Leaning casually in the doorway, his gaze like steel. Alex turned slowly, biting back the urge to attack.
Logan's tone never rose. It didn't have to.
"I'd think very carefully before trying anything stupid again. You already lost once tonight."
Alex's jaw twitched. His fists clenched tighter.
"You followed me."
"I wanted you to see it coming," Jean said calmly, standing just a few feet away. "You lost."
Alex turned, slowly. There was no smugness in his expression. Only rage.
"You always did know how to sink your claws into powerful men," he hissed.
Jean flinched at the venom in his voice but didn't back down. "No claws needed, Alex. Just brains. Something you never respected me for."
"You think Logan Kingsley will save you?" He stepped closer, eyes narrowing, his tone laced with disgust. "He's just a phase. I know you, Jean. You crave power. You used our family for it, and now you're using him."
