The next morning, a lot of guards arrived and they ordered that all the slaves get lined up. I was so nervous because they all looked furious as hell, and the only thing that comforted me was Jake's presence. I had thought he'd be mad at me and not speak to me last night but he's doing none of that, to my relief.
"Think they're here to punish some people here?" I asked quietly and Jake shrugged. We were all arranged in a straight line and as the guards slowly walked past us, I created breathing till they were far away from me.
"I can't really tell." He responded just as Iris, the head of the slaves here, standing in the front right now, began to speak. This was her first time showing up here and also her first time addressing us since I arrived here.
