Iida?

Did he make a rival without knowing?

Whatever, he'd figure it out later or something.

Grinning, he dove down onto the chasm and swung up again, flipping when reaching the apex of the swing before shooting another web.

That faint feeling of flying through the New York streets tugged at his heart, it wasn't the same but it wasn't bad either.

Peter flipped through their air while testing his body to go as fast as possible, watching as the ground at the bottom grew closer before it grew farther away as he went up and down.

Landing on a platform, he noted how he was more than halfway through with Nejire and Bakugo still about 40 feet away while Rumi was about 10 feet ahead.

Turning around, he could see multiple people starting to either make it past the robo inferno or already making their way across the canyon.

Todoroki using his ice to slide on the cables and glaring at him, Peter could make out a thin layer of frost starting to cover him, while Iida seemed to struggle to keep balance on a cable while boosting himself with his engines.

If Peter was being honest, he looked super dumb.

Farther back, he could see Izuku jumping from cable to cable on his hoverboard, a look of focus and determination visible through his goggles. Behind him, a girl from 1-B with vines for hair was rushing across, closely followed by Tsu and, incredibly enough, Mei.

Maybe he should focus on other people after he crosses the finish line.

The boy jumped forward and shot a web, picking up momentum as he flew on the line.

"Later, loser!" Peter called as he passed the white-haired girl, laughing out loud as she narrowed her eyes at him as he swung away.

"Oh, fuck off!"

Man, she looked cute when she was mad.

Wait, focus! You gotta win the race! Call her cute later!

The wind blew in his ears as the crowd roared just as he got within 30 feet of Nejire and Bakugo, the girl turning around and widening her eyes while the blonde scowled in rage.

As he passed them, time seemed to move in slow motion as Peter turned around momentarily to face them and watched Bakugo's expression switch from rage to burning hatred.

All of that was directed at him?

Yikes.

Looking over at Nejire, he could see her be impressed but also develop a new drive to do better.

You know what?

Peter respected that.

The boy swung ahead of the two and landed rolling on the other side of the chasm, flicking his wrists and ejecting the now empty cartridges before quickly putting new ones in.

The crowd roared as took off the hood that found its way onto his head during all the flipping he had done, the boy putting his hands on his knees to try and catch his breath.

Man was he tired.

Maybe that whole bunch of sleep deprivation had started to catch up to him.

Just as the sound of screaming and explosion reached his ears, Peter broke off into a sprint while throwing two of his web grenades at the ground, covering it in silk in hopes that it would slow others down.

Ironically enough, it wouldn't slow down the screaming ball of rage capable of creating explosions that was coming for him.

Whatever, he had one more obstacle before he was done with this.

Then he could just lay down.

Hopefully.
