The [Vasily Grand Canyon] generally ran east to west, with a total length of 250 kilometers.
The top of the canyon ranged from 3 to 10 kilometers in width, narrowing downwards into a V-shape. The northern bank was higher than the southern, and the maximum valley depth exceeded 1500 meters.
The bottom of the valley was less than 1000 meters wide, narrowing to only 100 meters at its tightest point. The Monte River flowed through the valley floor.
"Boom, boom~~"
Amidst the "boom, boom" sound of the waterfall, Yilumi and Jin Bradrey plummeted down from the 1000-meter-deep canyon. Yilumi enveloped his body with qi to avoid being smashed into paste upon hitting the water.
"It's chasing us down!"
Jin Bradrey suddenly screamed at the top of his lungs. Yilumi, falling through the air, heard his shout and with difficulty, looked up.
"What!?"
Yilumi's expression changed slightly. That gigantic Nile crocodile had also charged off the top of the canyon and was falling straight towards their position.
Initially, the gigantic Nile crocodile struggled in mid-air, but upon spotting Yilumi and Jin Bradrey below, it surprisingly recovered quickly, paddling its short legs.
Although this was futile, it still plummeted rapidly towards the two below.
"Bradrey!"
Yilumi roared. His somewhat youthful yet steady voice was swallowed by the "boom, boom" of the waterfall, but Jin Bradrey understood his meaning and nodded slightly.
"Clap."
They grasped each other's left and right hands, quickly adjusting their body postures, pressing the soles of their feet together. Exerting force from their waists, they simultaneously released their hands.
"Bang!"
In an instant, a very faint shockwave erupted from the soles of their feet, and their bodies shot out towards the left and right sides respectively.
"Swish!"
The moment they separated, the gigantic Nile crocodile's body fell through the middle, "thudding" against and shattering a protruding rock, continuing its plunge towards the river pool at the bottom of the canyon.
"BOOM!"
The gigantic Nile crocodile crashed into the river pool at the canyon bottom, sending up a huge splash over ten meters high.
"Splash…"
However, Yilumi and Jin Bradrey, still in mid-air, clearly saw several colossal shadows moving beneath the surface of the river pool, which was hundreds of meters wide.
The instant the gigantic Nile crocodile hit the water, they swarmed it.
A moment later, a large amount of bright red blood welled up from beneath the misty white surface, dyeing the river water a vivid crimson.
"Bang! Bang!"
Yilumi and Jin Bradrey hit the water simultaneously.
"So painful, it hurts like hell!"
Despite the protection of his qi, Yilumi was still contorted in pain from the terrifying impact, feeling as if his whole body had fallen apart.
"Quick, swim to the shore!"
But this was no time to cry out in pain. Yilumi shouted, swimming rapidly through the water. The movements of the two of them kicked up a large amount of spray on the water's surface, like a motorboat speeding past.
He swore, this was the fastest he had ever swum in his past and present lives. An Olympic swimming champion would have been left so far behind by him at this moment they wouldn't even see the splashes.
"Huff… huff…"
Yilumi finally reached the riverbank at the bottom of the valley. He crawled a few steps onto a higher rocky bank, then collapsed, exhausted, panting heavily.
"Finally safe."
"CRASH!"
As if to mock him, the moment his words fell, a giant green fish with a mouth full of sharp teeth shot out of the river, "thudding" against the rock beneath him, nearly biting him.
"Damn it!"¹
Yilumi leaped up from the ground in fright. The giant fish was still thrashing its tail wildly on the bank, trying to propel itself onto the rocky shore to swallow Yilumi whole.
"Zing~"
A flash of a blade, and Jin Bradrey, Tang Dao in hand, arrived beside the green giant fish and slashed down.
With a "pfft," a red line appeared down the middle of the green giant fish's belly. Its head and body were separated, yet its tail continued to thrash, blood flowing along the riverbank into the water.
"Splash…"
Before Yilumi's heart could calm, another strange fish with red fins shot out from beneath the water's surface, bit onto the green giant fish's tail, and dragged it into the river.
Only half of the green giant fish remained on the bank, its large mouth opening and closing.
Yilumi's face twitched. To prevent another sneak attack from the monsters in the water, he leaped up from the rock with a "swish" and jumped to the edge of a small grove further away.
Jin Bradrey, meanwhile, raised his arm to wipe the fish blood from his face. He grabbed the sharp teeth in the giant green fish's mouth with his right hand and slowly dragged it towards Yilumi, leaving a bloody trench on the riverbank.
The bottom of the Vasily Grand Canyon was very wide, nearly a thousand meters across. The river pool occupied only a small part of it.
Because the Monte River had cascaded down from above for years, the immense volume of water had carved a deep channel at the bottom of the valley. The river water flowed along this channel towards the distant end of the valley.
On both sides of the riverbank, lush green groves thrived, full of life.
"Today, this will be our food."
Jin Bradrey placed half of the giant fish in front of Yilumi, sheathed his Tang Dao, and walked towards the small grove.
"I'll go gather some usable firewood. You rest for a bit."
Yilumi took a deep breath, his emotions calming. He sat on the ground, opened his backpack, and checked its contents.
His clothes were all wet, but that wasn't important. What mattered was that the flint and steel were still usable, and the compass, map, multi-tool knife, fire starter, salt, and seasonings were all still functional.
"Rustle, rustle…"
After a good while, Yilumi had cleared a large open space. Jin Bradrey placed a pile of firewood in the middle of the clearing and set up a barbecue rack.
"Pfft…"
Jin Bradrey used the Tang Dao to cut open the fish's belly and clean out its innards. The reason he didn't clean it by the river was because the riverside was too dangerous.
Yilumi, meanwhile, used the flint and steel to start a fire. After a moment, the pile of firewood began to burn with a "crackle-pop." Yilumi set up a makeshift clothes rack by the fire and hung his soaked clothes on it.
"Tonight, we can only spend the night here."
Yilumi looked up at the sky at the top of the canyon. The light was gradually dimming; it would be impossible to get back up today.
Soon, the sky turned completely dark. Yilumi and Jin Bradrey sat on the riverbank at the bottom of the canyon. The hazy moonlight spilled into the river pool, also creating a spectacular sight.
"Sizzle… crackle…"
The fish meat was placed on the barbecue rack, sizzling and crackling as it was roasted by the blazing fire.
"This is disgusting."
Yilumi gnawed on the grilled fish meat on a stick, a bitter expression on his face.
Neither Yilumi nor Jin Bradrey knew how to grill fish; neither had done it in their past or present lives. They could only judge by feel whether it was cooked through and edible.
Even with some seasoning added, the taste was still atrocious.
"Splash…"
Ripples occasionally disturbed the surface of the river, indicating giant fish moving beneath the water.
Yilumi observed that in this deep valley river, the number and variety of these giant fish were plentiful, and the competition was quite fierce. In just one afternoon, there had been multiple instances of them killing and eating each other.
But considering their different species, it wasn't exactly cannibalism.
