Chapter 116: Mewtwo Strikes Back is Tired, Let Him Rest

Mewtwo's gaze fell on the claws of the Dark WarGreymon. A rare flash of caution crossed his face. He had just suffered a major setback because of those claws—his proud psychic barrier hadn't been able to block them.

In the face of the karmic weapon "I Think You're a Dragon," which was a dragon-type killer, conventional defenses were largely ineffective.

"Good thing I had anticipated this outcome."

Mewtwo ascended into the air once more. Blue light radiated from him again, but this time it wasn't for an attack.

"First, let's make the stage a bit bigger."

He crossed his arms above his head and swung them down forcefully.

With the sound of machinery activating, the castle slowly split in half, revealing a starry night sky with a full moon.

Then, a part of the castle deep within opened slowly, and several objects flew toward Mewtwo at high speed.

With distinctive mechanical sounds, the items latched onto Mewtwo's legs, arms, chest, and even face.

It was mechanical armor, brimming with technological energy.

Armored Mewtwo!

"This is the armor I specially prepared for myself," said Mewtwo, now clad in the suit.

If Sakaki were here to see this, he would be shocked.

The armor was nearly identical to the one created by Team Rocket.

Of course it was—this was among the knowledge Mewtwo had "taken" during his time with Sakaki.

The only difference? The Team Rocket armor was designed to restrain Mewtwo's powers while protecting him. But this one—

"It greatly enhances my power while still protecting my body."

Armored Mewtwo looked at his empowered hands confidently and said, "This is my specially prepared backup plan—Plan B."

At the mention of Plan B, Dark WarGreymon instinctively glanced toward his partner.

The tone was exactly the same.

"Is there a Plan C?"

Dark WarGreymon suddenly asked.

"?"

Armored Mewtwo was confused by the question but still shook his head. "Plan B is sufficient."

Hearing that, Dark WarGreymon seemed relieved.

"Good."

Having spent time with Yamcha, who always seemed to have a new trump card, Dark WarGreymon had become wary.

After a moment of eye contact, the two opponents launched into action.

Vast psychic energy enveloped the armor, forming a massive blue sphere.

Dark WarGreymon raised both arms above his head, spinning rapidly and creating a dark whirlwind.

The second round of the battle began!

And ended instantly!

Because the armor shattered the moment they clashed.

The combination of the dragon-type vortex and the anti-dragon weapon was far too much for simple armor to withstand.

Though the armor did amplify Mewtwo's powers, the boost wasn't enough—less effective than Yamcha's methods even.

Most critically, the armor was made of ordinary steel. Even empowered by psychic energy, its essence couldn't be changed.

In contrast, Dark WarGreymon's armor was made of high-purity Digizoid alloy, and his claws were forged from the legendary Chrono Digizoid—the strongest known metal.

Mewtwo was defeated—by gear, by insufficient preparation.

"I lost."

Mewtwo staggered to his feet. This time, he didn't try to regenerate.

The vast power gap made it clear—he couldn't win, even with healing.

"Can you tell me your name?"

"Dark WarGreymon."

Mewtwo slowly closed his eyes, as if ready for the end.

"History is written by the victors… So…"

"Kill me."

What a shame… I really wish I could have seen you one last time—my first and only companion.

Dark WarGreymon: "?"

He had enjoyed the battle, but had no intention of killing Mewtwo. And besides—

"That's enough, partner."

That familiar voice made Mewtwo suddenly open his eyes wide.

"You… You're…"

He turned to the source of the voice.

He could never forget that voice.

It was him!

His voice trembled with emotion.

Was this… a dream?

"Partner, have you found your purpose now?"

Yamcha threw off his cloak and extended his right hand to Mewtwo.

"Maybe… I have."

Mewtwo unhesitatingly reached out his hand.

Their hands clasped tightly.

Mewtwo then looked toward Mew, who was floating not far behind Yamcha.

"Nice to meet you, my mother—Mew."

Mew: ?

"Did you come here out of concern for me?"

Mew: ?

"I understand—you're here to stop me from making a terrible mistake."

Mew: ?

"Thank you, but you don't have to worry anymore. I think I've found my answer."

Mew: ?!

Yamcha quietly observed the completely disconnected conversation between the two and had to hold back his laughter.

At that moment, noise erupted outside, interrupting them. Led by Ash, the trainers and Pokémon had escaped their predicament. United and determined, they all shared one goal:

To stop Mewtwo!

But…

It seemed everything was already over.

"I'm here to pick you up. I need your help."

"Partner, let's end this farce."

Mewtwo nodded.

Truth be told, his "strike back" was more about venting.

Now that he had seen Yamcha and released his frustrations, it was time to end it.

In nearly every Pokémon movie, Mewtwo was always on a path of rebellion or vengeance. He was tired. It was time to let him rest.

"Maybe forgetting is the best option."

Mewtwo raised his right hand once more.

Snap!

A finger snap echoed.

In an instant, all the Pokémon and trainers floated in the air.

"Go back—to where you started. Forget everything that happened here."

A flash of white light engulfed them, and the trainers and Pokémon lost all memory of the events.

When they came to, they were back at the harbor—including those who had failed to cross the stormy sea—all safe and sound.

But none of them remembered New Island.

They didn't even know why they were at the harbor.

Back on New Island, after bidding farewell to a very confused Mew, Yamcha packed everything useful into a capsule and prepared to leave.

"Did you record it?"

Yamcha whispered to Dark WarGreymon.

"Yeah."

Dark WarGreymon nodded.

"What are you two talking about?"

Mewtwo noticed the two whispering.

"Nothing."

"Feels like it's something shady."

"You're overthinking it."

"Let's get going, partner."

"Welcome… to my world."
