Chapter 111 - Good? News

Daily Meme

 -----

The second week of October started with Aizawa walking into class and dropping a bomb on us.

"The School Festival is coming up," he said. "You need to put on a show."

A few people perked up. Kaminari immediately leaned forward. "Like… an actual show-show? What kind?"

Aizawa sighed. "Something that contributes to the festival."

Mina grinned. "Ohhh, does that mean we get to pick?"

"That is what the class rep is for."

Iida straightened. "If we are responsible for our contribution, we must consider something that balances entertainment and inclusivity! A performance that showcases our unity as a class!"

Aizawa barely finished his sentence before Mina snorted. "Poor guy thinks he is Class Rep 'cause Ryuu assigns all the annoying shit to him."

Iida stiffened like she had physically slapped him, then turned to me, practically vibrating. "Midoriya! Surely you are willing to entrust this responsibility to me?"

I opened my mouth, fully intending to shove the entire thing onto him, but then-

Of course.

Of fucking course.

I sighed. "I will supervise."

The second the words left my mouth, I regretted it.

Mina snapped her fingers, grinning. "Ha! That means it is official."

Iida clapped his hands together, though hi died inside. "Excellent! With Midoriya overseeing, we will ensure a well-structured and engaging festival contribution!"

Bakugo scoffed. "Yeah, cause he is real good at following the rules."

I ignored him, already regretting not letting Iida handle the whole thing. "What are the suggestions?"

"We should do a haunted house," Tokoyami said.

Mina shook her head. "Nah, too basic."

"You just don't wanna set it up," Sero muttered.

She grinned. "Exactly."

Jiro leaned back. "What about a live band? We got instruments."

"That's not bad," I said.

Mina's grin widened. "Ooooh, we could do a dance party with it."

Jiro's eye twitched. "Dance?"

"Yes."

She looked like she wanted to argue, but Yaoyorozu spoke first. "A performance would be manageable if we plan it properly."

"It would be fun," Kirishima added. "Something different."

"We could make it work," Uraraka said.

Jiro sighed. "Fine, but if we do this, I am handling the music."

"Obviously," I said. "I don't trust anyone else."

Kaminari threw his arms up. "Wow, rude."

Jiro didn't even look at him. "You literally don't know how to whistle in tune."

He shrugged. "Minor detail."

Yaoyorozu tapped her chin. "If we are doing a dance performance, we will need a choreographer."

Mina pointed at me. "Him."

I stared at her. "The fuck did I do to deserve that?"

"You can dance."

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean I wanna teach your uncoordinated asses."

"Too late," she said. "You are in charge."

I sighed, already regretting everything. "Fine. But if you embarrass me, I am disowning you all."

"We could do a cafe," Uraraka offered, like she hadn't just triggered Mineta's inner hentai gremlin by accident.

Mineta leaned forward. "A maid cafe!"

He barely got the words out before Shoji slapped him into the wall. No hesitation. No warning. Just one big hand, one clean smack, and a muffled thud as the little bastard hit the surface and slid down like a dropped pancake.

"Anyway," I said, ignoring the human stain peeling himself off the wall. "I will assign shit before you idiots turn this into a blood ritual."

There was a beat of silence before Kaminari leaned in. "Cool," he said. "But like, in plain words?"

"It means I am deciding for you," I said. "Because if I don't, half of you are going to bitch about it for the next week, and the other half will forget this conversation ever happened."

"Hey, that is not-" Uraraka started, then immediately stopped, glancing at Sero and Kaminari. "Actually, never mind."

Jiro snorted. "That is accurate."

Mina leaned forward on her desk, grinning. "So what is the plan, boss?"

"A concert," I said. "With a dance performance. Jiro is in charge of the music, I am handling the choreography, and the rest of you will listen and do what you are told."

Bakugo scoffed. "Yeah, fuck that."

"Not an option," I said. "You are doing it."

"Like hell I am."

I turned my head slowly. "You wanna argue with me, or do you want me to just assign you to costume duty with Mineta?"

Bakugo's glare was immediate and fiery, but he shut his mouth. Smart.

Mineta, somehow still functioning despite getting plastered to the wall not even five minutes ago, perked up. "Wait, what is wrong with-"

"Anyway," I said, before that conversation could go anywhere I didn't want it to. "Jiro, start thinking about the setlist. Make it something good. Mina, you are helping with choreography. You wanted this, so congratulations, you are stuck with it."

Mina beamed. "Hell yeah."

"Everyone else, if you don't wanna dance, there is set design, lighting, and other grunt work. You will do something. No one gets to sit this out."

Yaoyorozu nodded. "That is reasonable."

Tokoyami leaned back slightly. "What of the performance itself?"

"That is for me to figure out," I said. "You will know when I am done."

"Does that mean you are doing a solo?" Kaminari asked.

I just shrugged.

Jiro raised a brow. "You serious?"

"I wouldn't say it if I wasn't."

She considered that, then nodded. "Alright."

--

I left the classroom without bothering to explain shit. I made a beeline for the third-year wing, ignoring the side-eyes from students who still weren't sure whether to see me as a hero-in-training or a problem in human form.

Nejire turned in her seat the second I walked in her class, eyes lighting up. "Ooo, are we skipping class? Are you kidnapping me? Is there a meteor about to crash into Earth, and you need me to stop it? Are you finally corrupting me?"

"Yes," I said. "And also no. Mostly yes."

Her teacher, still glaring, sighed through his nose. "Midoriya, she is in the middle of-"

I cut him off. "A catastrophe is happening. Immediate action is needed. Lives are at stake."

The glare turned murderous. Nejire perked up. "Ooo, that sounds important!"

"Super important," I said, grabbing her wrist and pulling her up. "No time to explain. We must go."

Her teacher made a noise like he was debating throwing something at me. I dragged her out before he could.

The second we were in the hallway, she bounced alongside me. "Where are we going, Ryuu, Ryuu, Ryuuuuu?"

I sighed, rubbing my temple as I walked toward the house. "Let's play with Eri. I will tell her I am taking her to the School Festival."

Nejire, still bouncing beside me, perked up. "Ooo, does she know what that is?"

"Probably not," I said.

Nejire hummed, tilting her head. "Then you should explain it!"

We stepped onto the path leading to the house. The place was built fast, like U.A. had someone on payroll specifically for emergency housing. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was solid and safe. Better than throwing Eri into some facility where she would be just another case file. Mom had moved in without hesitation, and now Eri had someone watching out for her who actually knew what she was doing.

When we reached the door, Nejire knocked twice before pushing it open. "Helloooo, we are here!"

Mom turned from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel. "You don't wait for people to answer the door anymore?"

Nejire grinned. "Nope!"

Eri was on the couch, knees pulled up, a book open on her lap. She looked up, then immediately down again, like she wasn't sure if she was supposed to react.

I walked over and crouched next to her. "Hey."

She nodded, fingers pressing into the pages.

I tapped the book. "You actually reading, or just staring at it?"

She hesitated, then mumbled, "Both."

Nejire flopped onto the couch beside her. "Whatcha reading?"

Eri lifted the book slightly. It was some fantasy thing.

Nejire gasped. "Ooo, knights and dragons! Nice choice."

Eri peeked up at her, then back down.

Mom walked over, hands on her hips. "What did you two do this time?"

"Nothing," I said. "Yet."

She narrowed her eyes but didn't push. "You are here for a reason."

"Yeah. Eri, you are coming to the School Festival."

Eri blinked. "Festival?"

I leaned back. "Yeah. Food, music, games, all that."

She looked down again, like she was trying to process it. "I don't… I've never…"

"Good time to start," I said.

She clutched the book tighter. "But I… I don't know what to do there."

"That is why we are telling you now," Nejire said. "So you have time to think about all the fun stuff you wanna do!"

Eri's fingers curled into the pages, her shoulders tensing.

I sighed. "Alright. You know how you collect candies whenever something good happens?"

She nodded.

"This is a candy moment," I said.

She didn't move. Didn't argue, but didn't agree either. Just held onto the book like it was anchoring her to the couch.

Mom gave me a look.

I glanced back at Eri. "Nobody is forcing you. But you can't be a couch cryptid forever. There is candy. There is noise. There is me being awesome. It is basically therapy."

Nejire nodded. "It is fun! And Ryuu is helping with the show, so you will get to see him do something cool!"

Eri looked at me again, like she was trying to figure out if that was true.

I shrugged. "Dunno about cool, but yeah."

She stared for a second longer, then finally said, "Okay."

Mom exhaled. "That was faster than I expected."

--

Ryuu: types furiously

"All work and no Power Stones makes Ryuu a broken mess of sleepless prose."

Door creaks open.

Bat slams through.

Ryuu's face pokes in.

"HERE IS BONUS CONTENT- oh wait, you didn't vote.

Never mind. Back to trauma."
