Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: Poor and Sad Father

"There's another Marcus sleeping underground," Selina muttered, narrowing her eyes.

She wasn't sure who the young man claiming to be with the FBI actually was, but one thing was clear—whoever he was, that boy wasn't your typical government agent. No way the U.S. government had people like that on payroll. Still, since he hadn't attacked her, she decided to treat him as neutral—for now.

"Release," said Uzumaki Asoaka as he formed a quick hand seal, dispelling the dojo's illusion.

Coulson stood nearby, unharmed, though the scene around him was carnage. He wasn't surprised, though. He remembered how even a little girl like Uchiha Chisato had shown no mercy. So Asaoka acting decisively? That was to be expected.

"You're saying there's a vampire elder sleeping underground?" Coulson asked.

"Yeah," Selina nodded. "Marcus. You could say he's the ancestor of all vampires."

To be honest, Selina didn't have any personal beef with Marcus—her vendetta was with Viktor. But it didn't matter. As a traitor to her kind, she knew Marcus wouldn't spare her if he ever woke up.

Coulson turned his gaze to the sealed sarcophagus lying on the ground. Then he looked at Asaoka. "Think you can open that for us?"

"No problem," Asaoka said casually.

He gathered chakra into his palm and smashed the sarcophagus with a single punch. The thick stone burst apart like wet cardboard. This was a strange power technique taught to him by Su Xiuyu—though Asaoka didn't know the move's original creator wasn't actually Su Xiuyu.

Coulson stared at the broken stone coffin, dumbfounded. "Do you guys even have weaknesses?"

"I'm nowhere near that level," Asaoka said with a grin. "Brother Xiuyu, now he's the one with no weaknesses."

Coulson assumed he was just being modest. After all, with the abilities Asaoka had shown so far, even S.H.I.E.L.D. would find him hard to handle. And this might not even be his full strength.

Inside the coffin, a shriveled, mummified figure lay silently.

"Is this really Marcus?" Coulson frowned. He looked ancient… and dead. But what if he woke up when they brought him back?

Asaoka seemed to sense Coulson's hesitation. "Worried about him coming back to life? I've got a way to keep him nice and quiet. You can even slice him up for tests, and he won't fight back."

Coulson perked up. "What kind of method?"

"It'll cost you," Asaoka said with a sly smile.

"…What?" Coulson blinked.

"I said it'll cost more money," Asaoka repeated, face now looking a lot less like a cheerful teen and a lot more like a businessman.

"Why the hell would I have to pay extra?"

"This is follow-up work," Asaka shrugged. "You want after-sales service? You pay for it."

Lucien and the nearby werewolves turned their faces away, pretending not to hear. Despite Asaoka youthful appearance, his destructive power was terrifying. Viktor's lifeless body was still lying there with wide-open eyes. Marcus had just been yanked from his coffin like a rag doll.

If this so-called "FBI agent" got pissed off, none of them were making it out alive.

"How much are we talking?" Coulson asked, already pulling out his phone to contact Fury.

"Just two million dollars," Asaoka said, grinning. "After tax."

"Two million?!"

"Give it to him," came Fury's voice from the other end of the call. "Money's not the issue."

But the second the call ended, Fury grimaced and grumbled to himself, "These damn ninja kids suck more money than vampires suck blood. And I still haven't scraped together enough for that damn helicarrier…"

Coulson put his phone away with a sigh. "Alright, the Director approved it. Now, what's your solution?"

"Simple. I'll seal his powers using a chakra-based sealing technique. Even if he wakes up, he won't be able to move a finger."

"Re-Seal: Four-Limb Lock!" Asaoka called out.

With swift hand signs, the seal was complete. This technique, improved by Su Xiuyu and Uzumaki Mito, worked across different power systems—not just chakra users. Though it was a relatively low-tier seal, it was still incredibly effective.

"All done," Asaoka said, brushing off his hands. "Don't forget my payment once the job's finished."

"That's it?" Coulson was stunned. "That quick, and you made two million bucks?"

"You think this is easy?" Asaoka raised an eyebrow. "Sealing techniques are a unique art from the Uzumaki clan. Most people can't even grasp the basics. You're lucky it was me on this mission."

Call it robbery if you want—but it was high-level, technical robbery. The Uzumaki clan had a reputation to maintain, after all.

"Can you seal… anything?" Coulson asked, mostly out of curiosity.

"If you're strong enough, yeah," Asaoka said confidently. "Hell, with the right strength, you could even seal a nuclear bomb mid-explosion."

"You serious?"

Coulson had only asked to make conversation, but now he wasn't so sure. Everyone else around them—Selina, Lucien, the werewolves—just assumed they were joking. No one took it seriously.

Except Coulson. And he wasn't about to press further—not now.

"So," he asked, "does your seal package come with after-sales support?"

"Three years warranty. No issues, no leaks. If you have problems, call me—I got you," Asaoka said with a wink. "And if you guys somehow break the Uzumaki seal… I'll eat that mummy myself."

Then Asaoka turned toward the window. "Alright, come out already. You've been watching long enough."

An elderly man with silver hair stepped into view, followed by a squad of 12 heavily armed guards. Despite their firepower, none of them pointed their weapons at Coulson or Asaoka.

"Smart move," Asaoka said coolly. "Now, care to explain what you're doing here, old man?"

The old man bowed slightly. "My apologies. I didn't mean to intrude or cause a misunderstanding."

He stood straight, eyes calm. "I'm simply a father. A poor one, at that—forced to watch as my sons destroy everything around them. And I… I can't bear to end them myself. So I clean up their messes. That's all."

"Your son—Marcus?" Asaoka asked, eyes narrowing. "Or Viktor?"

"Marcus… and William."

"William?" Lucien stepped forward. "You mean the William—the werewolf ancestor?"

The old man nodded.

"Yes. William—the source of all werewolves—and Marcus, the ancestor of vampires. They're both my sons. My name is Alexander Corvinus."

Both Selina and Lucien stared at him in stunned silence. The name hung in the air like a heavy fog, impossible to ignore.

-----------------

"Why? You want to take your son away?" Uzumaki Asaoka said coldly, his voice carrying an edge. "Marcus is one of my mission targets. Unless the client calls off the job, there's no room for negotiation—even if he's your son."

Alexander shook his head slowly. "No, I'm not here to take him. I just hope you'll spare his life. As for William, he's lost control of himself. I'll handle him. Please... forgive me. This is the mercy of an old father."

Uzumaki Asaoka didn't budge. His sharp gaze remained fixed on Alexander. "If you really had compassion, you wouldn't have let your sons wreak havoc on the world for centuries. You had the power to stop them but chose not to. That's not compassion—it's cowardice."

Alexander sighed. He had expected this. He knew Uzumaki Asaoka wouldn't just let Marcus walk away. Their strength wasn't even comparable. No amount of pleading would change the outcome.

"How you deal with Marcus is your call now," Asaoka said, turning to Agent Coulson. "Talk it out with him. I won't interfere with the client's final decision."

Coulson stepped forward with a smile that masked how tense the situation had been moments before. The only reason they were having this peaceful discussion now was because of Asaoka's overwhelming strength. Still, Coulson understood the game—he knew his role well.

"This commission was worth every penny," Coulson muttered, glancing at the battlefield strewn with vampire corpses. "But damn, it was expensive."

Eventually, Coulson and Alexander reached an agreement: Marcus would be handed over to S.H.I.E.L.D. for research, under the condition that his life would be spared.

"A buy-one-get-one-free deal," Coulson joked, half-seriously.

Alexander wasn't just some ancient relic—he was a valuable asset, with centuries of knowledge that S.H.I.E.L.D. could definitely use.

Turning to two others nearby, Alexander called out, "Your names are Selina and Lucian, right? Come here."

He looked at the two with a mix of guilt and sincerity. "You probably don't know me. I'm called the Immortal—just an old man who's lived through far too much. Selina, I know your family wasn't killed by Marcus directly, but Victor was his partner. And Lucian… I sympathize with what happened to Sonya. I know I can't bring the dead back, but let me offer you something. A small way to make amends."

He reached into his coat and pulled out two syringes filled with a glowing serum.

"This gift can help you both. Selina, it'll let you walk freely under the sun like a normal person. Lucian, it'll stabilize your mutation—complete your evolution. Take it as a final gesture from an old man who's made more mistakes than he can count."

Lucian didn't object. With Victor dead and his revenge complete, there was nothing left to hold onto. Sonya couldn't be brought back. As for Selina, the thought of living a normal life in the sunlight—after centuries in the dark—was deeply tempting.

Alexander handed them the serum. "Find a quiet place. Once you use it, it'll correct your genetic makeup. What you do with your lives after this… that's up to you."

Coulson, ever the opportunist, saw an opening.

"If you two don't mind," he began, "you might want to consider joining the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."

Selina raised an eyebrow. "The what?"

Coulson smiled. "S.H.I.E.L.D. for short. We're a global agency dedicated to protecting the world from threats—human and otherwise. And from what I've seen, you two would fit right in."

He leaned in slightly. "Plus, we can provide you with legal identities. After living in the shadows for hundreds of years, don't you want to start fresh—out in the open, in the sun?"

Selina hesitated, her expression uncertain. "I… I don't know. I'm confused. Everything I knew is gone. The vampire coven is wiped out. Kraven's the only one left—and he's not exactly someone I want to spend time with."

Lucian nodded solemnly. "I'll have to think about it. My decision affects the entire werewolf tribe. I have people depending on me. I need to make sure their lives stay stable before committing to anything."

"Of course," Coulson said quickly. "I'm not pressuring you. The choice is yours."

Then Selina narrowed her eyes. "Wait a second. I thought you said you were with the FBI?"

Coulson chuckled, caught red-handed. "Technically, yes… sometimes. We use the FBI name during field operations. Makes it easier to work without too many questions. Not everyone respects or even knows about S.H.I.E.L.D., after all."

With the conversation wrapping up, Coulson began calling in the cleanup crew. The battlefield needed to be sanitized—bodies, blood, all of it. The media loved sensational stories, and if the public caught wind of a vampire war breaking out in the city, it'd be a disaster.

"Coulson," Asaoka said, stretching his shoulders. "Now that your backup is here and cleanup has started, I assume my mission is officially complete?"

Coulson nodded with a grateful smile. "Yeah. Mission accomplished. Thank you for everything."

"Just another job," Asaoka replied casually. "And you paid me for it."

"Still," Coulson said sincerely, "thank you. Whether it's just a job or not, I appreciate your help."

Uzumaki Asaoka glanced at him. Despite Coulson being a typical agent—ready to lie when needed—his gratitude felt real.

That was enough for Asaoka.

Coulson, for his part, had grown to respect the ninja. They weren't arrogant, despite their overwhelming strength. They were lethal when necessary but grounded in their values—something Fury had been keeping an eye on.

And once again, Coulson would have to write a full report.

Because while S.H.I.E.L.D. had plenty of agents, only a few were capable of operating on the same level as a man like Uzumaki Asaoka.
