I leaned out my arms, both of them, pointed straight in the air along with the sword trapped between both hands. My skin glistened with sweat, warm under the golden radiance of the sun.
I didn't need to look at the time scroll spread out on the training ground beside me. I'd memorized the next series of stances and swung the sword into the air, slicing and cutting the air, performing each stance.
A maid strolled past the edge of the training ground, the little bit of it covered under the shade of the stone deck of the corridor leading to the training ground. With just a glimpse of her, my mind drifted quickly from the stances to her—Lyra.
