I'm sneezing nonstop by the time we reach my apartment building. Not even the polite kind of sneezes. These are full-body, soul-leaving-my-body sneezes. The kind that echo slightly in the quiet corridor and make me feel like I'm expelling my last shred of dignity every time.
Theo chuckles, soft and a little guilty. He reaches over and pats my head. His hand is cold but he caress my hair like it's a glass. "You should rest," he says. "Sorry I didn't get you home sooner. But I have to go now, I have a morning class."
My jaw drops. "Wait—you have morning class? Like, actual class?"
He nods sheepishly, eyes crinkling. "Yeah, don't worry."
I gape at him. "Theo. You didn't sleep."
"Nope."
"Oh my God. You're insane."
He shrugs, the hoodie sleeves on me bunched up like wrinkled clouds. "You're one to talk. Going to the beach in just a shirt and pants in the dawn?"
"That's fair," I mutter.
"I was jogging," Theo says. "Didn't take my car. So, I'll walk."
