Eadric's Pov
I wasn't paranoid but I knew something was wrong, our recent reconnaissance missions had all been compromised, and my investigation into his identity had led to dead ends. The thought of a traitor within the palace gnawed at me relentlessly.
I couldn't be trying to protect my kingdom and one person would be behind the scenes pulling the strings and stringing me along like a fool.
I paced my chamber, the heavy tapestry curtains doing little to block out the midday sun.
"Damn it all," I muttered, slamming my fist on the table. The papers scattered, and I hissed.
'Would you relax?' Joseph cautioned me.
I blocked him out before he added to my stress.
A soft knock interrupted my spiraling thoughts. "Enter," I called before trying to compose myself.
The door creaked open, and Derek, my trusted advisor, stepped in. "You called for me, your highness?"
"Yes. Close the door, please."
