==========
President Shimizu was almost delirious as he signed the student council agreement.
The club members were emotional, chanting the president's name and saying things like "Remember our bonds!"—whatever that meant.
It was no use.
After signing, President Shimizu let out a long sigh:
"Come to think of it, I'm not young anymore. My best days are behind me.
Whatever, it's all fleeting. Cards, duels, whatever—none of it matters anymore."
The members looked grief-stricken.
They could tell: this duel not only lost them the room, it broke their president's spirit.
They all turned to the culprit, a wave of sadness rising in their hearts.
They knew they were wrong to occupy the clubroom, but using someone like this against them? The student council was ruthless.
Sure, they met up to read some questionable stuff sometimes, but it wasn't worth this...
"..."
"It's done?"
Student council member Sato adjusted his glasses, surprised to see Kira return so quickly.
"Yep," Kira said simply. "Their club is nice, everyone is friendly, easy to talk to. We just had a little duel, I explained things, and they quickly agreed with me.
Look, the president signed."
Sato checked—sure enough, President Shimizu had signed.
He was stunned. He'd met these guys before, and Shimizu was never reasonable, always going on about burning love and bonds, never listening.
He thought even winning a duel might not be enough, maybe they'd try to cheat.
He didn't expect this legendary newcomer to settle it so fast. Could his dueling be as devastating as rumored?
But then, Student Council President Seika shook her head.
"You wouldn't understand unless you've dueled him yourself."
Like a survivor speaking from experience.
Sato: "..."
"Anyway, thank you, Kira," Seika said with a smile. "Here's your extra credit—and you can pick one card at random from these ten, as a newbie bonus."
The Duel Club had a similar perk, but Kira remembered he didn't see anything he wanted then.
He glanced at Seika's list—nothing spectacular, but one card piqued his interest.
[AD Changer, Level 1, ATK 100
Effect: Banish this card from your graveyard to change the battle position of any monster on the field.]
Not particularly strong, but useful and rare. Good for specific combos, and with his current luck, definitely worth considering.
Having found a card and claimed his reward, Kira left the student council satisfied. In the office, Seika crossed her arms and showed a hint of a scheming smile.
Though she'd been wary of Kira at first, thanks to Sato, she now felt having such a powerhouse in the student council wasn't a bad thing.
After all, this is Duel Academy. Many things—many student management issues—require dueling.
Next time there's trouble, students breaking rules or refusing to cooperate, the council can say:
"You have a few days to comply. Otherwise, we'll have to send in our ace to supervise."
Most students would get the message.
The more Seika thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. She couldn't help but smile, imagining troublemakers being forced into duels.
...
"Nice one Mr. Runner-up."
Kira praised Misawa as he received a newly made card.
He was holding "Mezuki," a Zombie monster.
Many real-life duelists would recognize this card—a top-tier Zombie staple, still useful today.
But in the original manga, Mezuki's effect was "at the start of your next turn after it's sent to the grave, banish it to Special Summon a 'Yokai' from the grave."
Yokai was a manga-only type, but Kira found that "Yokai" was effectively a branch of Zombies; all of Misawa's manga Yokai cards became Zombies in the real game.
With Kira's guidance, Misawa upgraded Mezuki from manga to a real card—now it could banish itself to revive any Zombie from the grave, at any time.
A huge improvement.
Kira's praise was genuine. While he gave direction, Misawa's quick work showed he had great talent—maybe he should've been a researcher, not just a duelist.
"No, you're even stronger," Misawa replied seriously. "I've had Mezuki for so long and never thought of improving it."
"Just lucky, I guess."
"I doubt it's just luck."
Alexis appeared at the lab door, smiling.
"I never expected to find hidden potential in Cyber Angels. But the more I research, the more I see you're right. We're close to a breakthrough."
Misawa studied Kira.
"Not just a strong duelist, but this talented at card design too? Honestly, I find it hard to believe you only started this semester."
Kira shrugged. He was telling the truth, but if they didn't believe him, so be it.
"Oh, by the way, I got us some sponsorship recently," Kira added. "Kaiba Corporation's foundation will be funding us."
Misawa: "!"
Alexis: "!"
Just like that, he got sponsorship from KAIBA CORP!?
Both exchanged glances—they sensed gossip.
Could the rumors about "the man Kaiba Seto has his eye on" be true...?
