Chapter 23 Death Equality Cult
"Death… is equal…"
Sure enough, as Li Lin expected, after the man bent over, coughed, and vomited for a while, his brain seemed to produce some hallucinations.
The blood-stained toilet seemed to have become some grand performance venue; this man, whose face was already twisted beyond recognition, gasped and coughed, giving a speech to his non-existent believers. Only the splashing water from the side and the blood flowing from his body accentuated the fervent atmosphere around him.
And this crazed and desperate atmosphere also increasingly made the man before them look extremely dangerous. Li Lin could even feel Ch'en in his arms moving restlessly. He didn't think Ch'en would be afraid of this kind of man, just purely uncomfortable with those crazy ideas. And what was to be said next, also due to anticipated reasons, caused some uneasy agitation. At least, Li Lin thought so.
Estimating Ch'en's thoughts by putting himself in her shoes , Li Lin sighed inwardly at the preciousness of peace, soothing Ch'en while attentively listening to the man's voice.
"There are too many, too many inequalities in this world… Really too many… How many inequalities have we walked through…"
His hoarse throat sprayed blood as he spoke incoherently:
"Columbia has been destroyed… Our once glorious homeland is ruined… Umbrella Corporation and Raythean Corporation are using our homeland for experiments, hundreds of thousands of our compatriots have died… And the international community hasn't even uttered a word of restraint, but let all this happen…"
"Why?"
"We ran around appealing… But who listened to our cries? They only think we are monsters who should have died long ago!"
A refugee from Columbia?
Listening to the man's hoarse shouts, Li Lin frowned, judging the origin of this person.
After Columbia disintegrated with the civil war, the original lenient Oripathy policy also vanished. What remained was nothing more than capturing Oripathy patients for some raw materials, or simply expelling them from the country. And such figures were often seen in wars. Although he often heard of their existence, truly witnessing it still made Li Lin feel somewhat uncomfortable.
"This is because this is what they need… They don't need an equal world… Don't need a world where we can live peacefully and harmoniously…"
The man faced the empty wall, staggering and waving his arms, shouting:
"We Oripathy patients are born unequal… We and them are unequal… From birth… From contracting the disease… All this is unequal… And even more unequal… is the relationship between nations… Victoria watched us be destroyed with open eyes, and Yan Country also remained silent; they just want to see us die!"
"So join us, join Death Equality! Only by dragging this world into death and rebirth can we welcome a world of all equality!!! Only thus can we escape from this pitiful world!!"
The man's voice became increasingly high-pitched and fervent, spraying blood while screaming hoarsely; even his spirit became more and more elated.
"And our greatest enemy is Lungmen! That city symbolizing inequality, we must destroy it!!! The demon who created the Lazarus File, the root of all that, must also die!!! Eden, who aided the tyrant, and their pitiful creations, will also be destroyed!!!"
Isn't this the standard performance about to happen?
Watching the man whose tone was becoming increasingly high-pitched and impassioned, Li Lin felt this scene before him seemed somewhat familiar.
Intuition kept telling him a classic scene was about to unfold. And sure enough, as expected, a few seconds later, the man suddenly tore open the clothes on his chest, and a strange sigil gleamed in their eyes.
"Destroy the White Tower! Destroy Lungmen! Destroy Umbrella and Raythean! For our equal death!!!"
The man shouted with a fanatical expression, a bizarre light suddenly appearing from within his body.
Sure enough. Nothing new.
Watching the man who seemed about to explode, Li Lin sighed inwardly.
However, Li Lin had long anticipated this kind of problem. He directly put his arm around the stiff-faced Ch'en and walked towards the corridor behind them. Accompanied by a muffled 'thump', the overly sturdy fortress structure trembled slightly as a whole, and a smear of blood blasted open the toilet door, exploding onto the opposite wall in Li Lin's eyes along with the airwave.
Accompanied by slowly falling fragments of wooden planks, a sound of shattering glass spread from near to far, inside and outside the building. Wisps of faint red smoke continuously curled out the window due to air circulation. The tragic bloodstains and the wall, pierced by countless bone fragments, had fully proven that it was absolutely impossible for this man to have survived that explosion even slightly. This strange attacker thus wasted his life in vain, and also conveniently revealed information.
But that cult he mentioned, was it the cult Rhodes Island warned me about before?
Looking at the blood-stained scene, Li Lin, already trained, lowered his head and fell into deep thought. And what interrupted his contemplation was the warmth in his hand, and Ch'en's slightly soft voice.
"…So, can you take your hand away now?"
"Ah, sorry sorry. Was just thinking about this man's affairs, really sorry."
Li Lin quickly let go, apologizing profusely to the subtly-faced Ch'en.
"It's okay, I can understand. After all, it was an emergency ; if I had rushed over recklessly, I probably wouldn't have gotten this intelligence."
Unobtrusively stepping out of Li Lin's embrace, Ch'en looked at the gory scene, sighed softly, rubbed her slightly reddened ears, and said in a low voice.
"I'll go inform my colleagues in the building about the Oripathy patient explosion inside, you wait for me outside for a bit. This kind of thing will definitely be registered; if there are no problems, I'll treat you to a meal tonight, thank you for your help with work. If not for you, I might have been injured."
"No need, let me treat you. Anyway, the tens of thousands I got from that rich woman haven't been spent yet."
"Mm, alright then."
"Then I'll wait outside. If there's any news, just call me directly in the hall."
Ch'en nodded and quickly turned to leave. Li Lin thought for a moment, then returned along the original path to the hall outside, preparing to wait for Ch'en's news. But perhaps due to the terrain, he always saw Ch'en, with a calm face, seemingly taking a wrong turn, then walking back from the original passage.
Building designs are really complex nowadays.
Looking at the TV hanging in the hall playing news related to Columbia, Li Lin couldn't help but think.
