Chapter 111: The Training Room
"Where is this room exactly?" Peter asked while looking around nervously.
"Stop acting so suspicious, Peter. We are not doing anything illegal," Sirius scolded his friend.
"We just have to go up one more floor," James responded. "And don't worry about anyone following us. I'll make sure there is no one around before opening the door."
"Say, James… how did things go with Lily?" Remus asked in a whisper.
"Don't bother, I already asked him about it last night and he didn't say a word about it," Sirius said with a tone of annoyance.
"It depends on what you mean by that question. But I don't think she got bored, at least," James responded.
"You know what I mean…" Remus glanced behind them. Lily and Alice were following just a few steps behind.
"She was very cheerful when she returned and said she had a fun time," Frank commented.
"Come on, Frank. I'm sure Lily told every single detail to Alice, and doesn't your girlfriend share everything with you?" Sirius asked.
Frank chuckled. "Of course not. Are you crazy? And I am too much of a gentleman to push for information that is none of my business."
"Frank is right. And gentleman or not, I wish you would all stop behaving like old gossips," James glared at them with eyes of disapproval. "It does not suit you."
"I was just curious, that's all," Sirius raised his hands.
They continued onto the seventh floor of the castle and followed a corridor until they arrived in front of a large tapestry hanging from the wall.
"Okay, give me a moment," James said to the group.
"Is it here?" Lily looked around, trying to find the entrance to the room James had mentioned.
"Ugh… I hate that tapestry. It always gives me the creeps," Alice frowned.
"I think it's hilarious. Do you think that actually happened?" Sirius chuckled.
All of a sudden, they heard a stranger's voice.
"You mean the trolls wearing tutus? Don't be ridiculous."
"What do you expect from our dear cousin? He is an idiot after all."
"That voice…" Sirius narrowed his eyes.
"You can remove the invisibility. I made sure that no one else is around, but we should hurry to go inside," James told them.
Andromeda and Bellatrix came into view. They were standing on the other side of the tapestry, looking at them.
Andromeda was tall and imposing, with her long black hair and piercing black eyes. Her tone sounded casual, but her posture denoted that she was wary of them.
Bella was more relaxed, just because she trusted James, and found amusement in the expressions the Gryffindors were making as they looked at them.
"Andromeda, Bella… what in Merlin's name are you two doing here? Were you following us?" Sirius had a hard time controlling his tone right now.
"I invited them. And stop talking in the hall. We can discuss more when we are inside," James said as he paced around in front of the tapestry.
"Inside where? There are no rooms here," Alice pointed out the obvious.
"James? What are you doing?" Lily saw him walk back and forth and couldn't understand his actions.
But just then, they all heard a noise coming from the opposite wall. A door had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"Whoa! I saw it forming from the stone itself," Peter exclaimed.
"So there was a door here after all… interesting," Remus said.
"Let's not waste more time." James pulled the door open and signaled for them to enter.
Once they went inside, the group found themselves staring at a massive hall, almost as big as the one where they usually had their meals.
It had already been equipped with training dummies and other types of equipment to practice spell casting.
Several dozen torches illuminated the place quite well, giving it an almost cozy atmosphere.
James closed the door behind him and made it disappear so no one else could see it. It would only reappear when they were ready to leave. "Welcome to the Room of Requirement."
"The Room of Requirement? I've never heard of a room like this in the castle," Remus said.
"Very few have discovered it over the centuries," James proceeded to explain to them everything they needed to know about the room, like the method to gain entrance, or that the room was capable of changing shape to fit whatever they needed at the moment.
"Incredible! So it's a secret room made by one of the founders…" Lily was now more impressed after learning that Rowena Ravenclaw herself was the one who created this place.
"It can be turned into anything? So if I want to take a nap, I can come here?" Alice asked.
"The less you come here outside our training sessions, the better. Because every time you do, there's a chance of someone else finding out about its existence. And then we'll need to find another location," James said.
"Wait, hold on." Sirius pointed at the two Slytherin girls. "Should you be telling all of this in front of those two?"
"We are your cousins, you prat," Bella huffed.
"So what? You're Slytherins. If you say something to your housemates, they'll take over this room in no time," Sirius said.
Andromeda frowned. "You think we're incapable of keeping a secret? You should know better by now, Sirius."
"As I said before, I invited Bella and her sister to attend the lessons. I hope you can get past all that Slytherin versus Gryffindor unpleasantness so we can train together. This is something that could one day save your lives," James said.
"Save our lives? Aren't you exaggerating a bit, James?" Alice chuckled.
Remus, Peter, and Lily also found his statement somewhat exaggerated.
Sirius, Andromeda, and Bellatrix, however, did not think the same. As they were the only ones who knew about the new Dark Lord, and were smart enough to understand the future danger that this implied.
