A Day Before the Mission...Point of View: Gine
Today had been one of those work days. A major mission was approaching, and the Saiyan warriors, like my husband, needed a huge amount of supplies to take with them. Since so many warriors were going, it was better to use one massive ship instead of dozens of individual pods, which made life incredibly difficult for me and my colleagues. We had to prepare enough food for several days.
'Ugh, my arms are killing me from all that meat cutting.' I sighed with exhaustion. When I looked up, I realized I was already quite close to home, which was a huge relief. I couldn't wait to grab a nap.
As I reached my house, I heard two voices, which was strange. Bardock and I didn't usually have visitors, and Raditz had already been sent off to conquer his first planet a few days ago.
"Bardock, I need to call in that favor you two owe me. Where's Gine?"
"She hasn't arrived yet; you know how large-scale mission preparations wear her out."
Stepping inside, I saw Vanie talking with Bardock. "Hey, what are you two talking about me for?" I said with a smile. "Good to see you, Vanie, it's been a while."
She simply waved back at me with a slight smile on her face, then said, "I need to call in that favor, Gine. Can you bring Leekon food during the days I'm on my mission?" she asked, her expression returning to its usual serious look. "Of course, no problem. His lunch and dinner are on me." I accepted without a moment's hesitation. She had been incredibly kind to us back when I was pregnant with Raditz, covering for my husband on some missions or even saving his life once. So there was no way I could refuse such a simple request as feeding her son—the last thing her husband left behind…
"I'll trust this to you, Gine, and just one more thing: keep an eye on him so he doesn't do anything stupid and get himself killed," she said with a serious face. "Of course, of course, what could possibly go wrong with me here?" I replied with complete confidence. Come on, he's just a kid, what big trouble could he get into?
After Leekon's Battle against the Saibamen (20 minutes later)
"Damn, how am I going to explain this to her?" My eyes widened at the scene before me.
Pluck!
The bag full of food I was carrying dropped to the ground, and I flew over to Leekon.
The boy was sprawled on the ground with five shredded Saibaman bodies scattered around him, and it hadn't even been an hour since his mother left for her mission. How did this happen so fast?!
I could see his chest rising and falling as I approached, so he was still alive, thank goodness. Otherwise, I'd be the next corpse.
Then, I tried to hold him as comfortably as possible so as not to worsen his injuries. 'I have to get him to the infirmary,' and that's exactly what I did. I flew as fast as I could, being careful not to hurt the boy.
Point of View: Leekon
I opened my eyes slowly. I was back in the same place I'd woken up after my first fight with the Saibaman. Man, I hope I don't end up here every time I fight, but oh well, I'm getting stronger anyway. I could already feel myself six times stronger than before the fight. Damn, it was totally worth it.
Checking my body, it was apparently completely healed. My leg and arm didn't hurt anymore. These things here were marvelous for a race that gets stronger after coming to the brink of death, like Saiyans. And now I had a few more scars, besides the claw mark my first Saibaman left on my torso and shoulder.
And yes, I could have easily died against those Saibamen. A Saibaman's combat power varies from 1000 to 1200. I wasn't much stronger than them, and there were five of them. That was a real workout. Now, unfortunately, there's not much more those cursed goblins can do to hurt me. They might be ugly, but they were great training partners.
I had to suppress my ki; I didn't want the King to notice my growth. If he classified me as a threat to him or his son, I was screwed. So, I tried to prevent a significant amount of my energy from leaking out. Ki is hot, potent, and emanates from your entire body, and I simply tried to suppress it, not eliminate it—like leaving a faucet slightly open, letting only a little water trickle out.
After a few seconds, I suppressed my ki to something very close to what it was before, around 1700 or 1800. Then, to get the attention of someone who could get me out of this recovery pod, I tapped on the glass a few times.
Thuck thuck thuck.
And then I managed to catch the attention not of a doctor, but of a familiar-looking Saiyan woman. She had really messy hair, but it didn't go past her neck, unlike my mother who had a fighter's build. This woman had a slenderer body. I'd never seen her before, but I felt like I knew her. She had been sleeping before I knocked, and I hadn't even noticed her there. Was she waiting for me?
"LEEKON, YOU'RE AWAKE! HOLD ON, I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!" I heard her yell, but the healing water in my ears slightly muffled her voice, and then she scurried off, quickly looking for something.
When she saw I was awake, she just... ran off? What a strange woman, and apparently she knows me.
But she quickly returned, now with the doctor who checked my vital signs and if my injuries had healed correctly, all via a screen next to the healing capsule. Meanwhile, the Saiyan woman kept staring at me as if I were an anomaly, but she said nothing, waiting for the doctor to finish his work.
And man, if you googled "exhaustion" or "sadness," this guy's picture would be the first result: a chubby man about 150 cm tall, with purple skin and dark circles under his eyes darker than charcoal, stubble framed his round face, and he walked with a perpetual hunch.
"Alright, Mr. Leekon, you're in perfect condition. You can exit the capsule now." He said in a monotone voice, sounding completely bored. He clearly didn't want to be here, so he pressed a few buttons that released me. Then he added, "If you feel any discomfort, let me know; I'll do my best."
I nodded in response, not that he truly cared.
After saying that, he left the room while looking at something important on a tablet, or at least pretending to. I could swear he was playing some alien version of Candy Crush.
"So, who are you?" I asked the Saiyan woman who was still staring at me, lost in her own world.
She seemed to snap awake after my question. She broke into a wide smile, put one arm on her hip while extending the other towards me, her outstretched hand forming a peace sign with her fingers. "Hi, I'm Gine."
