POV: Orion Kings
The arrow missed my skull by inches.
I dove behind the old oak tree, bark exploding where the second arrow hit. My heart raced against my ribs as I put my back against the rough trunk.
"Come out, traitor!" a voice cried from the darkness. "You don't belong here anymore!"
I recognized that voice. Jake Morrison, one of Luther's most loyal followers. We used to play together as youngsters. Now he wanted me dead.
"Jake, it's me!" I yelled out, believing our old friendship meant something. "It's Orion!"
"I know exactly who you are," he snarled back. "The coward who ran away when his pack needed him most."
His words hit harder than any arrow could. Because part of me knew he was right.
I'd been gone for three years. Three years of running, hiding, trying to forget what Luther had done to our family. While I was gone feeling sorry for myself, he'd poisoned more minds against us.
But I was back now. For Amara. For our pack. For the truth.
