Rein's pov
I was seated in the car. I could not help but glance at him as we made our way back to the mansion. He felt far more pitiful than I was. I had been abandoned since I was small, and I never knew who my parents were—so I never really felt the need to miss them. But he... Jake had spent his childhood with them. He had tasted the warmth of parental love and then lost it. I could understand what he was going through, at least a little.
"Do not look at me with pity," he said suddenly, turning to face me. "If you truly feel anything at all, then help me get my revenge."
His eyes were locked onto mine. I could see the fire—raw revenge and deep hatred burning in them.
I turned my head away, a little guilty. I could not even help myself escape—so how could I possibly help him?
"How?" I asked quietly. "I am not strong. I cannot even escape on my own, so how do you expect me to help you?"
