Near the Uchiha compound, at a training ground—
Seeing that Kaze still hadn't shown up, Might Guy decided to pass the time by doing push-ups while he waited.
"Nine hundred ninety-one…Nine hundred ninety-two…Nine hundred ninety-three…"
Without realizing it, Might Guy was about to break the one-thousand mark.
"Man, this guy is really something," Kaze muttered when he spotted Guy from far off, unable to resist commenting.
A little context—
During the Third Shinobi World War, Kaze and Might Guy had crossed paths on the battlefield.
That was when the two first got acquainted.
Add to that Kaze's background as a transmigrator, and he had a decent grasp of Guy's personality and interests.
After a few efforts to win him over, they gradually became friends.
Of course, Kaze originally approached Might Guy for a more practical reason—he needed a strong backer.
Even though Guy was seen as a loser who only specialized in taijutsu, in actual combat, there were very few who could really take him on.
So Kaze had already considered it: if the Uchiha Massacre really did happen one day, and things went south… he could always go hide out at Guy's house.
Maybe he'd survive the whole ordeal that way.
Before long, Kaze jogged over to Guy, but didn't interrupt his training.
"One thousand!"
Right as he hit the round number, Might Guy stood up from the ground.
"This is youth, Kaze!"
Grinning, Guy gave him a big thumbs-up. Both men's mouths curled up into broad smiles, revealing dazzlingly white teeth that practically sparkled with a blinding gleam.
"Yeah, yeah, sure," Kaze nodded along.
"Oh right! Congratulations, Kaze—so you finally became a Konoha jōnin!" Guy suddenly remembered something important and grabbed a gift box from a nearby post.
"This is for you."
"A gift?" Kaze was a little surprised. He hadn't expected Guy to prepare a present for his promotion to jōnin.
But thinking about it, this was kind of a Konoha tradition—whenever a friend made jōnin, it was customary to give them a gift to celebrate.
"Well, thanks then."
Kaze expressed his genuine gratitude, then opened the gift Guy had carefully prepared.
And then…
Inside the box was a set of Might Guy's signature green spandex.
Thud!
Kaze dropped the box straight to the ground. "Who the hell would wear something like that?!"
"What are you doing, Kaze?! That's a gift I chose for you with great care! Wear it, and you'll definitely become even stronger!"
Guy immediately picked up the jumpsuit and began listing its benefits from 360 different angles.
"First, the breathability—no matter how hot the weather is…"
"Yeah, yeah, sure," Kaze sighed and shook his head. In the end, he could only accept the gift with great reluctance.
But inwardly, he couldn't help thinking: just how obsessed is this guy with that spandex?!
"Anyway, forget the gift for now. Guy, the reason I came to see you today is because I need a favor."
"A favor?" Might Guy patted his chest. "Say no more—just tell me what you need!"
"You know about the Konoha Police Force, right? I'm planning to establish a new division, and since you're familiar with the Uchiha clan's situation…"
"Genjutsu and ninjutsu-wise, no doubt they're top-tier—but when it comes to taijutsu, not so much."
"That's why I want you to become the new instructor for the Konoha Police Force, to help train their physical abilities."
Kaze spoke seriously.
This wasn't some spur-of-the-moment idea.
It was something that came to mind after he acquired the Six Powers of the Navy.
Training in the Rokushiki required a certain level of physical strength—especially techniques like Tekkai (Iron Body) and Life Return.
If the body didn't meet the minimum standard of strength…
There was no way to master them.
Looking around all of Konoha, aside from those walking cheat codes with Hashirama cells—
Might Guy's physical prowess was definitely among the top few.
Having him raise the Uchiha clan's overall physical strength? There was no better man for the job.
"You want me to train the Uchiha clan?"
Guy blinked in surprise.
His impression of the Uchiha was that they were overflowing with geniuses—especially with their Sharingan.
Their perception abilities were off the charts.
And when it came to shurikenjutsu, they could pull off insane techniques with ease.
Saying the Uchiha were weak in taijutsu?
Was that supposed to be a joke?
"That's right. If those guys had even half your skill in taijutsu—combined with the Sharingan's perception—they'd take the police force's strength to a whole new level."
"But no rush on this. Take some time to think about it, and just give me your answer in a week."
Kaze had thought this through.
In a week or so, he'd probably have most of the Six Powers under his belt.
And then he could spar with Guy in a good ol' taijutsu match.
Rokushiki vs. Eight Gates.
Now that sounded like fun.
But just as Kaze and Guy were discussing the instructor gig, a figure wearing a haori came rushing over—it was a member of the Uchiha clan.
"Kaze!"
The newcomer was none other than Uchiha Sei.
Before they parted ways, Kaze had told him where he'd be.
In case anything urgent came up, he could come here to find him.
"What's going on?" Kaze turned to face him.
Sei's expression was tense.
But before he spoke, he shot a glance toward Guy—clearly hinting that this wasn't something outsiders should hear.
Kaze got the message and asked Guy to wait a moment.
Then he followed Sei to a more secluded spot.
Only then did Sei explain everything in detail.
"Just now, some ANBU showed up. They said they were here to take Shisui's body—and the bodies of those Root members."
Fugaku had gone to speak with the Third Hokage about the situation and hadn't returned yet.
Naturally, the sudden arrival of the ANBU demanding the bodies didn't sit well with the Uchiha.
Now both sides were locked in a standoff.
Worried things might escalate, Sei rushed over to get Kaze.
After all, Kaze was now the Vice-Captain of the Konoha Police Force.
With Fugaku gone, it was his responsibility to step up.
"Fugaku never disappoints—at disappointing people," Kaze muttered with a sigh after hearing everything.
The ANBU typically answered directly to the Third Hokage.
Without his orders, they wouldn't act on their own.
And since Fugaku had already gone to meet with Hiruzen…
It was obvious—this move had his silent approval.
Still, no matter what, Shisui was one of their own.
He died inside Uchiha territory.
All signs pointed to Shimura Danzo as the culprit.
Yet somehow, as clan head, Fugaku was now being restrained by Hiruzen.
"What should we do now?" Sei sucked in a sharp breath. Though he was one of the more hawkish members of the Uchiha, this was a serious matter—even he didn't dare make a move lightly.
Even the more aggressive elders weren't exactly eager to pick a fight with the ANBU.
But as proud Uchiha, they couldn't bring themselves to back down, either.
After some discussion, they decided to seek out Kaze—their newly appointed vice-captain.
"We're not handing anything over."
Seeing Sei so lost, Kaze couldn't help but let out a cold chuckle.
Fugaku had taken a winning hand and played it straight into the dirt.
"Shisui stays. The bodies stay. Nothing gets handed over."
With that, Kaze said a quick goodbye to Guy and headed straight for the Konoha Police Force.
