"No, you can't go in!" Selene said, raising her shaky hands to stop Nikolas' twin bodyguards, Matthew and Matthias.
They had just seen her stepping out of the room and were already walking toward the door to Nikolas' office, about to push it open.
"What's happening in there? Are you okay, ma'am?" Matthew, one of the twins, asked, his voice laced with concern.
"I…eh.. yes," Selene stammered, still trying to process what had just happened.
"But I don't think you should go in. They need privacy," she added, glancing back at the door she had just come through.
She inhaled and exhaled deeply, ragged breaths scraping her throat.
As she realized that the air in the room had been too thick with tension to even breathe properly, her lungs were only now beginning to recover.
Her head was racing with several questions, one too many, all tangled together.
