Chapter 82 - Chapter 69: The Return of the Festival of Lanterns

Though the world of Teyvat had evolved beyond magic, the spirit of its people remained deeply connected to tradition. As spring drew near, excitement bloomed across the settlements—especially in Hu Tao and Aether's peaceful town. Word had spread that the old Festival of Lanterns would return—not as a ritual to honor fallen heroes or appease ancient spirits, but as a joyous celebration of unity, hope, and memory.

Hu Tao, of course, took charge of the preparations with radiant enthusiasm.

"I may not be summoning spirits anymore," she said with a cheeky grin, "but I can still summon joy."

The entire town buzzed as lanterns were crafted from recycled materials, painted with personalized dreams, and adorned with LEDs to simulate the warm magic of old. Streets were filled with laughter, musicians rehearsed cheerful tunes, and food stalls prepared delicacies that echoed the flavors of old Liyue.

Meanwhile, Aether was in charge of organizing the lantern launch sequence—because of course he was. "It's not a magic ritual," he said, tinkering with a synchronization app, "but it still needs perfect timing."

The couple, despite their busy schedules, found quiet moments to sneak away—whether to test out spicy tofu dumplings, watch children play with paper kites, or sit by the river recalling their own first Festival as adventurers.

On the evening of the celebration, the town gathered in the open plaza. Lumine, Amber, Xiangling, and others had arrived days earlier to help, and now stood among the crowd, their hearts alight with nostalgia.

Hu Tao took the stage, dressed in a blend of traditional red robes and modern flare. "This isn't just a festival," she said, her voice both playful and tender. "This is a reminder. That no matter how much the world changes, the light within us doesn't fade. We carry those we've lost, those we've loved, and those we still walk with—right here." She placed a hand over her heart.

Aether joined her, taking her hand. "Tonight, we don't look back in sorrow. We look up—with gratitude. For what was. For what is. And for what will be."

With a collective cheer, the townspeople released their lanterns into the sky. Though no wind spirits carried them, they floated slowly and steadily—powered by tech, guided by code, but glowing with human hope.

The night air shimmered with soft lights and quiet tears. Old friends reunited, children danced with glowing ribbons, and laughter rose like music. It was a festival reborn—not bound by magic, but lifted by memory and love.

Under the lantern-lit sky, Hu Tao and Aether stood at the heart of it all, holding each other close. Their story, like the world around them, had changed. But in that moment, they were reminded that light—no matter its source—always finds a way to rise.
