Chapter 493 - Chapter 444: Time Skips to June – Part 2

As in May, Zaboru is releasing two new games—this time, as usual, one for ZEPS and one for ZGB. For ZEPS, the featured title is Little Nemo: The Dream Master. This hidden gem from Zaboru's previous life is a side-scrolling platform adventure. What makes this game stand out is the unique transformation system. When Nemo defeats enemies, he absorbs their traits and transforms into their archetype. For example, beating a frog enemy allows Nemo to morph into a frog and leap great heights; defeating a mole turns him into a mole that can burrow through underground segments. This adds a rich layer of strategy and replayability, as certain secrets and items are only accessible through specific enemy transformations.

And as expected, Zaboru includes a trademark Zabo-man easter egg. In this universe, Zabo-man appears not as a human, but as a humanoid eagle wearing a gray helmet and black coat. If the player defeats him, Nemo gains the ability to transform into the agile and powerful humanoid eagle Zabo-man. This transformation features unique abilities like gliding, double jumps, and a special screech attack.

The response from players is overwhelmingly positive. Fans love how ZAGE consistently introduces new gameplay twists, showing once again that Zaboru's design philosophy thrives on innovation and risk. Players praise the depth of the transformation system, and many think that Little Nemo feels fresh and unique despite its still side-scrolling game.

Next up, for ZGB, is a game called Magical Chase. Also a hidden gem from Zaboru's past life, this title features a young magician who flies through levels on a broom while blasting enemies with spells in a colorful, side-scrolling shoot-'em-up format. The main character, a girl magician with a large hat and flowing robes, gains power-ups like magic stars for increased firepower and shields that block incoming damage. The game allows players to spend accumulated score points to upgrade the magician's stats and tailor their play style to match personal preferences. Among the upgrades available is a selection of specialized brooms, each enhancing either horizontal or vertical speed depending on the player's strategic needs. Additionally, players can purchase elemental wands that imbue her basic attacks with fire, ice, lightning, or wind projectiles—each element affecting enemy behavior and environmental interactions differently. These customizations not only diversify the gameplay but also encourage experimentation, giving players a sense of agency and progression throughout the magical journey.

However, Zaboru heavily modifies this version. Unlike the original, he ramps up the difficulty, making enemy patterns faster and boss fights more aggressive. The game becomes punishingly hard—but also extremely rewarding. Players often rage at certain levels, but those who manage to finish the game unlock exclusive cosmetics for the magician. Upon completion, it's revealed that her name is Hermione Granger. Three unlockable outfits become available: "Skimpy Skin," "High School Skin," and "Sailor Uniform Skin." and many more Players are losing their minds over these unlockable outfits, with many humorously declaring Hermione as their new digital "wife." Unlike most female characters in ZAGE games, who often curvy or mature designs, Hermione's petite stature and cute, innocent charm strike a different chord. Her design appeals to a wide audience, particularly fans who prefer endearing, modest aesthetics.

A Zabo-man easter egg also appears here: in specific stages, a robotic version of Zabo-man—Cyborg Zabo—soars silently across the sky before vanishing in a burst of light. It's a rare sight, but those who notice it can't help but laugh and speculate wildly about what it means.

Meanwhile, in April, Zaboru continued laying groundwork for new arcade and PC games. Although He's already juggling two R&D teams for hardware projects—one developing a steering-wheel-based racing machine, and another working on a dance pad arcade system. But that isn't enough for him. He adds a third arcade project: a high-octane 2D fighter titled Marvel vs. ZAGE.

Inspired by the chaotic fun of Marvel vs. Capcom, this new fighter features 2v2 team-based battles with long jumps, hyper combos, tag-ins, and assist attacks. Zaboru goes all-out: 20 characters from the Marvel universe and 20 from the ZAGE roster. Popular picks like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Magneto square off against Mario, Z-Red, Kenshiro, and new additions like Hermione. Players will be able to chain multi-hit combos and execute flashy finishers. The arcade release is planned for early July and Zaboru also planned a massive ad on TV for this one. And Zaboru already listed which characters that will appear in this first Marvel VS ZAGE

Although Zaboru can't make 100 roosters, for now this 40 character rooster is very robust.

While all of this unfolds, Zaboru discovers a particularly exciting addition to the ZAGE USA team—it's none other than John Romero, the legendary co-founder of id Software in Zaboru's previous life alongisde John Carmack that already ZAGE Employee right now.

In this world, Romero was born in 1970, making him just 24 years old, compared to 1967 in the original timeline. The difference is slight, but Zaboru knows the potential is immense and the timeline in this world is messed up. Recognizing his talent, Zaboru wastes no time officially welcoming Romero to the spotlight within ZAGE USA.

Zaboru is thrilled—not just because Romero is a familiar figure from his past life, but because he believes Romero will thrive in ZAGE's creative and high-pressure environment. Soon, Zaboru plans to present him with a real challenge: in addition to helping port ZEPS games to PC, Romero and other ZAGE USA employee will take charge of a bold new title slated for a June release—The Elder Scroll Arena.

For The Elder Scroll, Zaboru had already laid the foundational design and narrative structure long ago. The concept had been brewing in his mind for months, drawing from both Western RPG traditions and his own vision of a sandbox fantasy world filled with emergent storytelling. Rather than building it entirely on his own, he chose to empower the ZAGE USA team to refine and evolve the game alongside him. With John Carmack and John Romero as ZAGE developers, Zaboru felt incredibly hopeful. He viewed this as the perfect opportunity to elevate the ZAGE USA developers, giving them a defining project that could showcase their talent

Outside of business, Zaboru is also building a life in the USA. He's purchased a spacious two-story house with five bedrooms in a quiet suburb. It's more than just a residence—it's a home base for visiting family. His girlfriend Ayumi and his mother Keiko miss him terribly when he's overseas. So Zaboru invites them to stay for several days . They gladly accept.

Keiko, ever curious and supportive, brings along Zaboru's younger sister, Sanika. Though Sanika can't stay long due to school, she thoroughly enjoys her short trip, finding joy in visiting new places and spending time with her brother and Ayumi. Keiko is equally delighted to be back in the U.S., relishing the change of pace and chance to meet with Zaboru. Sanika, too, is thrilled to be part of the family reunion, even if only briefly. Unfortunately, their visit is cut short—Sanika still has school obligations back in Japan, so they must return sooner than they would like.

Ayumi, on the other hand, decides to stay as long as Zaboru is in the U.S. She's deeply attached to him, often worrying about how hard he works and how much he carries on his shoulders. Whenever he's buried in game design in his house, Ayumi quietly brings him food, massages his shoulders, or simply sits nearby. Her presence is a stabilizing force.

Although she refrains from visiting his office frequently, Ayumi always waits for Zaboru at home, patiently supporting him from a quiet distance. On nights when work keeps him especially late, Zaboru calls her, and without hesitation, she comes to the ZAGE offices to stay with him. Sometimes, they spend the night there together, sharing quiet moments in the stillness of the studio before heading home or they would work together. Ayumi doesn't neglect her own work either. She continues to brainstorm new game ideas and refine her designs whenever she finds the time. A truly passionate game developer, she channels her energy into creativity even during late nights. In fact, she's preparing to release new titles in the coming months in collaboration with her brother Akechi at Akaishidan Studio.

The Osaka Branch is also set to officially open in July. Initially the Osaka branch should open after a month of ZAGE USA branch opening but Zaboru chose to delay the launch slightly to ensure everything is perfectly prepared. He understands the importance of a smooth rollout and sees no need to rush—quality and stability always come first in his book.

With work expanding, his team growing, Zaboru is really happy and more motivated to do more.
