Chapter 12 - Luring lyrien

Lyrien's eyes sparkled with intrigue as he began to speak. "I can help you find the Keeper, Aria . But we'll need to be careful. The journey will be treacherous, and we'll be going against your mother's wishes."

I hesitated, weighing the risks and benefits. But my desire to prove myself and save the kingdom won out. "I'm in," I said, my voice firm.

Lyrien smiled, seeming to approve of my decision. "Excellent. We'll need to gather our supplies and come up with a plan. Meet me in the old windmill on the outskirts of the kingdom at midnight."

With that, Lyrien slipped away, leaving me to wonder what I had just gotten myself into…

I couldn't shake off the feeling that Lyrien was hiding something from me. His words were laced with a subtle charm, but I sensed a deeper motive behind his actions.

As we swam through the winding corridors of the palace, I decided to test Lyrien's intentions. "So, Lyrien, what's in it for you?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant. "Why are you helping me on this quest?"

Lyrien's smile faltered for a moment, and I caught a glimpse of something else in his eyes. Something that looked almost like... hunger.

"Oh, I'm just a curious soul, Aria ," Lyrien said, his voice dripping with innocence. "I love uncovering secrets and exploring the unknown. And I must say, the Magic Bowl is quite an intriguing mystery."

I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "That's all?"

Lyrien chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Well, perhaps I'm also motivated by a desire to help a beautiful princess in distress."

I rolled my eyes, trying to hide the flush that rose to my cheeks. "Save it, Lyrien. I'm not buying the charming stranger act."

I took a deep breath and decided to trust Lyrien. After all, I had no other leads on finding the Keeper, and Lyrien seemed to know more about the Magic Bowl than anyone else.

"Okay, Lyrien," I said, trying to sound confident. "I'll trust you. But if you're trying to trick me, you'll regret it."

Lyrien's grin faltered for a moment, and he looked at me with a hint of surprise. Then, he nodded, his expression serious.

"I promise you, Aria , I'm not trying to trick you. I want to help you unlock the secrets of the Magic Bowl, and I'm willing to risk my own life to do it."

I studied Lyrien's face, searching for any sign of deception. But all I saw was sincerity and determination.

"Alright," I said finally, extending my hand. "Let's do this."

Lyrien took my hand, his grip firm and warm. Together, we set off towards the old windmill on the outskirts of the kingdom, ready to face whatever dangers lay ahead.

As we swam, Lyrien told me more about the Keeper and the Magic Bowl. He explained that the Keeper was an ancient being who possessed the knowledge of the ocean's secrets, and that the Magic Bowl was a key to unlocking those secrets.

But Lyrien's words were laced with a sense of urgency, and I could tell that he was hiding something from me.

Suddenly, Lyrien stopped swimming and grabbed my arm, his eyes locked on something in the distance.

"What is it?" I whispered, following his gaze.

And that's when I saw it: a dark shape looming in the shadows, its presence seeming to fill the entire ocean...

Lyrien's grin widened, and he leaned in closer. "Ah, but that's where you're wrong, Aria . I'm not just any charming stranger. I'm the only one who can help you unlock the secrets of the Magic Bowl."

I felt a shiver run down my spine as Lyrien's words whispered against my ear. What was he hiding? And why did I feel like I was dancing on the edge of a precipice, with Lyrien holding the reins?

The dark shape grew larger, its presence suffocating. I could feel its power radiating towards us, like a tidal wave about to crash.

Lyrien's grip on my arm tightened. "It's a Shadow Serpent," he whispered. "A creature of darkness and chaos."

I swallowed hard, trying to process what I was seeing. The Shadow Serpent was enormous, its body a twisted mass of black scales and writhing tendrils.

"What does it want?" I asked, my voice barely audible.

Lyrien's eyes locked on the serpent. "It's drawn to the Magic Bowl's power. It wants to claim it for itself."

I felt a surge of fear. We had to get out of there, fast. But Lyrien seemed frozen in place, his gaze fixed on the serpent.

"Lyrien, come on!" I tugged on his arm, trying to snap him out of his trance.

But he didn't budge. Instead, he raised his hand, and a faint glow emanated from his fingers. The glow grew brighter, illuminating the dark waters and casting an eerie light on the Shadow Serpent.

The serpent recoiled, its body thrashing wildly as it tried to escape the light. Lyrien took advantage of the distraction, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the windmill.

We swam as fast as we could, the Shadow Serpent's roar echoing through the waters behind us. I didn't dare look back, fearing what I might see.

Finally, we reached the windmill, a crumbling structure that loomed above us like a ghostly sentinel. Lyrien pushed open the creaky door, and we slipped inside, gasping for breath.

But as we caught our breath, I realized that we weren't alone. A figure waited in the shadows, watching us with cold, calculating eyes…
