Chapter 33: Changing Faces
After finishing his work, Yang Bo carefully examined the mecha. Although it was outdated and looked a bit clumsy, like the mechas he had seen in old cartoons, with its square head and body, it didn't resemble the advanced mechas of today, which exuded an artistic flair.
"It seems I was right to be criticized on the gaming forum," Yang Bo muttered to himself, gazing at the plasma sword with a blade five meters long. He imagined the sword slicing through a bird and realized he had indeed gone too far.
Of course, admitting it was excessive was one thing, but whether to act on it was another matter entirely. It was like those politicians who were shouting slogans at a meeting just a few days ago, only to be taken away a couple of days later.
"Hmm, if this thing were brought back to Earth…" Yang Bo examined it closely but did not step onto the alloy floor, as there was a warning line.
——
After ten days of training, Yang Bo could now change his face in an instant. Looking at himself in the mirror, he could switch between a man's face and a woman's face in a second, though he couldn't drastically alter his bone structure—just add or subtract some flesh on his face.
Sound wave control: Yang Bo could now precisely control sound waves within a hundred meters.
Yang Bo stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, snapped his fingers, and a leaf in the garden 100 meters away shattered as the wind blew it.
The entire attack process took only 0.3 seconds. Yang Bo felt that anything farther than that was pointless. This amount of time was insignificant to ordinary people, but for genetically evolved beings, it could accomplish a great deal.
If the target is a resident, would Yang Bo use these methods? A few blows with a hammer would ensure the target calls the police.
The ability to become invisible is simply unbeatable. Looking at himself disappearing in the mirror, his entire body vanished. Logically, the mirror should reflect a blank space, but instead it reflected the wall behind him.
This is due to changes in one's own energy.
Yang Bo concluded that the abilities displayed by genetic evolvers are merely manifestations, while the true core lies in the energy within their bodies.
Just as electricity on Earth is converted through various machines into sound, images, wind, heat, light, and other forms of energy, these are merely manifestations.
The abilities displayed by genetic evolvers are merely manifestations, while the fundamental essence is simply electricity.
"Once this event is over, I'll buy a house with a huge basement to train in controlling electrical energy and light energy." Yang Bo changed into his clothes and went out. Now Yang Bo didn't need to sleep. When he was tired, he charged; when he was sleepy, he charged; when he was hungry, he ate. He could also go without eating, but Yang Bo felt empty-stomached when he didn't eat.
There were a total of six mechs in the exhibition hall. Aside from the first one, the Blade, the rest were all beautiful, with streamlined designs. From their appearance, they seemed capable of operating on land, water, and air. They were equipped with laser swords, laser cannons, and missile launchers.
There were blue ones, pink ones, and green ones.
"Huh?" The exhibition starts in three days. The other exhibition halls are filled with various items, and the adjacent exhibition hall is filled with things related to each mecha, though I don't know what they are exactly, as I can't enter. Yang Bo came today and noticed that there is a large display board in front of each mecha, presumably for introductions.
No smart devices are used here, and there are even high-power signal jammers. The abilities of genetically enhanced individuals are diverse, with some capable of controlling data. Therefore, at exhibitions featuring cutting-edge technology, smart devices are prohibited to prevent others from accessing core data secrets.
This dimensional company has been generating a lot of buzz lately, and it's said that this exhibition will go down in history. Yang Bo wondered what new technologies might be involved, but as a resident, he doesn't understand science—or even some obscure laws.
Why doesn't he understand? Because he's part of a disadvantaged group without a biochip, so he can't remember.
Therefore, if a resident breaks the law but doesn't cause serious consequences and it's their first offense, they usually won't be punished because they can claim they didn't know it was illegal.
Of course, obscure laws are similar to those in Florida on Earth that don't tolerate idleness.
With a snap of his fingers, Yang Bo's mind conjured up the basic structure of these mechs. The largest one stood twelve meters tall, entirely blue, with a massive transparent cockpit visible.
Looking at the structure was useless, as Yang Bo didn't understand it. Mech structures were all similar, except for some exotic models.
Mechs are divided into many categories, including both military and work-related types.
The next day, Yang Bo trained his abilities during the day, then checked the prices of houses in various areas and selected a few that he was satisfied with. Unfortunately, due to the concert, house prices had actually risen.
Yang Bo didn't log into the game again, as he felt that having raw power alone wasn't enough, and his body needed time to recover.
"That's odd." For three consecutive nights, the display panels of the other mechs in the exhibition hall all had explanations.
For example, the tallest mecha had been modified with the latest generation of antimatter batteries, equipped with full-body energy shields, the latest generation of optical brain assistance, high-energy particle guns, and energy metals in critical areas.
The antimatter batteries had a hundred times the endurance and burst power of the nuclear batteries Yang Bo used in the game.
This mecha's instantaneous speed exceeded 16 times the speed of sound...
It was time to go home. Yang Bo noticed for the first time that there were so many people waiting outside the Dome Entertainment City. Some of them seemed to be journalists. Yang Bo left through the employee exit. Outside the Dome Entertainment City, police officers wearing individual combat armor were maintaining public order.
Yang Bo returned home, finished his evening routine, and opened the internet. The Dimension Modification Company was set to announce a major update today, and Yang Bo suspected it was related to the Blade Mech, as the display panel for the Blade Mech didn't mention anything.
At 7:30 PM, half an hour before the Dome Exhibition, news about the Dimension Company exploded online.
Yang Bo quickly opened the promotional video from Dimension Modification Company. A man with a magnetic voice spoke, and an image appeared on the screen.
"It has been 1,500 years since our first spatial jump experiment."
"It has been 1,000 years since the first manned spatial jump."
"Within these 1,000 years, we have conducted hundreds of millions of space jumps, bringing human society closer together."
"Today, our Dimension Modification Company is unveiling humanity's greatest invention—the spatial storage equipment featured in countless novels and films."
"This is a Blade Mecha, and this is a spatial storage button. Please take a look."
In the video, a person holds an object resembling a car key from Yang Bo's previous lifetime, with a crystal on top and two buttons—one red and one silver—on either side of the crystal.
When the silver button is pressed, the Blade Mecha in the video disappears instantly.
"Some may doubt it, some may say the video is fake, but our Dimension Modification Company will publicly demonstrate this greatest invention in human history at the Dome Entertainment City." As the voice explains, the red button is pressed, and the mecha reappears.
"Wow," Yang Bo was stunned. He then saw news reports showing that the outside of the Dimension Modification Company's exhibition hall was already packed with people, and the company's stock price had skyrocketed. Of course, there were also some experts Yang Bo didn't recognize who claimed it was impossible.
