Zara found her way in, still stunned. "Kendrick?"
"W–what are you doing here?" she finally voiced her concern as she stylishly glanced around, scanning for any sign of life.
The house was unusually quiet.
"I tried to tell you at the office. The kids invited me," he replied.
"Oh..." Zara mumbled. "Where is every—"
"Kendrick, you can't find it? It's just by the—" Nana's voice came from the kitchen, but she halted when she saw Zara. "Oh, Zara. You're finally here."
"Go wash up and join us at the backyard," Nana said, grabbing Kendrick's wrist and tugging him away.
Zara stood there, watching Nana drag Kendrick while muttering, "Your meat is burning."
She scoffed softly, still trying to wrap her head around the familiarity between them.
They had only met twice. Yet here Nana was, calling him by his first name and acting like they were old friends.
"She must really like him," Zara muttered under her breath as she made her way upstairs.
