Chapter 27 - Ch 27 - Time to Look ahead

After winning the battle with the two he had deemed as walls he needed to surpass, Kai had completely forgotten about the weakest variable.

The other scavenger of their team, who was stuck in the effects of the spell till the very end, struggling all the time in hopes of somehow retaining his consciousness.

However, at the end of the day, all of his struggles were in vain.

He too, had fallen for the charms of spell and had his consciousness devoured. And Kai could only come to know that once the silhouette of his shadow came into his sight.

To begin with, Kai wasn't in any better shape either. Since the time that the mysterious voice had helped him, his body hadn't miraculously been healed.

Rather, the process was slowed while his sense of pain had been partially numbed.

Once the mysterious glow left his body— his eyes, all the toll that had accumulated over his body due to sudden movements and brash attacks came down like a turbulent waterfall, putting him at the mercy of fate.

Kai was in an even more helpless state than before, moving even in the slightest caused pain that felt as though his whole body was getting crushed under thousands of tons of weight. Even his own vision was flickering dramatically, threatening to die out any second.

Sharp, guttural sounds of panting eerily echoed in the vicinity alongside the soft thuds of someone approaching Kai from behind.

'What a timing you have,' Kai mustered up all his strength and pushed himself to turn around and fall to the ground with his right arm. As he turned around, he captured the vague sight of the silhouette that was coming towards him.

"Xavier." He muttered in a low, cracked voice.

In front of him, he saw Xavier walking towards him with his head tilted to his right— almost hanging. In his right hand, was the spear that he had been holding onto since the beginning while his other hand hung empty.

His eyes were the same as Damon's and Daniel's—blank, lifeless—but unlike others, not a single beastly growl could be heard coming from him.

With irrational steps, he proceeded to close his distance from Kai. In a matter of seconds, his steps came to a halt as he finally stood right before the battered state of Kai.

Xavier's head swayed forward as he stopped abruptly. His pink irises glared at Kai as an eerie silence took over the air.

He raised his right hand—with spear pointing towards Kai—in the air without uttering even a single word, his face void of any emotions.

"Oi Xavier," Kai said in a wavering voice as a clear expression of pain took over his face, the corners of his lips twitched as they curled into a grin.

"I appreciate your efforts, but I must inform you with a heavy heart..." He continued as he let out a faint chuckle, his face twitching as he endured every bit of pain pulsing through his body.

"You're a bit late."

Kai glanced over to his right side, where a small rectangular-shaped translucent screen hovered mid-air with a bright cerulean glow.

As Kai noticed that the time he had been waiting for all along had finally arrived, a devious smirk crawled onto his face as he clenched his raised hand into a fist—with the back of his hand pointed towards Xavier.

*Ding!*

A soft yet just as sharp of an alert sound rang in his head as a new System window materialized in the place of the old one.

Kai's body began to shimmer in a faint white glow as he stretched his middle finger out—pointing it toward Xavier's face.

"I survived, motherfucker!"

As Xavier sensed a mysterious energy enveloping itself around Kai, he couldn't hold himself back and launched the spear—aiming for his head.

His hand extended forward alongside the spear and gradually closed its distance with Kai.

Kai had his eyes set on the spearhead, looking at what could've been his potential death if he hadn't been lucky with the timing.

However just as the spearhead was about to harm Kai, the white glow instantaneously spiked—enveloping everything around Kai in an eye-blinding flash of light.

Within the split of a second, the light subsided and Kai disappeared without leaving even a single trace behind—letting the spear hit the ground instead.

Meanwhile, in the depths of Kai's mind, the Giant crimson eyes stood tall with its elongated irises pointed toward the small broken box of his consciousness.

"Hmm..." Its voice reverberated in the entire space like a soft, yet turbulent shockwave.

"So the Seventh Calamity has descended..." It said as the iris of the eye shifted upwards.

For several moments, silence reigned over the entire realm as the image of the eye began to get distorted.

"But it's not the time yet, for me to come out."

"Kai Evernox, I will be waiting for the day you grow strong enough to face the 'Truth'."

As he said so, the ginormous eye that once looked as though it traced the infinity, began to dissipate in all directions in the form of different energies.

Before even a few moments could pass, the eye had truly disappeared as though it never existed in the first place.

"Until then, I shall re-Seal myself."

Almost like an ultimatum from the god himself, his voice rang in the void-like space as it stimulated the entirety of Kai's consciousness.

Within an instant, the walls that isolated Kai's mind from the infinite space began to rumble as the cracked parts started to repair themselves.

In a matter of mere seconds, everything went back to the way it was before the second trial even began, and the silence once again, announced its reign over the realm.
