Dominic's POV
The room was quiet now. Too quiet. The kind of quiet that wraps around your neck and strangles you in your thoughts.
Gia was asleep, curled on her side, breathing soft and even, one hand resting lightly over her stomach. I watched the gentle rise and fall of her body from across the room, trying to convince myself that it meant everything was okay.
It wasn't.
I leaned against the windowpane, jaw tight, hands buried in my pockets as the city stretched endlessly before me. The skyline used to calm me. Now it just reminded me how out of control everything had become.
I lost Jennifer.
I lost her.
My failure slapping in the face when Gia looked at me with that amount of fear. I saw how she placed her hand on her stomach immediately she heard.
I clenched my fists. The surveillance was tight. The security team I hired was top tier. That room was reinforced to hold even the strongest, most unpredictable men we'd ever dealt with.
