Chapter 56 - Long Night

Jenna run!

Warning bells rang at the back of Jenna's head, like a flatline. And her survival radar kept screaming that it was time for her to make a run for it, but it was nearly impossible; for some reason, Jenna couldn't move from where she was standing. Her whole body was frozen, but her heart raced so fast, almost pushing out of her chest.

In front of her, someone had been killed. In a split of a millisecond, she wasn't allowed to process it. Someone had died.

Rhane killed a person.

"Master?" Rhane tilted his head, then slowly raised it up straight. "Are you okay?"

Jenna tried to gulp, almost like a lump was hanging in her throat. She couldn't say a word or even scream as any human faced with this kind of situation would do.

The little puppy she brought home had turned out to be a wolf! That was the only reasonable explanation Jenna could come up with, her mind still a jumbled mess.

Rhane couldn't kill someone or speak in such tone. He's a fool with no memory of his past, kind and soft. He'd never hurt a fly! Yes! Jenna thought to herself. Then why did Rhane kill him?

"He was going to hurt you," Rhane replied as if he could read Jenna's mind. He leaned on the wall close, folding his arms across his chest. "Well... maybe he wasn't going to... but I'm sure he isn't a good person. So don't worry."

Rhane felt something sticky on his face; he rubbed the side of his face and noticed it was blood.

"Filthy idiots," Rhane cursed. He knelt beside the lifeless body. Dragging the shirt, he used it to wipe the blood on his face. "I knew I should have killed him outside," he murmured to himself.

Jenna felt her fingers trembling. Rhane was casually talking about killing someone. Rhane! How! She screamed in her head.

"Don't worry about the room, I'll get it cleaned up. Nice and squeaky, you won't know a person was even here," Rhane said, picking up his knife which was left in the person's throat. He wiped it clean first before slipping it beside his pocket.

When he stood up, he turned to look at Jenna with a wide smile on his lips.

"We can continue with what we were doing," Rhane pointed at the leash around his neck. "You said something about my mother."

Jenna's teeth clattered when Rhane took a step in her direction. "I... I'm sorry, please don't kill me. Please... please... Rhane."

"Kill you?" Rhane asked with his brows furrowed. "Why would I do that?" He raised his hands like he didn't understand the reason for Jenna's fear.

Jenna closed her eyes. "I won't tell anyone, just let me go. I promise... I... I didn't see anything. Please Rhane."

"Um... Master,"

Jenna got down on her knees. "I'm not your master, I'm sorry... please don't kill me." She clasped her hands together and begged.

Rhane's frown deepened. "You're really taking this a little too far, and why are you not my master? You don't want me anymore because I saved you?" His lips curled, a mischievous glint dancing in his eyes.

Jenna raised her face. When her eyes fell on Rhane, she knew immediately that the man before her was crazier than hell. His grin filled with madness and his eyes swimming in mischief. How did she not see it, that this man was crazy! How could she have missed it?

Maybe she has a knack for attracting the most twisted men around the world. Else, why would she be here in this moment?

Rhane picked a towel from the stand close to him, using it to wipe his face and his hand. He threw it over the lifeless body and kicked the body to the side so it'd be out of Jenna's view. Then he turned his attention back to her.

"Just keep your focus on me, and you'll be fine," he assured, slowly closing the distance between them.

Each step he made, Jenna crawled back, her eyes moving back and forth from Rhane's feet to the door. She tried to calculate just how long it'd take her to get to the door and make a run for it. If she screams, maybe Kali, who was sent to protect her, might be of help.

"Not your best option," Rhane drawled, his voice laid-back, while licking his lips. "I'd advise you don't attempt."

Jenna pressed her lips tightly. When Rhane took another step, she jumped from the ground and bolted.

Bolt would have been the case if she ever made it past the second wall, because the minute she stood up, Rhane grabbed her hand like he had been just close to her, but Jenna didn't notice.

Jenna struggled to push him away, but landed on the floor with Rhane breaking the fall. Once on the floor, Rhane turned so Jenna would be the one down.

"Let me go, help!! Someone help me!!" Jenna screamed, her lungs burning as she tried to use all her effort to push the man above her.

"Stop moving," Rhane said softly, pinning her hands above her head with one hand. "If you stop moving, I'll let you go," he promised.

Jenna was going to be a fool again if she believed a man who had lied to her even after she was kind to him.

"Argh!! Someone help me please!!" Jenna struggled against Rhane's words. "He's going to—"

Rhane used his palm to cover her mouth, causing the rest of her words to be muffled.

"Shut up, silly. If I was going to kill you, why not since, why now?" Rhane asked, moving his body up so he doesn't press on her.

He closed his eyes and sighed when he felt Jenna trembling under him. When a tear slipped down her eyes, Rhane hissed.

"Shh, shh... I'm not going to do anything to you, okay?" Rhane released her hands that he pinned. "Just promise you won't scream. I'd rather you do it another way, but... don't scream."

Jenna nodded slowly. She blinked twice to let him know she understood.

Rhane narrowed his eyes suspiciously. He stood up but with his large palm covering Jenna's mouth. He dragged her up, making sure she was steady, then removed his hand from her mouth.

Then raised his hands to show her he was harmless.

"I'm sorry you had to see that. I wasn't going to disrespect you in that manner, but these people always tempt me," Rhane explained calmly, though annoyed that he was forced to kill in such a brutal manner in front of Jenna.

"I know it's unruly of me, and I'm really sorry. I never wanted you to see me this way." He touched his chest and apologized, his eyes searching Jenna's face.

Jenna pressed her lips and nodded. He sounded really sincere. "So you have your memory back now?" she asked, a little calmer.

Rhane exhaled softly, glad that Jenna was taking it well. "We can sit down, I'll tell you about everything."

"Yes, let's do that," Jenna nodded. Before she turned, something fell out from her hand. And just when Rhane looked down, she grabbed the leash around his neck and tied it around tightly.

"Fool me once!" Jenna cursed, pinning Rhane's back to the wall. "I'm not a weak lady. Now tell me, who are you?"

Rhane cleared his throat, feeling Jenna tighten the leash around his neck, ready to choke him. "This is going to be a long night after all."

Jenna tied the leash even tighter. "I don't mind doing anything to defend myself. Who are you?!" she barked.

"I'll say I tried, but my lady is one stubborn little bee."

Rhane's words seemed to have angered Jenna. She grabbed his neck with anger, but Rhane grinned.

"It's funny to you?" Jenna asked with anger bubbling in her throat.

Rhane shook his head. "Mhm, I'd say you had a better chance to run than—" he moved his hand around Jenna's waist, making her lose balance due to shock. Then he pinned her front against the wall, with her hands above her head.

"This," Rhane completed with a smirk. "Lesson one, my lady. You don't leave a man's hand free when you're trying to torture him." He pinned his body closer to Jenna, his lips close to her ears.

"Now I don't know what I might do," he whispered, licking Jenna's ears to elicit a soft shudder from her.
