"My hometown," he said. "There's someone there, the only one who can help us."
I was still curious about who this person might be. So, hesitantly, I asked, "Who is this person you're speaking of?"
He didn't answer immediately.
"You'll understand when you meet him," he replied.
The journey was long, but with Suhee by my side, I felt at ease. There was something refreshing about being with someone you cherished.
A few hours passed, and we finally arrived at our destination. It was a small fishing village on the outskirts. There were hardly any people around, and the cool air, sent a shiver down my spine.
Mr. Park led us through the village, eventually bringing us to the house of the village chief. It was empty; everyone had gone out to sea in the early morning to fish.
We waited in silence.
Then, someone entered. He looked oddly familiar, though I couldn't place where I'd seen him before.
I then remembered, this man had visited Mr.Park a lot of times in the past. Mr. Park explained that the village chief had once been a colleague during his time working on the experiment.
A surge of anger rose within me, it was showing on my face. The village chief noticed and told me to calm down. He explained that he was one of the first to leave the experiment and was the one who alerted Mr. Park to the horrors committed by the researchers.
The village chief gestured for us to sit, then went into the kitchen. When he returned, he offered us hot coffee.
He asked Mr. Park why we had come all the way here. Mr. Park explained everything that had happened.
But the village chief's response was clear: he couldn't help. He didn't want to become involved with the organization again.
